Better, Loudoun county can and has to do better. I get why they wanted a B&N here (it's nameplate in the fastest growing area in the county) but this is not the bookstore that should be here. Everything about it is wrong, the lighting, the prices, the layout, the (pathetic) coffee bar, the lack of comfortable seating. I could go on and on but you get the point. Skip this place, it's not the bookstore you're looking for or hoping it to be. (If you HAVE to have a book RIGHT NOW and can't wait for Amazon (say... you're staying in the area for a day or two) then yeah, you'll find what you want, otherwise don't bother). read more

Checked the location out after work one day, and I haven't been back since. Why? (1) The books are ridiculously overpriced. Also, some of the books were damaged. You can get books that are cheaper and in better shape on Amazon. (2) They may have cut this back now, but B&N had way too many sales floor associates. When I'd try to read the back of a book or skim through, I kept being interrupted with random questions. I found it hard to just relax and enjoy browsing the books. Then, one very young, quiet sales floor associate stood uncomfortably close to me and started adjusting bookbags. Awwwwkward. Yeah, so relaxing! (3) The cafe didn't feel very inviting. The food/drinks were overpriced as well. However, I wouldn't have minded the price if the cafe felt more cozy. I actually frequent another B&N location and end up wasting all kinds of money because I thoroughly enjoy my overall experience (cafe, books, customer service). I mean...I wouldn't say don't go to this location. Check it out because maybe you'll like this B&N. Just remember that you're in Northern VA and adjust your expectations accordingly. read more

Extremely rude Starbucks employee walked up to me and said you can't put your foot on the chair since you might have athletes foot and other people have to sit there. I was dressed up nicely out for date night with my husband and was sitting comfortably in one of the cafe chairs. And by the way, the cafe was supposed to be open, but it was closed, so this employee- instead of doing his job and selling coffee was walking around insulting customers. Very disappointed and will be sharing with my friends to not visit this establishment anymore. read more

Amazing store! With so many Barnes & Noble store closures, it's a treat to visit the ones that are still open! We visited this Barnes & Noble location when we visited the One Loudoun town center in Ashburn, VA. The customer service is awesome and we loved the selection of books that this place offers. As a bookworm, I was quite happy :) Located conveniently in One Loudoun, this B&N location is just around the corner from a large parking lot, so it's very convenient to visit, even if you don't want to visit any other stores at the town center. read more

An incredible bookstore restaurant. This Barnes and Noble is a flagship concept that combines a legit restaurant with their standard bookstore. Their burgers and grilled cheese sandwiches (with tomato soup) sell pretty well but their entrees are where this place makes it's culinary mark. The BNK Meatloaf is a special recipe with a pleasantly sweet filling and a nice slightly spicy overtone. Very sophisticated dish that wowed me. When I ordered it at $19 I thought it sounded a bit pricey but once I saw what I got I thought $19 was a pretty fair deal! "Mary's Herb Rubbed Chicken" for $19 was a similarly good experience. The chicken breasts were tender and deeply flavorful seasoned with very fresh herbs. The fried potato wedges were wonderfully crispy and the carrot-kale slaw was wonderfully refreshing and provided a nice texture contrast to the meat. Overall this was a really well balanced dish far exceeding my expectations for a bookstore. In addition to the great food there are several good beers and wine on tap. The people making the choices of what to serve here obviously know their stuff. read more

I want SO badly to give this place a higher rating but sadly I cannot. And it's not even the book side of the stores' fault! The book side of this place is amazing! Some people find it small but I think it's a​ perfect size. it's not overwhelming and yet you can get almost everything you need. My issue is with the Starbucks and restaurant​ staff here. I have never NOT had some sort of issue here with the staff and it's really frustrating because this is the perfect place to go and bring you laptop or read and the food is pretty great. The staff is rude and lazy and even today an employee raised his voice pretty loudly at his colleague and they had this fight in front of the entire cafe because he didnt want to be wrong about A WATER JUG. (btw props to this girl because she did not back down but tried really hard to contain the situation). I wish they put more effort into training the people here because its the most local bookstore and it really is nice, but if the staff is like this id rather drive further to get to a place I dont have to worry about the staff treating me like a nuisance​. read more

