For our anniversary weekend in Napa, Barnett Vineyards absolutely delivered. We came on a high recommendation from a friend in the wine industry, and it did not disappoint. The wines share a similar, robust profile to Pride Mountain Vineyards--which we love--likely due to that signature Spring Mountain terroir. The entire experience was elevated by the stunning views. I hadn't realized the tasting was outdoors, but they were perfectly prepared with blankets and heat lamps for cooler weather. Luckily, we had a flawless sunny day. Giving 5 stars as our host was incredible. Garrett was incredible, 5 stars was hard to give buttttt only because we didn't see the rattlesnakes on rattlesnake hill (only because they were hibernating which I guess is out of his control :() Don't fret rattlesnake hill is only for members and not a requirement of this vineyard. All in all a very amazing estate and incredible wines. There is a cave and a very laid back relaxed environment, overlooking a phenomenal valley!!!! Highly recommend! read more

We finally made our way back to Barnett!!! It really is on my top 3 wineries in Napa! First off the views are everything here! The service and wine is top tier . The Sauvignon Blanc is my favorite here and try to stock up before it sells out. It's best to enjoy on a during a hot summer day. The Rattlesnake is the best cab here but is currently out of stock! I recommend this to anyone that comes to visit Napa! I promise you won't be disappointed! The thing I love about Barnett is the privacy , there are only 3 tastings per day and is as if you get the whole winery to yourself! The cave over looking Napa is incredible I can really be out there all day! The new patio that was just built was Amazing!!! The views were spectacular ! I would recommend wearing sunscreen ! For the diehard wine fans, this is a must place to stop. Expect to drive up a dirt road hill for about ten minutes until you approach a gated entrance. Use the intercom and they will buzz you in. Once you drive and park enter the barn where they store their wine, and have it for sale. You know when you go somewhere and your experience is so good that you actually can't wait to write a Yelp review about it? That's Barnett. My friends and I recently spent a couple of days in Napa, and this was the group's favorite winery (we visited seven total) based on both venue and tasting. The staff is incredibly friendly -- Ryan greeted us and Kevin gave us the tour and tasting -- but in a way that was unique from every other winery we visited. It was really like catching up with old friends, versus polite chit-chat. The views from the top of Spring Mountain were GORGEOUS, and we got to have our full tasting outside (also unique to this winery, in our experience, which really shocked me considering how beautiful some of the wineries are -- such a shame to be inside!). The wine was great -- the hype about the Rattlesnake Cab is real. Definitely a must-visit, and I will be back. One tip: if you're not driving yourself up the mountain, get a private driver/ask your Uber to wait a couple of hours for you for a fee. Even if you have reception on the mountain, you will never get an Uber to crawl up there to grab you! read more

Very disappointing would be an understatement. Where do I start? We paid $150 tasting per person and so we were expecting a reasonably high-end experience. But no it was a pretty rock bottom visit, not even some breadsticks to cleanse the pallete. I blame myself for not doing my due diligence research first. The wine was good but they only served their regular wine i.e no reserve pours. And get this, the wine they are known for, called rattlesnake, which we made the visit specifically to experience, was not even being poured. So they could have at least adjusted their tasting a little bit. Run, run away from this greedy, shameful operation. read more

We had an amazing afternoon hosted by Kevin at Barnett. I literally couldn't wait to get home to write a review our experience was so stellar. I had heard excellent things about Barnett through word of mouth and I was looking forward to trying out a great Spring Mountain winery. We had an absolute blast tasting through their delicious and elegant wines while enjoying one of the most amazing views over the Napa Valley. The highlight however was Kevin. He was so funny, knowledgeable and most importantly, down-to-earth which can be hard to find at such a high-end boutique and family owned winery. I first discovered this wine while on a business trip to New Orleans (before Katrina), was having dinner at Delmonico's and when looking at the wine list (favoring new vs. old world), the sommelier turned my direction to a merlot from Barnett, after drinking all 3 bottles they had on stock (yes I shared), I vowed to track them down when I got back. That was 10+ years ago. Barnett was my introduction to Spring Mountain wines and once you drink from the mountain it's hard to come down and drink anything else (don't get me wrong there are spots on the valley floor that make good bug juice too). The property is amazing, small and family owned, the staff are generous with their time and knowledge (seek out Kevin) and the wines speak for themselves. Beside their merlot, try the Cabs (Rattlesnake is their top shelf and its worth splurging on a bottle or two), the whites are good too but I am a red guy. They have a couple of pinots you need to taste, look for the Tina Marie it's a great example of russian river wine. The chardonnay is traditional and the sauvignon blanc sometimes tastes like bubble gum. Drink Up! read more

