Fast service and quick food was the game that we had at Barnabier. It was located near the ocean area and you can sit inside or outside. We picked the nice outside that also had shade where we were seated. Our server was a nice older man that was super quick on the drinks and for our offer. The food was pretty tasty, and we ordered a few different items for the table to share. Had raw oysters, fried shrimp, tomato bread with anchovies on top, fried oysters, grilled fish, and a seafood plate that was steamed nicely. Maybe one dish I didn't really like was the fried shrimp. My favorite was the grilled fish that had chopped garlic butter on it. I also love the tomato bread with anchovies. Overall I did enjoy this place because everything came out super quick and the food tasted good! I'm surprised at how low the rating is for this place on Yelp. But I would say if you want specific items you should ask the server and that is what we did for our grilled fish and that we were quick on time. read more

The huge menu and pictures scared us at first...you know, menu pictures mean tourist trap. But our tour guide recommended it so we took a leap of faith, and we were pleasantly surprised. Forgot to take pictures, but the 4 of us enjoyed everything we ordered! We had the grilled octopus, excellent! Plus the mussels with wine, which was on special. We had the grilled vegetables, amazing! freshly grilled with eggplant, peppers, zucchini, asparagus. The Caesar salad was just right. The fried calamari was heavily breaded, the only dish not so excellent unless you like all the breading! The sparkling sangria was very refreshing, if a bit light on the cava. Our waiter was very responsive and attentive, rare in Spain! And we had dessert too...almond pastry and the chocolate lava cake. Seriously, good food! read more

We three tired and hungry tourists needed to get a quick dinner before our tour bus came to get us. Service was friendly and quick. Pizza, pasta and salad came out quickly and were pretty refreshing. The prices were about as expected. The indoor serving area is also a tapas bar so it could get a bit noisy. But our experience was great! read more

Service - I would say average or below avg. we were waiting for someone to sit us and peole passed by... The Sangria was excellent. The croquettes were good though greasy. Location excellent. The main plate - the paella valenciana was a disappointment. Rice was undercooked, the langostinos were "dirty" with their little intestines, the chicken had the grease and bones, flavor was also a disappointment. Therefore, considering all the above and the price its barely 2 stars. read more

We stayed in Barcelona for six days. We came here three times for lunch and now a late dinner. We love the staff -Gloria and Rane. We enjoyed the assorted spinach, Iberian ham and toast, crispy chicken fingers, fried anchovies, grilled sirloin steak, seafood platter. We have truly enjoyed our time in Barcelona. A nice, secluded by windbreakers, restaurant which revolves around seafood. We didn't eat as it was too early but popped in for a drink at midmorning. Checking out the menu, we will be back for their seafood. Service was quick, although a little unfriendly. I put that down to time of the day. Not being sure what to expect upon walking in, I was glad we rode out the initial apprehension as the food and service was definitely worth it. We found the place nearly empty upon entering and being that we were close to the noon hour thought perhaps the signs were pointing to a terrible experience. We had requested a booth, but were ushered instead to a table for two near the windows. When I objected it was explained that for the two of us this was a more appropriate as the other tables were for larger parties. Ok, whatever, I thought....there's no one here. After that I was a bit skeptical while reviewing the menu, but our server was kind and brought my standard house red and some chips we'd requested to start our meal. I began to understand the seating requirement as over the next 15-20 minutes I watched a plethora of people flow in to be seated for lunch. We ordered the seafood paella and it was so fresh it tasted as though it had just been caught that day. Fresh seafood laid atop a bed of rice and saffron filled a large skillet which they brought to the table. After showing us the lunch they had prepared it was quickly whisked away and returned to us in equal portions on two separate plates. Well the food was delicious, and the wine excellent as well. The service, attentive and kind and even though busy we did not have to wait long for anything we needed, including the check. Our leisurely lunch by the sea was one of our best meals in Barcelona, but cost-wise not out of range for such an excellent meal. I just want to make a quick comment before I start my review. For those reviewers complaining the staff doesn't speak English, YOUR IN SPAIN, not the US. And most of the slow service complaints are from US Yelpers. The pace in Europe for dining IS slow, thats whats so great. They take their time and enjoy each other and the food and wine. You will never get a check until you ask for it as they don't want to rush you. Okay, moving on. We got back to our hotel late and needed something close. Barnabier is in the Port Olympic area right at the marina providing nice views. We chose to sit outside and enjoy the nice weather. The menus are in Spanish with an English next to it making it easy for those of us who don't speak the local language. Our waiter did speak limited English and we had no problems ordering. We chose both the ham and the mushroom croquettes and the calamari to start. We also ordered the fresh sea bass and a side of clams. The croquettes were okay, a little "pasty" in texture and flavor I have definitely had better. The calamari was excellent, large rings in a light batter served with fresh lemon. The seabass arrived and we were surprised it was served whole, but we were happy to dig in. It was absolutely delicious! It was chargrilled making the skin so crispy and the chargrilled flavor went all the way into the fish, it was so moist. The clams were also very fresh and served with butter. Overall it wasn't a bad dinner for being in a touristy location. The one negative was that smoking is allowed outside and there were many smokers. You may want to sit inside if that bothers you. read more

