I've used Barney's Ranch for over 4 years - they are a great team. They are efficient and know your dogs names. They make each visit personable. I really appreciate them. I take my three girls here and because they are small they are able to sleep in the same sleeping area when boarded, as well as play in the same size play area. I really love that you can also follow along with your babies on the camera when they are out in the play-area. They always come back beyond exhausted from all the mingling they get to partake in. If I could give negative stars i would. When I say this is the absolute worst place to leave your babies I mean THE WORST. I read many reviews and didn't see any red flags when i checked him in, the workers seemed like they cared. It took all of two weeks to turn my happy, healthy baby into a sick, hurt, scared, anxious little pup. During the duration of his stay I checked in on the Webcam, and called multiple times to check in. They claimed everything was fine. I EVEN TOLD THEM TO CALL ME IF PROBLEMS ARISE, however when I picked him up they stated he got into a fight with other dog(s). Made it seem like it was a small altercation and no big deal, and yet I picked up a dog that was COVERED in dried blood from his ear, (where he was bit) neck, and body! When questioned about it they stated something along the lines of "dogs will be dogs and if a dog doesnt like another dog they cant control their actions and there's nothing we can do about it." Which, honestly I've had dogs my whole life I completely understand that dogs fight. They informed me the only way they could've prevented this was to completely isolate my dog. My issue is why wasn't I notified about it? If I had known he could've been isolated I would've allowed that! I mean I even could've tried to make arrangements for him to be picked up early if i had known how bad it was. They claim it recently happened, but its funny to me because mysteriously enough they told me the exact same thing about his cough. Which after taking him home and cleaning up his wounds (which I honestly have no idea why they couldn't have AT LEAST done that!) I noticed his ear was starting to scab already! So I could only imagine how long he's been sick for! They claim its just "kennel cough and there is no need to take him to the vet", but when I did my research it could be any number of things and it IS best to take him in to get checked since it could be life threatening. Do not be fooled by the good reviews and the employees charm, everything changed once it was time to pick my baby up. It was excuse after excuse. read more

Our dogs, Bear and Lilly have been staying at Barney's Ranch for the past 5 years every time we go on a road trip, vacation etc that we can't bring them. We have been very happy with this place. The owner and the workers are very nice and know their name as soon as we walk in. My dogs are very active so they love the unlimited outdoor play with other dogs. My favorite part is the webcam so when I'm missing my dogs I can just go on their website and see them playing. There is always a person out there supervising/cleaning/petting the dogs. Boarded here a couple years ago. First time we boarded was fine and the dogs were super happy. The second time was awful our Pomsky was shaking, crying, and smelled really bad when we picked him up and was acting super weird. Also in the cameras the guy would shove him off his lap really hard and was just super rough with him which is scary because he is a small dog. Why work at a dog daycare if you get annoyed easily with dogs? If that's what they do on camera I don't want to know what they do to dogs when there is no camera. I adopted a dog a few months ago and started taking him to Barneys Ranch soon after. My little one had a lot of anxiety from being at a new home but he adjusted to the Ranch right away. He is so much more alert and excited when I pick him up. His interaction with the wonderful staff and other dogs has has helped immensely. Matt and Bree are such wonderful and caring people. Not too many business owners equal to what they are. The rest of the staff is always very friendly to the dogs and customers. My dog even made besties with one of the workers there. They take care of your dog for you with loving care !! My whippet is always worn out after a full day there. I think they secretly put him to work when no one's looking.. . I could of sworn one time on the web cam I thought I saw my dog in the back corner with a construction vest and hard hat on. I was never able to verify this but whatever fun they have there I know he has a very good time. Lol. Do not leave your dog here. I had to have my dog stay here for a week while I was away on a work trip. I had scheduled him to have a nail trim while I was gone, but when I picked him up they said "they didn't get around to it because I had picked him up so early in the day." He was there for an entire week so why wasn't this done ahead of time. That wasn't even the worst part. They told me that he had begun coughing the morning I came to pick him up. I am extremely skeptical of this because he was wheezing when I went to get and once he got home he was coughing up mucus and was extremely lethargic. Due to the severity of his sickness, he did not begin feeling well just morning I picked him up, it had definitely been at least a few days before I was notified. I understand that dogs get sick even when they are vaccinated, however to lie about it and not let me know about it is a completely different story. I spent another $250 at the vet even though they told me his cough could be treated with just some medication. I don't recommend this place to anyone! read more