Although our host was great, another worker at the winery was very rude, and this completely ruined my experience. I was anxious and upset the entire wine tasting and regretted booking this place. Went to another winery where the staff was more welcoming and professional, if you just want good wine then yes Barnett is a good pick, but if you're looking for a great overall experience, I would highly recommend visiting somewhere else. read more

We were staying at Mille Vigne nearby and wanted to stop at a winery before heading out of St. Helena. Our innkeeper called Barnett to see if we could stop in for a quick tasting with our dog. Fortunately, they were open and not quite busy yet on a Sunday, so we quickly went over. We were told that we could bring our dog over the phone, unfortunately, when we got there, the person at the tasting room said that the winery dogs don't get along with other dogs, so we couldn't have our pup with us. We did stay to taste, but didn't take full advantage of walking the grounds because we kept checking in on our dog. My husband doesn't drink reds anymore unfortunately, so it worked out for me to taste the reds while he was with the dog. The tasting itself was really nice. I believe I had 4 pours (1 white, 3 reds). We were able to taste overlooking the vineyards; it is a very picturesque spot in front of the wine cave. The person pouring for us was very nice and knowledgeable of the wines. She also took us through the wine cave and gave us some info when I asked if we could go in there. The wines were very good and we ended up getting the 2011 Sangiacomo Vineyard Chardonnay and the 2011 Tina Marie Vineyard Pinot Noir. The tasting fee was waived since we purchased 2 bottles.. I'd recommend Barnett to anyone looking for some really nice reds. read more

The view was great, but the experience was disappointing. We were really excited to come to Barnett as a highlight of our trip to Napa. We are both huge fans of Barnett Cabernet, and were really excited to drive up and try it! We have had their regular cab, but have both always wanted to try the Rattlesnake Cabernet. To be honest, that was the biggest thing we were looking forward to doing other than seeing the view. My girlfriend (now fiancé) had planned this tasting as an early birthday present to me, not knowing that I was planning to propose to her the day before on our trip. I only include this because I had reached out to the winery in advance to let them know we would be celebrating our engagement, and that we would love to try the rattlesnake if it was available (I understand that it is limited production and can run out - I kept my fingers crossed that they would have some!) When we arrived as the first group of the day, we were led to our tasting area - a cute area shaded by the old winery building. Our host was very nice and personable - when she asked what our tastes in wine were, we mentioned the rattlesnake and the cab franc (another wine on their list that is limited) she said she would see if we could taste them. After tasting through the other wines, she told us that there was no rattlesnake or cab franc available to try. We understood and enjoyed comparing the 2016 and 2021 cabs she had poured for us. They were both very good! After that, we went on a small tour of the facilities. This is when we were disappointed. We asked our host if she could get some pictures of us with the beautiful view, and she mentioned there was one overlook that was specifically the best for pictures. A larger group had arrived after us and was seated at some beautiful tables at this specific overlook outside of the cave entrance enjoying their tasting with another host. It felt awkward interrupting them to get pictures, but was not an issue for us until we realized that their host was pouring them Rattlesnake Cabernet out of a Coravin for their tasting. Their host was also more experienced and was able to talk to some of the wines (ports) that our host wasn't as informed of. (I'm not faulting our host on this, as she was newer and had mentioned the ports that were made were only done once or twice - a niche question for sure). Continuing the tour into the wine cave, she showed us an entire pallet of the Rattlesnake Cabernet that was being packed. Again, just frustrating that there are pallets of the wine and other groups were allowed to try it, but we were not even though we had mentioned it multiple times. The rest of the tour was nice, and we ended up taking a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc home. I want to stress that out host was nice and the wine was good, we just felt underwhelmed by the experience for the price that we paid. Honestly, we were extremely disappointed that we were not able to try the flagship Rattlesnake Cabernet when we had looked forward to and had asked in advance, especially when other groups were allowed to try it. Before our appointment, I was actually telling my fiancé how I was wanting to get a bottle to commemorate our engagement. I guess I could have asked again after seeing the other group get to try it and all of it in the cave, but the whole experience left a bad taste in our mouth since we had asked in advance and again with our host earlier. I did not want to keep asking for something that they did not seem to want to do. Especially since the other group clearly had the nicer tasting location with the prime view. Maybe they were members or something that affords a better experience. This was the most expensive tasting experience we did on our trip to Napa at $100/pp, and I have to say the views from Paloma right down the road on Spring Mountain were just as good for 1/3 the price. It's just unfortunate, because we were excited for Barnett to be the highlight of our trip since we knew we loved their cab and couldn't wait to try their other wines, but since they were unwilling to pour them for us I can't justify recommending spending the money to taste with them. We had just as nice of an experience at Pride Mountain and Paloma the day before with pride Mountain pouring their premium reserve wines and pairing cheese with it for half the price, and Paloma pouring 2013,14,15 vintages for 1/3 the price. We left feeling disappointed and wishing we would have just gotten a bottle of rattlesnake from Total Wine - we could have bought a bottle for the same price as we paid for our two tastings and actually gotten to try the one wine we were looking most forward to, especially on our engagement weekend. read more

