We were trying to decide where to go for lunch and I said I feel like a really good pizza. My wife said, "guess we're going to Barnaby's today. 128 miles later (about 70-80 miles less than going to a Chicago area location or other great Chicago pizza place) we walked in to Barnaby's and placed our order. Nothing at all (except perhaps remodeled bathrooms) has changed at this (and probably all Barnaby locations) since I started enjoying their pizza in the early 1970's. You still order at the counter, get your drinks or soda at the bar and wait until your number is called. Our pizza was once again masterfully prepared and reminded me why I am willing to drive so far for good pizza. Wonderful crust, great sauce and perfect ingredients. We purposely left a few pieces so we could snack tonight. This is a perfect Chicago run without going to Chicago. A mile or so up the road is a Portillo's where we also stopped and bought a few pounds of Italian Beef so we won't be without this winter. But once again, this review is about Barnaby's. Totally impressed and thrilled at the same time that a place like this can maintain its consistence and excellence for well over 50 years.

Amazing as always just as I remember from my entire life. Best root beer so good so good. Love the pizza, sandwiches, fry's too. Service with a smile

So, really Barnaby's is a 2-star joint. But it's such a mainstay of the area and has so much atmosphere, I can't give it less than 4. The pizza is simple, but awesome. The staff expect you to know the secret South Bend ways on instinct, so be prepared to fumble around and have them giving you WTF looks the whole time. It's worth it for the experience, though.

Nasty hard bread sticks that are 1.75 EACH!!!! Canned cheese that tastes like plastic. Canned Parmesan cheese.

WHAT A TOTAL NIGHTMARE OF A MESS!!!!! The restaurant is an absolute disaster! Nasty & dirty. You order your food and pay the RUDE cashier at the 2nd window. They was you receive the food is horrendous! Pizza comes out the first window on the far right. Anything that's not pizza comes from the 3rd window on the left. Then drinks you have to order at the bar - paying separately! What a cluster of a nightmare! Food is VERY EXPENSIVE!!!! Drinks, wow!!! Total rip off. 7.00 for a pitcher of pop, 4.00 for a glass?! Ridiculous. Ah, and the cashier at the bar expected tips when we ordered pop. She pointed at the tip jar everytime someone ordered pop. Don't waste your time on this dark, dingy nasty place!! It's so gross. I ended up getting food poisoning from this place.

Sausage and mushroom pizza with copious amounts of fresh red pepper, and Parmesan

Our favorite pizza in South Bend. Consistent reliable delicious. Always the same just as it's been since we were kids love that can never go wrong with the pizza from Barnabys

Inside of my onion ring... it's the part of the onion on the outside that you are suppose to PEEL OFF AND DISGARD.

Disappointed this location does not allow free refills on soft drinks. Won't be eating at this location again.

Good pizza and draft beer. Odd ordering of beer and food in separate lines. Pizza served very hot and fresh.

Maybe the posted hours are wrong. Came by before closing to locked doors. It was disappointing, after making the drive.

Pizza was ready when they said. Guessing the cheese has changed, very salty taste from last time purchased.

I need to tell you about Polito's Italian Restaurant at 401 N. Hickory Rd. in South Bend, because I…read morecan't keep this vodka sauce to myself. First of all, it's family owned, and their kitchen is one of the cleanest I've ever seen. Their salad bar has so many choices that if you can't find something you like, I don't know what to tell you. They make their own croutons, too. I saw them come out of the oven today, and I briefly considered standing there until someone handed me a tray. But the rigatoni with vodka sauce is the reason I'm writing this. I would eat that sauce by the gallon. I've gone in just to buy some so I can use it at home. I even told the guy that if they ever go out of business, I'm buying the recipe. I'm not trying to sell it--I just need it, because whatever I make at home isn't even in the same ZIP code. Their pizza is amazing, and somehow even the sauce on that is good. They have affordable daily specials that actually fill you up, plus beer and wine. There's a front room and a back room with plenty of seating, so bring your family for a get-together. Hell, bring your friends too. They've got room for all of you. I'm adding pictures of the menu and salad bar so you can see what I'm talking about. Please go give this local, family owned place some love. We can't keep saying we want places like this around and then only eat at chains. I really don't think you'll be disappointed. And if you go on a bad date, don't blame the food. At some point, you've got to consider the personality.

It was basically all bread, lettuce, and a few tiny pieces of ham. Also ordered a slice of the stuffed veggie pizza. This was the biggest disappointment by far! It was literally bread and spinach. And most of it was bread. It's easy to say I will never return. I ordered through DoorDash because if I would've ordered in the store, I would've immediately returned the food.

Perhaps not the best in the area or even the best on the strip, but better than most food chains…read morefor the area. I had a hand tossed pepperoni extreme which was full of oil, a thin crust bacon and mushroom with less oil, their Buffalo wings with ranch and their famous breadsticks with cheese sauce. The pepperoni extreme pizza had far too much oil for my taste, but the flavors were very much on point. There was some spice along with cheese that didn't quite want to stay on the pizza when I went to separate my slices. The thin crust bacon and sausage pizza had less oil and a wonderful crust with the same cheese situation as the other pizza. I imagine either pizza would be great for a party with alcohol. That's not to say it wasn't delicious because it was, but when it comes to pizza I have to be a hundred percent honest. The wings were less crispy than I prefer, but with a flavorful explosion. The meat also falls off the bone easily which is a plus for sensitive teeth situations. I must say flavor is the one thing these people are doing right over here. I just hope your stomach is young enough to handle it. Next I had their famous bread sticks with cold cheese sauce. The cheese was nothing to brag about, but the breadstick had that brick oven flavor that many people enjoy. I'm not sure if it was a combination of oils, but once I started eating my first breadstick, my stomach began to rebel, as if to say I had done something seriously wrong. I would like to see what else this place has to offer and a very much suggest visiting this establishment, but I must also add that there are other options for those of you with a sensitive stomach.

I've learned they use Grande brand cheese which is top of the line fresh soft mozzarella. Perfect for pizzas and reheats next day great. They have a great variety of options for toppings and predesigned pizzas. We just found this place a week ago, and have been 3 times! Addicting, plus they are quick to cook, and even a text when your pizza goes into the oven! Fun and helps with pickup orders.
