Barnes and Noble is a fun place to browse current trends in reading. Too bad they are closing earlier.

I love any place that lets you sit there, drink coffee and read their books without having to pay for them. You never get kicked out. You never get asked if you are ready to purchase whatever you are reading. Shoot you can go back day after day and just use their books like a library! I suggest you get there early though to get a comforitable seat! I also love how the children's section has reading circle and the train table. I enjoy this B&N solely for its cafe. Lots of space and plenty of desks to use for reading/studying. The atmosphere is nice and the staff is decent as well. The selection of books is decent, though nothing extraordinary. Parking is great, there is always room and spacious spaces. read more

The " Kids Club " at Barnes and Noble is great !! and Free, I just added it to my husbands membership.But you can join for free on line. They have an area for the kids to read, play & relax. They do activities for the kids that are fun and family oriented. My grandsons love Friday nights PJs story time. We all go in our PJs. My review is going to center on the staff. Sunday morning I was having an issue with my Nook. James to the rescue! I'm telling you this man is the Nook wizard. Within a matter of minutes my Nook was performing like a champ and I learned another thing my Nook does that I didn't realize. Yay James! Then, while browsing, I meet Rebecca. Holy moly! This girl knows her store! Not only did she help me pick out new books for my teenage son (good job Rebecca! He's reading them!) she also introduced me to some new authors I wasn't familiar with. Turns out she reads the same stuff I do. The Trolley Square Barnes and Noble is absolutely the best - kudos to the staff - they make this store not only good, but great! read more

I have been to so many Barnes and Nobles and this one is by far the best. They have the best costumer service. Their staff loves their jobs and it shows. It is the best Organized store I've been too. Everything is spread out but not to the point where it's confusing. Their children's area is amazing. Wish I was a kid again. Love seeing all the kids reading. Nice sale associate, huge selection of books and other hobbies, also a cafe with seating to read your new books. It is about to rain for the next few days I decided to get a book. My guy friend had told me of the novel "Catch-22" so I decided that I would ask an assiociate where I could find it. I saw a lady putting away books out of a box so I just nicely asked if she could tell me where to find "Catch-22" and that I could find it, she wouldn't have to show me. She was extremely friendly and jumped up and told me the it would be under Heller in the literature fiction section. Even though I mentioned she didn't have to show me, she walked me over and pulled the book out and handed it to me. The assiciate was really kind in making my day so simple. Went here with my son yesterday to get a couple of books. They had a great selection of children's books and the bet part was they had a train set for him to play with while I browsed through the books for him. I did not look around the rest of the store but for kids books , it was great . Overall a really clean store , nice and quiet, with a good selection. I like to actually be able to pick up and see the books versus buying online . read more

Great place to get your reading fix without having to drive all the way to El Cajon. It's a good store and has a decent (it's Starbucks) cafe. They could use a bit more variety in their titles cuz I swear I've seen a few of the exact same copies of books in there since the place opened. read more

One of my favorite Barnes and Nobles! The staff is friendly and knowledgable and my daughter always finds somthing she wants in the Children's Section. I am a huge fan of there In-Store Pick Up service as well. This location in particular does a great job helping you out big or small. :) read more

The employees are very helpful. There have been several times I've gone to buy a book and they don't have it in stock. Then I have to order it and wait a week for it to come in. I don't like that. Where I came from in Colorado, the Barnes and Noble there has computor kiosk available for the customers to use so we can look up our own books, instead of waiting for staff to be available. That would be a nice addition to this store. read more

I thought the customer service was very very poor. I sat at the customer service desk waiting for help for almost 15 minutes while a lady that walked by us 2 different times didn't even acknowledge we were there until I asked her if someone could help us she then told us she was busy and we would have to wait. Then the cashier was a rude old lady that needs to retire because the way she spoke to me was horrible. read more

I always come to this Barnes and noble location because it is close to home, but after today I will continue coming here after I move. I needed a book about sea lions for a report and Amanda (I think was her name) was amazing! She went above and beyond to try and help me find exactly what I was looking for and even thought outside the box. Unfortunately the computers were down and the store didn't have the book, but regardless, she was an amazing worker and I hope she's working next time I visit!! read more

A solid book store with a decent selection. The only downside is that its hard to justify the "higher than internet" prices. I tend to buy games and magazines here more than I buy books. The staff are always friendly and helpful. read more