A real bookstore? I'm in! Glad to see B&N alive and well in Loudoun County. The store is bright and cheery with lots of help if you need it. Plenty of places to sit, and there's a built-in Starbucks and light food menu as well. If you remember the Reston store, this one is a bit smaller and maybe less cozy feeling. But there's plenty of inventory, and it's just so nice to be able to browse books on something other than Google Chrome. We'll be back. read more

I like to come here to do my homework or join my classes while enjoying a snack. I was actually surprised to not read any reviews about one of the staff members I've interacted with mostly there. There's a curly haired barista, who always seems to be irritated with any presence. I haven't had one polite interaction with him and have worked in customer service for over five years, so i go out of my way to say thank you and please, and treat others with respect. I thought that i was being too personal until bringing another friend who asked what his problem was without me saying anything and another girl i know, who visits there, has had similar interaction with him. I've only ever use this app to write one review when I found the finger nail in a Wendy's drink, but my countless interactions with this barista, feeling judged and unwanted have driven me to write this one. It's unfortunate that I dread seeing him every time I come in. a smile or you're welcome would go along way in making his guests feel more welcomed. i've never seen someone so displeased to be at work... read more

I hate coming here because the employees have nothing better to do than bother customers: Are you finding everything? Can I help you find anything? Is there something specific you're looking for today? How about leave your customers alone to browse in silence. Just make sure you're lurking nearby in case we need anything, but chances are we can browse just fine on our own. It would be prudent to offer two shopping baskets at the entrance: green for "Feel free to ask me if I need help" and red for "Stay the hell away from me." Obvs, I would be carrying red. read more

It's a nice place to read, study, or just enjoy a cup of joe. I gave it three stars because the Starbucks workers... they're EXTREMELY slow and don't call out your drink. I ordered a very berry hibiscus and my friend ordered a passion tea... i had to keep checking if it was out in the counter. it's took about a good 10 mins for the drinks to come out. It seemed as if they didn't care about the line that was forming... it was pretty ridiculous. 10 mins for teas... passion tea is already made and all he had to do was pour it over some ice. They have beer on tap, which I haven't tried and a "restaurant." Seems a little pricy. I ordered bbq chips? With blue cheese dip and it was eh. Not amazing. The dip and chips didn't pair well together. My friend asked for ranch and that tasted a little better. I wouldn't recommend this though. read more

Best place and customer service in the entire world! I I will never go to any other bookstore ever again! Highly highly recommend beautiful store and atmosphere and the workers are fantastic and easy to to talk too! They are very knowledgeable, helpful and kind to every single customer in the store no matter what gender race or ethnicity. I was very pleased with my experience and will tell all my friends and family to go here! Way to go Barnes and Noble!!!!! 10 stars in my book. With with COVID-19 going on they have their store set up safely and all the tables and booked a space 6 feet apart or more the outline and the way the store was set up very precisely and safely for its customers! I'm not usually one to write reviews but this place left me with a bad impression. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful store and there is so much selection but the service could be better. I stood in line while one cashier was checking a customer out and the other 3 were standing in a circle talking to each other, twiddling their thumbs, and not paying attention at all. The bar is really cool and a nice place to eat but the service I had here was terrible. The guy couldn't get my drink right and after waiting for 15 minutes, they brought out the WRONG sandwich. Save yourself the drive and money and find a better place where you actually get what you pay for. read more

What happened to the days when you could browse a bookstore with a date and walk around, talk about books and pick up a few on your way out? We were there for under twenty minutes and accosted by no fewer than five people, two of them twice! Customer service is one thing, but yeesh! Is it really necessary to follow around a middle aged couple like we're a pair of teenagers looking for trouble? This is why I'm going back to shopping online. Also, I feel for the staff, who apparently are just following the directives of management. My experience has been that young adults who like books and aren't particularly interested in being sales people, but who really like to talk about books, are the ones who are attracted to these jobs, and the ones most suited for them. For crying out loud, don't make these poor kids extrovert so hard. It's just painful for everyone involved. Gross. We won't be back to Barnes and Noble anywhere if this is what they're doing now. I was half afraid one of them was going to slip us a note informing us that they were all being held captive. It was nice to see so much diversity amongst the staff though. Keep that up. read more