Not pleased. I used them a long time ago and things were great. Not so much any more. We left our dog for 5 days and when we got him back he was skiddish, lost 4 pounds and had kennel cough. I asked the lady how he had been and she said she didn't know. He was obviously not well for days and no one bothered to let us know. They didn't know if he had eaten or anything. We really wanted to like Barney's Ranch as it is so close to our house, but unfortunately our Pierre always came home with some type of injury. We have boarded him 3 times and the first time, he came home with a sore under one of his paws. It healed quickly and my husband and I brushed it off. The second time we noticed when we got home that Pierre had a slight limp and was trying not to put any weight on that leg. By the next day he was walking normally so we didn't end up calling Barneys. However, this last time my husband picked him up he had a huge gash on the top of his head. I called immediately and was told they would ask all the staff about Pierre's wound and someone would be giving me a call back shortly. I made this call at 10:00 am and did not receive a call back until 5:30 pm. I was instructed to email pictures of Pierre's wound so they could investigate more. It has now been 2 days and I have still not heard back. Fellow dog owners, you know that our pups are like our children, and I find it unacceptable that the dogs are not being monitored in the play yard. That's what we are paying for! I understand that accidents might happen, but something like this should have been noted and we should have been informed immediately. Instead, it obviously doesn't seem like a big deal to them as I still haven't heard from them. I would think twice if I were you about leaving your dog at a place that doesn't even watch them. We have been using Barney's Ranch since 2012. We recently went on a week trip and dropped off our two Cocker Spaniel. What makes us go back to them time after time is their yard camera! We love seeing our pups play while we're apart. We always see someone in the yard with the dogs, either constantly cleaning or petting the dogs. We have dropped off our dogs with a skin rash and they treated the area with our provided meds, that when we picked them up it was healed! They also cleaned their irritated ears. I would give a zero star to this racist establishment if that were an option. My husband and I have been loyal customers at Barney's Ranch for the last couple years with our three dogs. Until yesterday, we've been very happy with their services and rate (Brie's always been great). Unfortunately we lost all respect this morning. I went to pick up the dogs after a 10-day trip overseas yesterday. The owner's husband (the bald gentleman with a German accent)--upon seeing me at the door--decided to ignore me and not open the door (it was closed because it was X-mas). When I called several times, he finally came to the door and snapped, saying that it was closed. I returned this morning to pick up the dogs, and explained that I thought the way he acted yesterday was a bit disrespectful. Then all hell broke loose, he went on a tirade against Americans and how demanding Americans are. Unsatisfied, he then went on an attack against Chinese (we are Koreans). He then left the office in his car without returning the dogs to us. We will never be returning to this establishment. I understand that there often can be misunderstandings between people, and that everyone can overreact to a bad day or a situation. However, it crosses the line when you are no longer willing to engage in a respectful conversation, and instead turn to racist and xenophobic attacks (first against the US then against China). read more

I have been a faithful customer for the last two years. Our use of Barney's Ranch stopped abruptly due to an outburst of one of the owners against my wife (i.e., Matt?; the other owner Bree has always been nice and our puppies loved her). I wanted to take this opportunity to share my own prior experiences at Barney's Ranch. - Upon one of my prior visits, one of the windows was broken. When asked what had happened, we were told that there had been an "employee" incident. Such instances are conducive to creating a non-safe environment for both the people and the pets boarded at Barneys' Ranch. - Barney's Ranch's FAQPolicies.docx document, as posted on their website, states that we can come by for a tour (touring hours of Mo - Sa 12pm 'til 5pm). On our first visit, when we asked if we could get a tour, they said no without any explanation. That leads to certain loss of faith in the establishment. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would, but at least my dog is starting to do better, so 1 star will do... We decided to board my Aussie Shepherd for about 1 week while getting married out of state. Dog went in in good condition, happy as usual and with a healthy appetite. Over the course of the week, it seemed like every time I checked in on the webcam my dog was getting chased or mounted by other dogs, never saw anyone stop this behavior (by the way, there was only 1 webcam which was able to see my dog. The ad makes it sound like you can see your dog in the kennel, but all you get is a view of the run, and an interior view of some wall inside the building). After picking him up, I realized what a mistake it was to board him there. He smelled so bad and his feet were soaked in urine. He was limping and had an open sore on the top of his front paw, but when we picked him up, they said "there was nothing to report, he did great". If they would have paid attention, or cared about the individual dog, they would have noticed the pronounced limp and wound. He also had obvious emotional issues for several days (maybe a week or two); he was timid and not happy go lucky as he used to be. He also refused to eat for several days after picking him up. It took about a week of slow progress to get him to eat alone in 1 spot (at his bowl) without taking a mouthful of food to the corner of the room to hide and only eat a couple bites. My biggest complaint is that he picked up some illness/virus/bacteria there, because he has had diarrhea for 30+ days since picking him up. He didn't have any intestinal issues prior to dropping him off. Vet has yet to find a cause/solution. Please. Do yourself, and most importantly your dog, a favor and don't board your dog here for any extended period of time. read more