My wife and I had a lovely experience at Barnett. We love good wine but hate the pretentiousness that can accommodate it. At Barnett, we had the best of both worlds, incredible wines and a delightful experience compliments of Kevin who hosted us. It is such a gorgeous property with stunning views. VIEWS, VIEWS, VIEWS!!!! I have visited quite a few wineries, but the tasting backdrop here was above all of the rest. My friends and I were able to look out to jaw dropping scenery while sipping their stunning wines. The wines all had a sense of place and were some of the most pure we tasted on our trip. This is probably one of my favorite wineries that I've ever been to. It's by appointment only, and they only allow for one group each hour (as far as I could tell). Unfortunately, we were half an hour late for our appointment, so we had to speed through our tasting. The winery doesn't have a tasting room, so all tastings are done on a patio overlooking the beautiful grounds of the winery. Tyson was our host that afternoon, and he was extraordinarily knowledgeable about all of Barnett's wines and the region generally. This is the way wine tastings were meant to be done. When we made our reservation, we also indicated that we wanted to have a picnic. There is a secluded picnic spot on the hilltop opposite the tasting area; the picnic area has two relatively large tables that seat up to eight people. It seems as though the picnic area could only accommodate 1-2 parties per day since the area is relatively secluded and on the small side. Tastings are $25 or free/included when you purchase three bottles of wine - definitely worth it! read more

Our experience at Barnett Vineyards was magnificent!! The views were breathtaking!! The landscaping was beautiful and the drive up the mountain to get there was also most picturesque. The wines were some of the best we had in our entire Napa/Sonoma trip. The Sauvignon Blanc was crisp and fresh, and the cabs were divine. The prices were very reasonable for the quality of the wines. We bought a magnum of Rattlesnake Cabernet Sauvignon and took pictures on Rattlesnake Hill. Ryan was a warm, knowledgeable, and very accommodating host. Fancy yourself sitting on a private deck overlooking an expansive valley of vineyards with a generous pour in your glass and feet propped up? Then this might be the place... small, intimate, stunning. Whether you're savoring their Sangiacomo Vineyard Chardonnay or daydreaming of what lfe is like as a talented young winemaker you will not soon forget this vineyard. My most recent visit left me wanting the Rattlesnake Cab (sold out) so I settled on David's alternate suggestion of the Cyrus Ryan instead as a gift for a friend. Having heard that Barnett Vineyards was a fairly exclusive winery, I was crossing my fingers for an afternoon opening when I called Saturday morning. The conversation went something like, "We can just barely squeeze you in with our last tasting at 3. Does that work? Okay I've got you down for 2 people at 3 today. Oh, and it'll be $40/person. See you then!" *click* *head still spinning* "Wait, what? Did she just say $40/person?!"... Because this gated vineyard requires reservations, to be granted access you have to accept the tasting fee. Don't let the price tag fool you: they only say that to attract serious wine-tasters to their vineyard. Once you're there, they don't charge anywhere near that fee - a fee that can be completely waived with purchase. And, my friend, you'll want to purchase. Of the 7 wines sampled, I declared 4 of them to be the best wines of the day. And yes, there were a lot of different wines that day. Their Sauvignon Blanc (not too tart), the Chardonnay (not too oaky, more French-style), the Cyrus Ryan Cabernet, and finally the best wine of the day (and their signature bottle), the Rattlesnake Cabernet. With so many amazing options, there's no doubt that this is the winery that you'll want to buy from. Barnett also offers some of the best views in Napa - the ideal place to end the day. Best of all, we were the last of the day so we were sent home with all of the opened tasting bottles. On that day, I was certainly seeing the glass, or I should say bottle, as half-full. read more

