After being an auto technician for 35 years or so, I retired a number of years ago. Trying to find a good garage that is completely honest with knowledge techs isn't always easy. I am happy to say that the nice folks at Gerber Collison in Brunswick recommended Bob and his staff at Barnes Auto, in Brunswick. Years ago I had an older car towed to Bob. It needed a new fuel pump. I wasn't going to drop the gas tank on a gravel driveway. Bob called me up prior to replacing the pump. He informed me that the PCM (power control module, the main computer) was bad. And since that part wasn't available he suggested scraping the car. A Saturn station wagon with approximately 295,000 miles had served me well. Lots of other places would have been happy to charge me hundreds of dollars to replace the fuel pump and then call me with the bad news. I recommend Bob and his staff at Barnes Auto to anyone looking for an honest shop where INTEGRITY is more important than a making a quick dollar. Thank you very much Bob, Tammy and the techs in back. I set up an 8:00 appointment to have a new tire installed, another tire fixed, tires rotated and a 4 wheel alignment. When I arrived, they got me in right away and went to work. I was truly expecting to be there well over 2 hours. To my pleasant surprise, I was there for just over an hour. The price was more than fair for all the work they did. I'm from out of town and my car wouldn't hold its coolant, wasn't exactly sure what the problem was. I brought it in and they had it ready the next day. When I called the lady was extremely nice. Brought the vehicle in with a check engine light picked up the vehicle with check engine light, ABS braking light and traction control light on. Told me the vehicle looked clean and they think the issue is a bad tank of gas... Point is you're better off bringing it to a mechanic who knows what he's working on. read more

Just left Barnes Auto and wow what an honest and professional owner and crew. We are traveling through Brunswick and my truck steering wheel went to the 10:30 position. It was driving me crazy. I tried another national chain tire store up the road however they tried their best to rip me off and pull a scam. Bob at Barnes was extremely honest and told me nothing was wrong with my truck other than the alignment was out. He also noticed that my tire pressure was extremely low. I had just check it before going to the national chain tire store. Bob Barnes is a true honest professional man with integrity. Would totally go back to this place. Very honest and friendly people. I am only in town temporarily and my truck was making a funny noise and I was concerned it was something seriously wrong with the suspension. The mechanic went through all the steps and figured out it was a simple loose bolt in the control arm. He refused to let me pay him for his time and said he would never charge someone just to tighten a bolt. I would refer anyone to go to this place! I recently purchased our retirement recreation vehicle and we took it out for a weekend excursion to make sure everything functioned properly. We endured the pain and excitement of a rear tire blow out returning from our shakedown cruise. The tire blow out caused significant damage to rear of our RV to include a crushed tailpipe and a string of wires dragging from the rear axle down the highway. I limped the vehicle into Barnes Tires and asked Mr. Barnes to replace all the tires with his recommendation. His team took good care of our needs and I was very satisfied. After I got the RV home and replaced the crushed tail pipe. I crawled under the RV to figure out how to repair the wires that had been damaged by the blowout. After much searching, I discovered the Barnes Tire Team had repaired/replaced my destroyed wiring harness. There was no mention of the repairs or any cost listed for this service on the bill. This was way above the norm of good customer service, you can't get better customer service than this. I have received exceptional customer service from Barnes Tires on a number of occasions. My daughter is a student at CCGA and her car broke down. She is 6 hours from home and we needed to get it taken care of in Brunswick. The staff was wonderful, came and picked up her car from the college and handled everything for us. They fixed her car within a few days and had her back on the road. I pulled into here because my van suddenly started pulling to one side. After a quick check I found out that one of my tires needed to be replaced. I didn't have the money to do that at the time so they swapped out the spare for me at no charge and said just bring it back when you can to get that tire replaced. This is not a fancy place, but I didn't care about that. I like being treated with respect and this is what I got. I will definitely go back. I appreciate the honesty and the not being overcharged or being charged for something I didn't need. read more

BEST SERVICE EVER!!!! I was in town on vacation, and picked up a nail in the tire of my volvo somewhere along the way. I called these guys and brought it in after the low tire pressure light came on twice in 24hrs. They got my car in immediately, patched the tire, and had me out of there extremely quickly! The staff is wonderful! I'm on a camping trip and going off road had completely torn up my skid plate. It was literally dragging on the road under my car. When I came into Barnes they were extremely busy and I was told the wait could be a few hours. But they managed to look at and fix my car in under an hour, and then didn't charge me for the time, since they only had to remove the plate. Great service and wonderful people! Great shop with great people! I had a very small puncture in one tire causing a slow leak. A different shop told me I would have to replace the tire (which only had 10k miles on it). A Plus very quickly checked the tire and did a patch without any issues. In fact they charged half the price of the other shop I had check the tire. I had a really great experience here! My car was long overdue for some TLC and I came here 2x during the summer to replace tires/battery/freon. Kester was great, pointing out potential trouble spots and being really upfront about cost to manage expectations. Cost was affordable, and when he pulled up a quote for my battery, he mentioned that he thought it was a bit high and searched for the same product at another supplier and got me a better rate. He also told me that it wasn't absolutely necessary that I replace my tires, that I could probably wait a couple more months if I wanted; I decided to go ahead and change them anyway, but I really appreciated that Kester was honest and didn't exaggerate the problem to pressure me into buying new tires. I never felt like the guys here were taking advantage of my lack of general knowledge about cars. Everything was transparent. They were all really nice and fit me into their busy Saturday schedule.