Management is very rude and unaccommodating. We had to use the floor to put our drinks and food because they moved the original table that was there and would not allow us to put another stool nor table there for the 1.5 hours we were there. When I moved a table over there the manager marched over and took it back - stating it was a sample table. Service behind the counter was very pleasant. This is why they even get a star at all. Management is rude and unaccommodating - they get 0 stars. I prefer to give my $ to local businesses, however, I'll be taking my $ to Amazon this holiday season. Last year I spent over $3000 - $5000 at Barnes and Noble. We are advid readers and have spent this amount of $ each year for the past 24 years there. Not anymore - definitely not at this location. I finally found a folded chair beside the front counter and asked the employee if I could get permission to use it temporarily. That's all we needed. We just wanted to eat our food on a surface and not have to hold it in our laps. But here came the assistant manager again. Oops - can't use the chair- gotta move now because there is an event there but....there is no one at the event - I don't see an event - no sign for an event - she just did not want us sitting there. She was being spiteful. This is not the first time that I have found the management to be rude since this location has been opened - but this is definitely the last time I will ever have to experience it. read more

What a shame. I was rooting for Barnes and Noble. I hate to see Amazon take over the book business. But when i visited this branch after their opening, I remembered why online shopping is taking over. Rude staff. Dirty bathrooms. Stale pastries. Disorganized book shelves. But most bizzar observation was a highly coveted corner table that the moment "ethnic" people sat on it, the air conditioning duct above them opened full blast and drove them away. The interior has bright walmart lighting and flooring, emphasis of pricey food over books, a very meager magazine selection where you get bumped by people walking by to cafe, no CDs or DVDs, very very sparse book selection in odd categories. My wife went into Barnes & Nobles, to pick up a last minute gift for my brother (grateful dead picture book) and to pick up a paper crafting book for herself, for the record both books are very thick and heavy. When she went to the cashier (Christine F), based on the receipt, flat out ask my wife if she was hiding other books in inside these 2 books. She didn't believe that a bookstore would sell books that thick and was insistent that my wife had to be hiding other books inside the books. My wife told her numerous time that she can check to make sure, but Christine F said no it's okay. Then when asked if she wanted a bag, my wife said yes and Christine F, said that with heavy books she likes to carry them cradled in her arm and I guess we will see if it's easier with a bag or not. What does it matter how you like to carry heavy books, if you ask the customer if they want a bag, give them a bag, not a freaking story. Christine F needs to be severely retrained based on her attitude on how to deal with customers and what products are sold at Barnes & Nobles. read more

We are so happy to have a bookstore back in the 'hood! There a decent selection. Live the magazine rack! My son had fun in the children's section. I feel like I can let him wonder while I browse. The store is open and light filled so I can see him from just about everywhere. Today is the first day I tried the food in the Kitchen. I was skeptical but starving. I ordered the grilled cheese with tomato soup and salad. It took a while and a member of staff came out to apologize and offer me a pastry while I waited. We just finished snarfing it down. The grilled cheese was awesome and the soup perfect for dunking. I loved the salad and ate it all, this was not a garnish! Overall I'm impressed and will be back. As for that treat .. it was a salted caramel something.... fresh out of the overnight, crispy on the outside, melty on the issue, cookie perfection! Sadly, I was very disappointed: not cozy at all, a futuristic look that made me feel uncomfortable with a cold vibe, lack of comfy chair sitting areas, not as spacious as other BN stores, and just plain horrible customer service at the coffee bar (hint, go sit down you get waited on faster. Was in line for 20 minutes with a 5 minute period of time where no one in line was waited on but you could see new people sitting at the bar for more expensive alcoholic beverages getting waited on immediately!) read more

