Delicious spot with a great patio area! This is the perfect spot if the weather outside is nice. They have a happy hr from 4-7 with $2 off apps and $5 drink specials. You can make reservations, but it didn't seem like you needed one. There's plenty of seating inside and outside. ROASTED CHICKEN EGGROLLS ($11) I love this egg roll trend that's going on an this is no exception. The filling was loaded, cheesy and delicious. The avocado dipping sauce went perfectly with it too. BUFFALO MAC ($12) This spot is known for Barley Whirksy and Mac and Cheese so I definitely needed to try the mac and cheese. THe buffalo mac was a winner! It was perfectly cheesy and saucy. My only complain is that it's a pretty small portion size. read more

The food was definitely disappointing the crab cake should have been labeled as a breadcake. My partner ordered a salmon dish and the salmon was not the main thing on the plate it was a plate full of carbs. The server was wonderful but the food was awful gave it 2 stars because of you have to eat you could go there if nothing else is open. read more

They have a good ambience and the service is fast. So fast that they get their appetizers and main course together! Food is so-so. The margherita pizza is good. I really enjoy Barley MAC. This is my third dining experience here and always my first choice for meeting up with friends in Arlington. I stopped in last night to meet a friend for dinner. I walked in about 7pm. Despite the rain, It was a light crowd but steady. I ordered a glass of Malbec and it hit the spot. We decided to share a few appetizers. To be exact, we ordered 4 items including the crispy Brussels sprouts, pork belly?, mussels, and Tuna tartare. Can I just say Everything was delicious! The plates can be shared among people. The mussels had a tomato base and that was my favorite. read more

Let's talk happy hour! It's my favorite time of the day. Over at Barley Mac, 4-7 Mon-Sat, is when they're serving it and it's where you wanna be. I brought my son and we had a nice mix of food while I have some adult beverages. You have to sit at the bar area to enjoy this menu, but there's ample seating with friendly and prompt service. Here's a quick breakdown of what we tried. We started with the Deviled eggs with pepper and bacon. This was a big winner for me and I would order it again. We also tried a cheese pizza and at $9, it is a great deal, with a decent taste and it went well with my whiskey sour. We added a side of pork shoulder tacos with a nice creme sauce. I would recommend you try those if you stop by. Overall, the food and the atmosphere was great and I'll probably be back for more soon! read more

Came here for brunch - we ordered the Mac 'n Cheese, OF COURSE. I ordered the traditional benedict, which was quite good (not the best I've had, but still good and filling!) Great, attentive staff throughout our stay. Overall, a very good meal and the mac 'n cheese was as good as we read about. read more

Tried Barley Mac for brunch today. We had the lobster Mac and cheese, banana foster french toast, Nutella Johnny cakes, and the southern chicken sausage gravy. I liked the lobster Mac the best. Tried it with some old bay hot sauce, which gave it a little kick. The banana foster French toast was tasty but looked like something I attempted at home. The bananas foster was a little mushy, so the presentation didn't make me want to dive right in, and the only reason the bread was hot was because of the bananas foster. I would have preferred a thicker brioche or the banana foster on the side to avoid soggy bread. The chicken sausage gravy was good, as were the Nutella johnny cakes. We also had the brunch mule and orange juice. Both were underwhelming. The mule gave me a headache. Atmosphere was cool with good music playing and the service was great. It was pretty empty when we arrived at 11:20, so that seems to be a good time to go. It started to pick up when we left but it still wasn't crowded. There are a few other items I'd like to try on the menu but I will probably try them again for lunch or dinner. read more

This is a Rosslyn go-to. I've been here twice in person and once via a food delivery service. The mac and cheese is the best one I've found in the area by a mile. I've tried the burger, one of the pizzas, and then the caesar salad. If you get fries, don't be shy and order the truffle fries, they're the one. Overall, great spot. They have brunch too and, based on peeping other tables, they give you the champagne bottle which is always fun. It's a short-ish (albeit up) walk from the metro station. Make the trek, get some food, would recommend. read more

Service was bad. They would just walk right past our table without stopping by to ask us if we needed our water refilled or anything else. We kept trying to get the employees' attention for a good 20 minutes to get our water refilled and then another 15 to get our check. Our waitress in charge of our table only came back to check on our table once or twice in the two hours we were there. The crowd in the restaurant decreased, so she had no excuse in not coming back to check up on us especially when we were the only table left in that section of the place. The food was mediocre. The pizza was extremely oily, but out of all the dishes, was probably the most decent tasting one. The pasta was not memorable because the seafood was too salty. The pork belly was overcooked. Honestly, the food is not worth paying for. read more