Wow, I cannot believe nobody has reviewed this winery yet. Their Rattlesnake Hill Cab is one of the Napa's best among critics, from what I know. Just like other wineries in Spring Mountain District, don't expect Barnett to offer a big, fancy visitor center like you find along Highway 29. Expect a casual and personal tasting done at a small counter in their barrel room. When we went, it was just us and the guy who seemed to manage the place. The scenery is beautiful, so it may be a good idea to bring some simple lunch and do picnic here. But, be aware, it is pretty chilly up there. Appointment is necessary, and the tasting fee was like $20 or $30. We were able to apply that fee towards a purchase of Rattlesnake, so it wasn't bad. read more

Our 4pm appointment was the best thing that ever happened to us. The road to Barnett is curvy and windy, but mysterious and isolated. My boyfriend had no clue where we were going and complained about the drive. He said, "Their wine had better be sex in a bottle... this drive is long!" Once we arrived through some dirt roads, we were greeted by Jackie and a couple of German Shepard dogs. A large tour bus was just leaving, so that was a good sign. I hate being cooped up with 20 other people! We walked into a barn type room where we were greeted by Kevin. He immediately started pouring the wine and gave us the lowdown about the winery. Since we were the last tour of the day, they decided to join us with our wine tasting and walked us through the property as if we were long lost friends catching up. Boy, I love great customer service! We walked through a small cave which opened up to a fantastic view of Napa Valley. We were at the top of the mountain and could see miles away, what a view. There, Jackie poured some more wine and took us up to Rattlesnake Hill where there is an outdoor patio and a wood fire oven. By then a few other people, presumably friends, walked up and joined us. They turned out to be from a neighboring winery and also the wine maker himself. OMG, how often do you get to hang out with the wine maker? We learned that Dave, the wine maker, graduated from school in BC, Canada and traveled around the world in pursuit of wine making. He also mastered the secret to making Ice Wine in Niagara Falls... This was the best experience of our trip in Napa. We loved how everything unfolded, the casual experience, scenery, mountains and fresh air. We loved their wine, the attitude *and* the personalities that sell this wine. The wine is REALLY good, too. I'm so happy to have enjoyed Barnett with such friendly people. Two thumbs up! This property is so perfectly picturesque and our hosts Nicole, originally from Indianapolis, and Kevin, from Chicago, were knowledgeable and incredibly hospitable. Barnett is an exquisite boutique winery located up scenic, winding roads on Spring Mountain and features one of the best cabs in all of the Napa Valley- Rattlesnake Cabernet. Back in August I started looking for places to propose to my girlfriend. Since the Napa area was very important in our relationship I knew I wanted to do it at a winery. I started looking for places where we could walk through the vines, maybe somewhere we could have a picnic, or somewhere with a really good view. I had made appointments at a couple different places so I could come check out the scenery and figure out if it was right. Nothing was really sticking out as unique. Some had things I was looking for but nothing really pulled it all together. Then I stumbled across the great reviews of Barnett. I thought I was a seasoned veteran to the area, but I hadn't even scratched the surface when it came to Spring Mountain Road. After I saw the pictures and read all the great reviews I knew I had to go check it out. I scheduled an appointment, and they didn't make me feel strange for making an appointment for one. The drive up itself is really gorgeous. So many really cool views and a lot of good looking places to stop (soon to come in the next review). When I pulled up and saw the view I had to just stop and stare. It is amazing. I came in and Kevin and Jackie were extremely and accommodating from the start. I told them my plan and they were very willing to help. Right then I knew this was the place. A few months later I scheduled an appointment to come up again ready to pop the question. We headed up to the deck with some of their excellent Rattlesnake Cab. The view spoke for itself and after a few well placed words she said yes. Afterwards we tasted more of their amazing wines and celebrated the occasion. Everyone there has such great energy and the wine is very good across a number of varietals. I keep going back and forth on weather I like the Rattlesnake Cab or the Pinot Noir better. I can't wait to continue to bring more of my friends and family up here. Hmmmm ... where to start... First time in Napa Valley, did a lot of research to find a couple of vineyard to visit. This be had alot of positive reviews so despite being $100 per person, double/triple the price for other vineyards, we booked a reservation. Boy we're we in for a surprise. The drive wasn't the best or safest drive. But when we approached their gated vineyard, we were expected to be blown away for beautiful scenery and experience. Sadly it was just the opposite of that. As we pulled up, what appeared was a pretty small place. The view was pretty nice as it was on top of the mountain. So, we disregarded the false impression on their website. The worst came after. Our host was so rude! Didn't catch his name, most likely he didn't tell us. The whole time he was not attentive what so ever. Going in and out of the room we were seated to pour a small amount of wine and walked away. He barely communicated with us. No history of the vineyard, wine, zip - nadda. We tried asking him question only being met with short answers. Almost like we were bothering him. Complained about some stuff happening there like why the dog was there. Something wasn't going right with either a coworker or something. The whole time he looked as though he was so bothered we were there to make him work. Very unprofessional. Of course we're on vacation so we're taking photos for memories, one of our party member was on her phone and he said, rudely "are you just going to be on your phone" which we didn't realize we couldn't do. Towards the end we decided to purchase a bottle, paying with cash. He couldn't figure out how to ring us or whatever, as it was not communicated so he just said "I got it, I guess." So let's make it clear that it was NOT intended to be "complementary". He poured the last bottle and walked away. While walking away he said something along the line of "well, guess that's it" but the music was blasted and he said it as he was already walking away. So who knows what he actually said. Pretty much this experience left us very uncomfortable and very dumbfounded by the professionalism of this business. I emailed them with no response. So I will be posting this review in all places. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS VINEYARD. SAVE YOUR MONEY. WORST EXPERIENCE IVE EVER HAD. read more