Really a terrible location. The cafe space takes up probably half the store so you'd think they were focusing on making that a good experience, but they have not. I know they really just opened but the cafe staff's training is unacceptably bad. We stopped in for a quick lunch. It looks sort of fancy and fun and the food is extremely pricey. I wouldn't mind that if it were any good, but my turkey sandwich was way too cold--like it had been frozen--the avocado mash on it was absolutely gray and the wrap tasted crunchy and stale. Not what I expect for $8. My husband ordered a tea and the staff tried to talk him into the largest size, a purely bald upsell for 20 measly cents. And then didn't put the top on securely so it spilled boiling hot water all over his hand when she passed it to him. She apologized, but the proper course of action there is to also comp the tea, which they did not. They also only have tiny paper beverage napkins, which awkward for lunch. It's just such a weird concept store. You'd think the food, accoutrements and staff training would match the very snazzy decor, but that is 100% not the case. This is the second time I've been here. The first time they didn't have the proper size cup for my drink and tried to sell me a larger size. If I hadn't wanted a larger size, I would have ordered one. Honestly, I will not be back. I understand growing pains, but Barnes & Noble is not a new company, even if this is a new concept. My overall impression is that there is a reason they're struggling. read more

Its great to finally see a bookstore in Loudoun County. This new Barnes & Noble Bookstore opened in November (2017) at the One Loudoun center. This store represents a prototype for the future. Being a book lover, I like bookstores with a large section of books for browsing. This store is very different than any other B&N that I have visited throughout the country. It is truly a social gathering place with a sizeable restaurant. While there ARE books here, I would estimate that the selection of books here is at least 50-70% less than what you would find at a typical B&N store. Yes, this is the day of Amazon and shopping for books in the internet, but I love to browse and buy books. In that respect, this new prototype falls short. It is very spacious and airy, and there is not a lot of clutter or a very large selection. I would say that the selection is comparable to the former B. Dalton bookshops that B&N used to operate - there were compact stores crammed with books. I would say that they are definitely catering to the Millennials - there is a large selection of books for teens and kids. Its definitely worth a visit, but overall... my evaluation of this store is Ho Hum! read more

What a nice place to hang out. I was surrounded by tall shelves of books and magazines. You can hang out at the beautiful cafe area; plug in your laptop; people-watch through the floor to ceiling windows; engage the staff in coversation about books, tv shows, movies, and other topics. There is also a tv if you need a break from people and the cafe offers delicious food. I'm extremely picky about restaurants. I look for cleanness, great service (yes, i mean you Adrianne!) and most importantly flavorful food. Who would think that a bookstore offers that? Well Barnes and noble does!! I order steak cheese sandwich and it was so tasty!! One specialized order came out missing an ingredient; we sent it back and it came out perfect, with a nice salad garnish added. The cook was very generous. After a great meal browse through the store. Barnes and Noble has great books, educational toys, and absolutely beautiful greeting cards. What a great time I spent in this bookstore last night. Please be here to stay Barnes and Noble. Barnes & Noble - Cheese sandwich, delicious! - Bookstores Near Me - Ashburn, Virginia

The restaurant at Barnes and Noble in One Loudoun was a disappointment. After waiting for fifteen minutes while the barristas served only three people ahead of me, I ordered and paid for a breakfast sandwich and a mocha coffee. The coffee took another ten minutes to produce while I sat at the counter. The breakfast was never served. I asked the man who took my order, who wanted to know what I ordered. He went into the kitchen and came back, reporting the my sandwich would be out soon. The cook came out of the kitchen and had a conversation with someone else who was sitting at the counter. He was clearly not cooking anything. Some time later a breakfast sandwich was produced. The bread was not toasted. The onions, which the menu says are carmelized, were still raw and barely warmed. At this point I was running late for a visit, so I pulled off the raw onions, crossed my fingers about the eggs, and ate the untoasted sandwich. There wasn't time left to finish it. I would not patronize this facility again. Why have an impressive seating area with a kitchen and then have people who are either poorly trained or who just don't care about the quality of the food? read more