If the response of the owner below is representative of this establishment, I now understand why the quality of Barney's Ranch has decreased since our previous boarding visits. First of all, she has stated that the comments of my reviews are false when many facts in her response are false as well: 1. Yes, I have several negative reviews but I also have MANY positive ones. If I had written a review for Barney's after my first few boarding visits, I actually would have given them 5 stars but sorry I didn't get the chance to do so before writing this 1 star review that I truly feel they deserve. This is a forum for ratings on businesses and no, not all of them are great or deserving of more than a couple stars. 2. No, I did not feel like I was rude when making the reservation. I told the front desk clerk that I had recalled that we previously boarded our dogs for $38, not $45 a night and asked the reason for the difference. They stated that it was their "long term boarding rate" but I mentioned I had never boarded them for more than 3-4 nights. They kindly responded saying they would accommodate the $38/nt price. 3. No, I did not call in several times to check in on my dogs. I called once when I happened to view the webcam and saw that a larger dog was jumping on my dog and yes, I was abrupt because I felt that they were not doing a good job of restraining the dog from jumping on my 5 pound dog multiple times. I never said anything about them "going to daycare and play" - my point is if these dogs are larger and shy, they should not be jumping on my dog constantly when my dog is trying to RUN AWAY FROM the other dog. That is NOT playing. If in fact, the dog is 15 pounds, that means he/she was 3 TIMES the size of my 5 pound yorkie. I'm 120 pounds, I would NOT want someone 360 pounds jumping on me. And no, Barneys DID NOT provide daily progress reports or health check ups. 4. Lastly, I know Barney's is lying outright because actually, I was NOT the one to pick up the dogs. My husband picked up our 2 dogs while I was still in California. So there's NO WAY I could have argued about not receiving a discount nor could I have refused to pay the bill. And no, he was never told not to return to this facility (although this will NOT be a problem). I'm really sorry that Barney's feels the need to lie in order to justify their actions. I felt that the review I wrote was a fair assessment of my last visit with Barney's. I don't think they need to LIE about me as a customer to validate themselves because if they were true to who they are as a business, they should recognize that maybe their service this past time was maybe an anomaly and that they should be more aware for the safety and comfort of the pets they take care of. At the end of the day, our pets are our babies. I can't tell you I would have written any different of a review if it was my own child. read more

My first experience at this place wasn't so bad, so i decided to give it another shot. The 2nd time was horrible for me. My dog is a little shy but she does well with strangers. When I had dropped her off, the groomer had pulled her leashed when she clearly did not want to go and kept on doing it (usually she goes with other groomers willingly) and the fact that Shes less than 10 lbs he could have picked her up. Once I picked her up SHE looked the same GOING IN. The groomer reeked of cigarettes and mexican food, he should have washed up before holding my "clean" pup. "Grooming" was 45 dollars for a little maltese that LOOKED THE SAME. Never going back. Once you enter the place, you will be waiting to get service. We are having a mold crisis in our house, so with the kitchen being gutted and some massive remodeling pending, we needed to figure out somewhere for our dogs to go during the day. Thankfully, I found the great reviews for Barney's Ranch. The staff here are so friendly and kind. Before bringing our dogs, we stopped by for a tour and could immediately tell that the employees were kind and caring people. They keep their facility spotless. Like, I could use some tips and tricks from them because they somehow manage to keep it cleaner with a ton of dogs than my house is with just two. A huge bonus is the webcams they have hooked up so you can keep an eye on your dog throughout the day. We are weirdos who nanny cam our dogs as it is, so it's awesome to be able to see them while they are at daycare. The best part is our puppies come home happy and tuckered out from playing all day. We started this out of necessity, but I think we are going to try to look into budgeting a couple of visits a week for our dogs even after the kitchen crisis of 2013 subsides. read more