First things first: yes, it's true, I am an Amazon gal. I order pretty much all of my books from the online megamart, because I like getting things delivered straight to my door. Particularly since I live in the middle of nowhere, where the only other place that will deliver things to my door is Pizza Hut. But I digress. B&N is great for when you want to actually browse a bookstore in person, a mood which does strike occasionally -- although, admittedly, I do tend to gravitate more towards used bookstores when the mood strikes. Although B&N doesn't always have the books I want, I do enjoy seeing what the latest bestsellers are, perusing their selection of blank notebooks and other bookish gifts, and - most importantly - browsing the magazine section. The magazine section is, essentially, why I visit any B&N. The selection at this location is quite good, though not quite as large as the selection at the Grossmont Center B&N. I've recently purchased the special David Bowie tribute issue of Rolling Stone from this location, as well as a cool papercrafts magazine from The Netherlands called Flow. They always have plenty of interesting magazines available, along with the usual suspects, so if you need to satisfy a periodical fix, this is as good a location as any to hit up. Also, shout-out for the cleanliness of this location's bathrooms! Public restrooms are always a bit of a toss-up, but to give credit where it's due, whomever is in charge of keeping this one clean and serviced is doing top-notch work. Thank you, on behalf of bookish ladies who love coffee and cleanliness. On my most recent trip to this bookstore, I was waiting in line at the checkout (the one cashier noted that everyone had gone on break, so a line-up was accumulating), and the woman in front of me turned around to comment on my shorts and t-shirt, asking "Aren't you cold?" To be fair, it's February, but it was a nice sunny day, and probably only 65 at the lowest, so I found the question funny. She proceeded to inform me that she comes to this location frequently, and nearly gave her husband a heart attack by telling him she had 6 books to purchase that day. Upon seeing his shocked face, she laughed and said she was just kidding; she only had 3. I parried by saying that I usually get most of my books from the library, but she was apparently quite the bookworm and said she enjoyed collecting paperbacks. Rock on, Paperback Lady! (And if you are ever looking to unload your collection, I highly recommend donating your used books to a Friends of the Library location, since you'll be helping them raise more money for local libraries, supporting literacy and a variety of free programs.) In closing, I have to wonder if Amazon is going to build a brick-and-mortar location in San Diego at some point? Thank you for your great customer service. I wanted a Christmas CD every place was sold out. I came here and ordered the CD . She informed me it would be here in five days. Three days later I received a phone call saying my CD was in . Picking up my CD was easy she had it out waiting for me. I'm so impressed with there customer service. I went to another book chain not going to mention the name but it took almost two months for a Christmas CD to come in. At this store it took three days. Thanks. read more

Nice Barnes and Noble that was well laid out and had plenty of toys to play with while waiting in line. The wait wasn't too bad and I only ran to purchase something from the magazine section which was fairly neat so I can't speak for the rest of the store. I did think it was super cute that they allowed the local high school kids to come in and do some on site gift wrapping to benefit their school. read more

I love to visit this Barnes and Noble and it is a great place to find unique gifts but I will not buy books here anymore. There have been a few occasions were I find the book I am looking for on their website for half the price as in the store but they don't price match their own stores' website. Definately not the employees fault, I'm sure it is a corporate thing but I would rather pay the same price at a privately owned bookstore (if only to help them stay in business) if I want/need a book right away... otherwise I order from online for the less inflated price. read more

On Sept 29, I ordered a book (Not a rare or hard to find book). I was told it would be in in 3 to 6 days. On Oct 6 I checked to see if it was in. I was told it would be in in a day or two. I called on the 11th and was told it would be there in a day. I called on the 13, still not there. They apparently can not tell if the warehouse has shipped, is going to ship or even if it knows it is suppose to ship anything. He asked if I would like to place the order again, I told him I would just get the book from someone else. Everybody was polite and friendly, but that doesn't mean much if nothing gets done. read more

Barnes and Nobles is an outstanding place to go and get away from the noisy city and sit down and read some books with a nice tea or coffee. Barnes and Nobles has a nice and cool atmosphere. They also have a new e-Reader out called the Nook. As soon as you walk into the first set of doors you see a couple of shelves with books that are new releases or the nice classics. As soon as you walk through the second door you see a nice Nook Kiosk. It always has a friendly person ready to help you with your Nook. It's great because they have classes and they have sample Nooks you can play with.The Nook products are really great for any reader and are very inexpensive. You also get to read any book for an hour for free when you use Barnes and Nobles free Wi-fi If you walk down the main hallway and you hit the customer service desk and go to your left you will be in the DVD and CD section. They have nice comfy chairs to let you listen to your music. And if you turn right you will be in the Romance and Cooking Books. If you have the little ones then the back of Barnes and Nobles is perfect. They have all the little kid classics and they have a little play area with trains. They also have books for kids up to 4th grade in there. They also have a nice Starbucks. You can get any relaxing drink you want. The walls are painted green and yellow to make it soothing. They also have soft classical music sometimes. Barnes and Nobles is a great place to go because the employees are helpful, everything is placed nice, and there is a place for anyone in there! read more

I really like this store and would have given five stars but this review is taking focused on my recent visit. None of the staff had the same answers to how the current promotion works. There were flyers printed to show the discounts through out the store but the staff doesn't seem to know they exist. I had to go from check out back to the customer service desk to grab the flyer and show the cashier, and she still acted like she's doing me a favor to acknowledge the discount when it clearly states the promotions on the flyers made available to everyone in the store. How the staff are oblivious of the promotions, I don't know. Holiday shopping is stressful as is, so the staff's lack of awareness certainly didn't help. The cashier didn't even say sorry for the inconvenience, she acted like I had inconvenienced her by taking longer to show her what she's oblivious to. I don't think she's very well trained in customer service, I don't want to name names or describe her as it will be too obvious who I'm referring to, and I don't want to cause her to get in trouble during the holidays, but I hope management can properly notify all employees and train them well in customer service, thank you. read more

I made the mistake of buying their stupid, overpriced membership but that's my own fault. I hate coming in here because of the employees. The tables are all full by the Starbucks so I take my books I wish to look at before purchasing, and I sit on the floor in a completely empty section, I sit against a column so I am not in anyone's way or blocking any products and this employee tells me they "don't allow floor seating". Why would I bother buying these overpriced books when the employees are too stuck up to even allow you to look at their products. I always find a quiet spot on the floor out of the way at other locations so I fail to see who I'm impeding or doing a disservice to aside from the entitled woman constantly circling this section of the store. Gooood job lady, really protecting the integrity of this establishment from hooligans such as I. Maybe you should establish more seating arrangements then? read more