Just walked out of the place. No one was at the host station so we opted for the bar and self-sat. This was at 8:55 pm and the bartender said the kitchen closes in 5 minutes though their hours are posted until 10 pm. Ordered food as fast as we could and then ordered drinks. The bartender proceeded to walk away and talk to every other customer in the place and coworker before coming back to the bar to pick up his phone and text. This went on for about 15 minutes until we announced to him we were leaving. He barely looked up and continued to text. The place was filthy too. Not a drink had been cleared from the tables or the bar. Don't bother to go and just save your money. read more

Barley Mac has been on my list for awhile after a friend recommended it. My wife, toddler, and I visited for Saturday brunch around 11:30am and left disappointed. Before I get into that, here's what to love: Space: It's spacious with a large indoor dining area that's beautifully designed and a less beautifully designed outdoor patio. We were able to walk in without a reservation. Kid-friendly: It's very kid-friendly. They immediately brought us a high chair for our toddler and crayons and a coloring paper. Drinks: We ordered a bottle of champagne and two purees to add to it for mimosas for only $15. The prickly pear juice was excellent. Here's what we didn't love: Food: Everything we ordered was not very good. My wife ordered the burger. The fries it came with were not salted, cold, and not good. The burger itself was average. My eggs benedict had cooked spinach on it giving it a bitter taste. Yuck. The hashbrowns it came with were unsalted and bland. Service: They were slow and offputting. Every time they stopped by, which was almost never, they'd leave quickly before we were done ordering. It was so odd. All in all, Barley Mac is NOT a restaurant to make a trip for. There are far better places nearby or in nearby D.C. read more

Before I start writing this review, I have to apologize to the restaurant staff because I wasn't careful with my hand movements while talking and ended up breaking a glass. I apologize if that anyone caused any trouble. Thank you to the server and the cleaner who took care of that asap. Thank you so much. Starting the review - I live 5 minutes away from Barley Mac and go by it once every day. It is always very crowded there and I finally got a chance to check it out what all that crowd is about. I had 2 drinks and one of it was a mule which was absolutely fantastic. Loved both of the drinks. I had a sushi style tuna dish over coleslaw that I forgot the name of and can't find it on the menu. It was absolutely fresh and the wonton on top of it were crispy fresh as well. Tried the calamari which was absolutely amazing as well. Crispy and not overcooked at all. Tried grilled octopus as well which was something I was looking forward the most and absolutely loved it. Great service, ambiance and food. Will go again soon. read more

First time experiencing this restaurant which was for a relative's birthday dinner. The menu was fine and an interesting drink selections. I had the wedge salad and added chicken, truffle fries. The chicken added to the salad was great! I had the sangria as well (not pictured) priced $10 and it was great. I gave his establishment a 3/5 due to the wait time with our drinks. I waited about 30minutes for a glass of sangria. I'm not opposed to coming back but unsure when. read more

Customer service, not so great. Food, average. Tried a few different plates. Bagel sandwich with ham, egg, cheese, was good, but nothing spectacular especially when considering the price. The fries were extremely oily and by the time it got to our table, they were cold. The shining star was the gnocchi, great flavor and was a unique dish! Our party was barely checked on, server forgot to the take the order of one member of our party. Food came out at different times, and extra food was brought to our table by three different servers, trying to figure out who ordered what (food that we never even ordered- maybe they got the table number wrong??), water glasses went empty until we asked for water, a drink was never ordered, had to yell across the restaurant to get our servers attention to order a drink. Long wait times when it wasn't even busy. Nice guy, just below-par service. read more

Update a week later: Ask for ChaCho. He will take good care of you. We were hot. So he even unscrewed the lightbulb. He was on top of our drinks. Totally appreciated the service. Went for Brunch today. We have been here before. Always great service. Food was good too. So I opted not to do the 30.00 brunch. I only drink one mimosa. Haha! Anyways one mimosa was 3.00. Great deal! I had the cordon Bleu omelette and the hubby had the lobster Benedict. His only thing was his potatoes for his side were not fully cooked. Still we were happy because service was stellar from the server who asked if my hubby was ok when we arrived. He was on his knees due to a bad back today. Thanks for checking. Came here for lunch with friends and got the garden salad with grilled chicken. The chicken was dry and the salad was average, although the balsamic vinagrette dressing was good, not worth the price. My friends all ordered the mac and cheese and I tried my partner's and we both though that it was too bland. The serving size is also rather small. Also when we went at 11:30AM, the server gave us both the brunch and lunch menu but said that we may not be able to order items off the lunch menu because she's had the chef refuse to make them (and the manager was on vacation). The server was really accomodating and this was no fault of hers, but to the chef: if you are only making brunch items, then you should only hand out the brunch menu... read more