What a breath of fresh air on so many levels! The owners started this business out of a passion for pets but are turning this business into your pet's passion. Being new to the area and having a dog with some anxiety issues (some is an understatement - she chatters her teeth if left alone for even a minute like one of those wind up toys from the 70's) it was a quest to find the just right kennel for our six year old Westie. We found many in the area that were not even close to acceptable. Mat and Bree, the husband and wife team who are running this growing facility are focused on providing a calm, clean, safe and healthy environment that your pet deserves. They use medical grade sanitizers daily, recirculate and clean the kennel air with fresh air repeatedly and wash all bedding each day. You can drop in for a tour anytime they are open and you will be able to see and smell the freshness of a correctly cared for kennel yourself. There are two outdoor play areas where they separate the larger dogs from the smaller dogs. This is a must in my book - too many things happen with mixed sizes of dogs in a play group - separation is good. There is a zen room right up front by Bree if a pet needs a rest or special love and attention during their stay. Barney's does offer discounts on bulk purchases for day campers and for frequent overnight guests - pet parents who travel.....this is a good thing! Some other news of note - the kennel is enhancing as rapidly as I can visit. They are adding new misting canopies to the outdoor play areas before this summer (which are monitored by a live person at all times) and these play areas have baby pools for those who wish to jump in or not in our dog's case. There are also web cams to view your pet while you are away at work or traveling. This always helps me. These are also just about to finish a major overhaul and upgrade launch in the coming weeks with additional cameras and streaming video from their website- so stay tuned on that one. Holistic focused - yes. Caring pet business owners - very much so; they have even adopted a few rescues themselves and treat each pet as if they were one of their own. I've used BR twice now for boarding. The first time was a three night weekend stay, and the second time was a weeklong vacation. Both times I have been very pleased with the service and my dog comes home worn out and happy. The staff is always pleasant and you can tell they care about their campers, and the facilities are clean and seem well-kept. While their published rates are on the high end of what I am willing to pay for boarding--I have taken advantage of their coupon on Yelp and a Groupon they ran recently. With the discounts it has been quite a bargain. The location is good, especially if you live in the Carrollton area. I am closer to downtown Dallas, but the location right off 35 is easy to get to and I am willing to drive for a good deal on boarding. This has no impact on my decision to board there, but the webcams are not the best. If you're hoping to keep a constant eye on Rover while you're away, you will spend most of your time staring at a blank screen--maybe catch a passing tail here and there. Overall, A+ and I will utilize them in the future for boarding and possibly day care. read more

I'm a big fan after our first boarding experience. Some background: Josie is a sensitive, skittish, 50 lbs rescued mutt who is terrified of new places and loud noises. I'm a helicopter mom and have had a bad experience with boarding her in the past. Mathias, the owner, is extremely professional and responsive. I had some special requests. ie. had Josie picked up by a Pet Taxi service on check out day and also emailed him 2 days in a row to get an update. Barney's Ranch immediately responded to my emails. The cameras are a plus although Josie stayed out of camera's view. I requested a tour on our first day of daycare to do some reconnaissance before boarding her for 3 days and was impressed by how clean the facility is and the dogs were all excited, happy and yappy. There always seems to be several guys working outside handling the dogs. I've been to other locations that smelled strongly of urine or feces. Not so here. Very spotless and tidy. Mathias is also planning improvements to his place. Just a tip... This is hard to spot when you exit the hwy. It's right before the Shell gas station. We'll be coming back here again. read more

I have tried a handful of the doggie day cares in North Dallas and I would rate Barney's as my favorite. Their location off the I-35 access road can be a little confusing the first time but easy to get to. Bree and Matt are the two that have always been there when I drop off my dog and they are great, you can tell they love dogs and you get a great feeling leaving your pup there. My dog comes home tired and happy. She will get in the car and pass out because she played all day. They have a small and large dog play area, and inside runs as well. They do not use cages or kennels but instead open and spacious ranch style pens. I like that and if I ever need boarding this is where my dog will go. The big advantage in my book they have over competition down the street is their use of webcams. The webcam for the large dog play area lets you see all the dogs play and run around. I can't afford for my dog to go daily, but at least once or twice a week keeps her fit and happy, and lets me not feel so bad leaving her at home when we are at work all day. read more

My daughter & I boarded our 4 Yorkies here and could not have been more pleased :) I really enjoyed that could watch them play on the webcam and check on them anytime. Upon our return, all 4 of our babies were clean and did not smell like they had been kenneled for a week. After returning home, we receive an email that they had accidently overcharged us by $51 and would refund our credit card, which they did do.