I like wine, as my life is surrounded by it. I live in Napa and it is refreshing to drink good wine in a relaxed and beautiful setting as Barnett. I am in the Industry so I suggest you call to make an appointment. Five Stars for the Tasting experience Five Plus Stars for the Wine Our last Spring Mountain AVA winery of the day -- and we had been blown away by two outstanding wineries (Pride & Sherwin Family) and Barnett did not disappoint, and arguably went toe-to-toe with the best of the best. As others have mentioned -- you must have an appointment -- you taste in the barrel room, and unfortunately, on our visit, it was raining, so we couldn't tour the vineyard or see out of the clouds beyond the driveway, so we joined their club so we have to go back! (Or at least that's what I'm arguing . . . ) Jackie was our wine host, and as a fellow Texans, we enjoyed visiting with her and hearing her story in the wine business. (Kind of makes me want to change careers and switch to the wine industry!) Anywho -- back to the wine . . .. Started with the 2009 Sauvignon Blanc Dry Creek vineyard -- great. 2007 Chardonnay Anderson Valley -- a bit oaky, but still bright and crisp. 2008 Pinot Noir Anderson Valley - Tina Marie Vineyard -- very nice. 2007 Merlot Spring Mtn - rich, red, nice tannins - 89% Merlot, 11% CS 2006 Cab - great ruby wine, tight tannins - 96% CA, 4% CF 2007 Cab Rattlesnake Hill -- OMG -- I don't think I've said that about a wine before, I usually tend to be a bit more erudite than "OMG", but OMG! We then happened to note that Barnett has a Rose Pinot, so Jackie opened it for us. A great dry rose for the summer. Thus, we bought 2 bottles of the Rattlesnake Cab and 4 of the Rose Pinot. Since we were the last tasting of the day, Jackie gave us the open Rose and Rattlesnake Cab, which we enjoyed over the next few days -- talk about lagniappe! read more

Coming to Barnett is an experience quite different from most wineries. At most places you sit in a tasting room or patio and try samples of various different wines. At Barnett, there is no tasting room. You have one tour guide, who over an hour will take you to various beautiful outdoor tables with sites of the vineyard, while giving you various different wines. They only take appoinments, and they keep each group very small. I was there with my mom, and one other couple made up our full group. The couple was hilarious, with the drunk guy (sure hope the wife was driving) telling us drunken stories of how he proposed, his fabulous life in Jersey, and then allowing us to take pictures of his (non existent) biceps for blackmail if I ever someday see him again. Pretty damn funny! The staff totals 8 at Barnett, and you can tell they each oversee every aspect of the vineyard with love and care. Our tour guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and personable. I liked all the wines, especially their famous Rattlesnake. Please note that the drive here is down a long, windy, narrow, and kind of scary road. Make sure not to drink too much at Barnett to avoid careening off the edge as you make your way home! read more

A testing experience that involved big, bold reds. Ask about their Rattlesnake Cab and the MMV. The view is spectacular and worth the drive up a curvy and narrow road to the top of mountain overlooking the Calistoga valley. read more