Meh. Been here for dinner and brunch. The food is good, well presented and made using good ingredients. But portions are small and the prices are really high compared to other places in the area doing similar things, with nothing else about the restaurant that is special enough to justify the price difference. Service quality has always hovered around the bare minimum acceptable. Decor and ambiance are fine but nothing amazing. Most recently, my $16 benedict with home fries left me still hungry and my poached eggs came out ice cold. The one standout is the classic cocktails - well prepared, well portioned and well presented for a reasonable price. Come for cocktails and maybe an app or fries and then go across the street to Guajillo or Mele for your actual meal. read more

My cousin lives right around the corner and wanted to eat brunch here. We were able to walk in and get seated pretty quickly. Their drink menu looked great but I went with a safe mimosa (which I regret since they had some creative drinks which would've been fun to try). For my entree, I ordered the Barley Mac burger and it was honestly one of the tastiest burgers I've had in a while. I asked for it to be cooked medium and the patty tasted awesome. The tomato jam, arugula, and provolone also added ton of flavor, while the bacon acted like the cherry on top of a sundae. The fries were okay. I initially thought it was a little overpriced but I think it's worth it after having a taste. My cousin's Nutella pancake however looked pretty depressing. It was big but after gauging his reaction to the meal, I don't think it was that good. I think he wanted my burger haha. read more

Came here for happy hour when I visited DC back in Dec. It was only about a 10 minute walk from my hotel which was great because it was super cold that day. When we arrived, it was still pretty empty but we just decided to sit at the bar. By the time we left around 8pm, it was really packed. I started with the Cocktail of the Month and luckily it was the Old Fashioned. Sweet! Plus it was only $6 so I had several rounds...lol :) My friend got a Grey Goose Martini. Both cocktails were good and not watered down. As far as food, we just ordered a bunch of items from the Happy Hour menu because the prices were awesome. We got the Crispy Brussels with pineapple and pork belly for $6. Then followed by the Pizza Pepperoni and Wagyu Beef Meatballs. Everything was pretty impressive. The brussels were nicely charred with bits of tasty pork belly. The pizza was $9 and it's big enough for 2. The toppings were fresh and the dough was toasty. The meatballs had great flavor and the sauce was on point. It came with 2 meatballs for $7. We really enjoyed our visit here. The bartender was attentive. The food quality was great and very affordable. The ambiance was lively with a friendly crowd. read more

Completely unimpressed The calamari was so thick and rubbery. Definitely frozen. The only positive was the two sauces. I was gonna have a soup, but they don't make them to order. My husband and I tried Barley Mac about because we heard they had a really good Mac & Cheese, and I can say it was pretty good! We ordered the Crab Mac & Cheese and added truffle oil. It was good! I will say for a Friday night at 730PM, it was very quiet and calm in the restaurant. Our server was not extremely attentive, we had to ask him to take our menus from the table (while we were eating our appetizers) and when we were eating dinner we had to ask for him to take our empty appetizers plates. Other than the service, my husband enjoyed the steak & salad while I devoured the crab mac with a side of broccolini. read more