Barnabier has a super-nice patio along the waterfront that allows for a welcome rest from walking to & around Olympic Park on a chilly & windy afternoon Their enclosed patio blocked out the wind chill factor & allowed for a lovely atmosphere to gaze along the harbor & waterway.....too bad they allowed smoking as everyone around us was all lit up. But what can you do? Ordered their white wine spritzer & vegetarian garden paella.....I was looking for something light & bubbly that was like a sangria, only without the liquor The spritzer was delicious & hit the spot The paella had a nice flavor to the rice but there was no "garden" in this mix - it was filled with zucchini and eggplant. We saw maybe 1 floret of cauliflower & some minced peppers / onions Where was the corn? Mushrooms? Green Beans? Carrots? Peas? There are sooooo many other veggies that grow in a garden besides zucchini and eggplant - and given zucchini gives me a stomachache, I had plateful after plateful of rice while the Mr took the majority if the zucchini & eggplant So for taking a chance & discovering a lovely spritzer, have to say A-OK. Baaaad so baaaaad.. I was sooo hungry so we just sat down in one of the first things that looked okay. It looked... Off course it was in one the most touristic area but still. We both ordered a pizza. I ordered one with veggies and my friend with ham. We even said to each other: who can f**k up a pizza?.... I think we waited for like 10 minutes and there was the pizza already. That makes me suspicious, even a deep frozen pizza takes 12-17 minutes.. So it was definitely not fresh. Well I was hungry so I started. It tasted like fat. It was so not good. When Iam writing this my stomach started protesting again. My pizza doesn't get any stars. But my friend did like hers, so that's one star. And they get a star for the view. We sat outside and had some beautiful view all over the harbor. It's was a calming view. Next time I will skip this place for sure. There are a lot of more options further down the boulevard. read more

I must say that Barnabier was one of my favorite restaurants in Barcelona. By far, they have some of the best sangria I have ever tasted. Sweet and flavorful! We went to this restaurant at least 6 times solely for the sangria within a 3 day period! Delicious. Additionally the food was great. I tried chicken paella for the first time and I was not disappointed. The garlic shrimp were delicious and perfect for snacking prior to the meal. I also tried the sirloin steak. I asked for medium and actually received more of a rare middle however I tried it and actually enjoyed. The staff was prompt and courteous. Definitely worth having a seat and trying the food. read more

Today, we went to Bernabier because we had a good experience there +/- 10 years ago. We had excellent tapas, the sangria was just ok. Our negative feedback : - our waitress couldn't almost not speak English. Not only at Bernabier was the language a problem, but also in a lot of places in Barcelona. And that for being an international city ! - we got the check and the waitress was BEGGING for a tip. We got even not the time to be alone after getting the check. Ugh! Walked from Plajte Bella de Mar to here and so finally stopped, obviously, as I was finally hungry. The frizzy drink was the only thing good. Should have known as the pallea was only available for Order via 2-person. So near the beach as is all the restaurants you can find there. And all prices are reasonable 12-17-25 euro but most in range of 12-18 euro. The second sign should have been that this place serves pizza. I think nearly American style. It's okay but I don't think anyone comes to Barcelona for okay. Sorry another bad review. Often a five star rating just says it all but it's bad I want to explain why. As it's just my opinion. So. I ordered a dish and it was not what I asked for, I politely asked for them to take it back to order something else and they were very rude. I came here for a vacation and stopped by at this restaurant. Overall the food we ordered was good! The lobster paella took almost 30 minutes. When ordering, it was hard because there were language barriers. That wasn't the main problem tho. The problem was answering yeah to every question I asked. So when I asked, can we share this paella (2 people) for three people? She nodded yes. When the bill came it, they charged us for 2 orders of paella and kept telling us each paella has a limit of 2 people. This restaurant -- one of a line of beach esplanade eateries -- seems to be geared strictly to visiting tourists, with a smattering of locals. If nothing else, they should've done away with the foliage that blocked most of the view of the beach walk because this is strictly a people-watching joint, with food placing a distant second.... This is a great place right along the water. I came here for dinner with three of my friends and we ordered family style, which I recommend. My favorite dish was the delicious Chicken Paella. The food, service and price were all really great!! View of the marina couldn't be better, perfect spot for a quick casual dinner! Sangria was pretty good, the server's english was better than most places and explained the pricing of paella to us, which was a really nice curtesy, to make sure we understood it was priced per person and min 2 person order. The paella was better than the €80 paella we had 2 days ago!!! The razor clams were fresh, large and plentiful per order. didn't try to upsell or oversell to us at all!!