Great place for happy hour! Nice deals on a variety of apps and cocktails ($5 - $10). I really like how the happy hour is from 3 to 8pm (HH starts back up again at 10pm!) with plenty of high top tables. I really liked the fruity white sangria on happy hour. Typically, I'm not a fan of sangria as it's typically bad wine offset by juice and sugar, but the house sangria was surprisingly good and not overly sweet. The wood-fired Margarita pizza is delicious, I love the soft chewy dough and pillowy crust. I wasn't a big fan of the deviled eggs, they weren't very flavorful. The truffle mac and cheese was a bit disappointing for $10. I'm surprised that it didn't make the cut for the happy hour menu. Where was the truffle oil? I was searching around and couldn't find it. I wish the mac and cheese was creamier and didn't quite live up to the name. The Tawny & Spice cocktail is quite potent and packs a punch! It's a cocktail of port, bourbon, bitters and sweetened with chai syrup. I enjoyed it and got a 2nd round although it's not on happy hour. The red sangria (not on happy hour, only the white one is on happy hour) with apple brandy and fig puree was pretty tasty that my friend ordered, and will save that for next time! I have come here for brunch and got the spinach and hearty mushroom omelette. The cheesy omelette was quite filling with 3 eggs and loaded with vegetables. The strawberry basil mimosa was delicious and the best part of my meal! The passionfruit mimosa wasn't as good and will stick to the strawberry basil. Although Barley Mac is a nice brunch spot, I prefer coming here for happy hour as the deals are better. As Barley Mac is in between Rosslyn and Courthouse, I've walked from both stations. If you're looking to get a quick work out in and an uphill climb, then get off at Rosslyn, which is a bit closer. If you like a longer easy downhill walk, then get off at Courthouse. Either way, Barley Mac is a short 10 min walk and worth the trek! read more

We were surprised to walk in at 6pm to find literally one other party there and then just a couple people at the bar. We should have just left. I remember when this place opened and it probably was great before Covid. The booth seats are uncomfortable. They're narrow, they're also ripping everywhere.. it looks terrible. Imagine how The Continental was before they closed. That was how bad the seats were. We got soups to start. French onion and lobster bisque. Lobster bisque had such a canned seafood taste. Like canned tuna and canned shrimp have, if you've ever been so lucky to have canned shrimp. My French onion was just so full of undercooked onions... onions that were just sautéed for about 5 mins and then put at the bottom of a soup crock, covered with beef broth, a huge soggy piece of bread, and two THICK a pieces of Swiss. That cheese was so hard to get through.. and so much of it was over cooked that even when mixed into the broth it stayed together and didn't melt. The price of bread was fine, but the edges were so tough. The broth was the star of the show especially when I got to the undercooked onions at the bottom. What a disservice to French onion soup! Our entrees arrived and.. I wanted to like it. Cajun pasta should be FULL OF FLAVOR! It wasn't. And the server even came by to ask, while I was eating, if I wanted hot sauce because they always needed hot sauce. It was welcome.. it needed hot sauce and more flavor. Imagine my disappointment when I got a bottle of fuckin Texas Pete lmao My fiancé got a buffalo chicken flatbread and it was a whole ass pizza. It was a 10 inch round pizza, enough for two people, definitely not a flatbread. Granted, it was good, but we were both surprised when it showed up. read more

The food is great but F*** do they have the worst bar section I have ever been to. I've come 5 times and not once have I ever been able to get service within 10 minutes of arriving. After my beer is gone it's a hassle trying to even find the bartender because they are understaffed and the dude is also a server. He can only take one order at a time. So if your with a group you are screwed. There was one week they had a dedicated bartender. But he was so oblivious to customers needs, literally just stared off into space and took a good two minutes of waving to get his attention. They would be such a great bar if they only had some decent F'ing service. If I could give them a zero I would. read more

I usually don't have high expectations for food at bars, especially for brunch foods, but I was really pleasantly surprised by Barley Mac. We had my girlfriend's birthday brunch here on a Saturday morning with about 13 people overall, so a pretty big group. The restaurant was maybe half full, not too bustling, so it was good for us. There were a lot of different options for brunch on the menu: pancakes, pizza, sandwiches, omelettes, benedicts, etc. Also, they have great mimosa prices, so we ended up buying a magnum bottle for the table. Food: Coccoli - crispy dough, stracchino cheese, prosciutto, & truffle honey. I split this appetizer with some people and it was really delicious. It was warm and doughy, sweet, savory, cheesy, and salty. Great appetizer to share and I read many reviews about it. Breakfast Pizza - white sauce, house sausage, bacon, roasted tomato, fresh basil, & poached egg. The breakfast pizza was so delicious. I ate almost the whole thing and I think it was one of the best dishes at the table, but also everyone also devoured most of their own dishes too. All of the ingredients definitely tasted fresh and went well together. Service was excellent at Barley Mac. They were very kind and helpful especially since we had a birthday cake for our group that they lit and brought out. Overall, had a great experience at Barley Mac. It still confuses me a bit because the food is really good, but in my head I just mainly thought it was a bar. Brunch was excellent and I am sure the other meals are as well. read more
