My neighbor recommended this place for grooming. I was a little hesitant due to my little fur baby had been groomed at petsmart and petco before and was cut pretty bad. I was a little upset that when calling on them for the first time to ask about services I was told quite bluntly that they had no groomers who would be willing to handle an anxious schnauzer. The person who answered the phone didn't ask any addional questions and just stated "no, we don't have any groomers that would be able to handle that kind of dog". Nice....I was actually referred to them by a current customer of theirs...I guess she has a very docile pet that is groomed there. I feel like my dog has been profiled. LOL Oh well, its on to the next on the list to find someone who would appreciate my business. read more

I love barkingdales! Been coming here for about 3 years for my little pupper. Casper gets very well groomed and smells so much better after coming here. They take care very good care of all the dogs that come in here. The price is fairly cheap too. At petco I believe a haircut, bath, and nail trimming is around 100 bucks for an 8 lb dog but here it is only 45. I like to tip well for them because they do so well. I will continue to come here for years to come! read more

So as a first time customer I called to ask for an appointment for my dog. The guy on the phone said I had to bring in her paper work to make sure her shots are current, (totally fine). I get there and the girl at the front desk asks me if it's my first time. I said yes, I grab my dogs folder with her records and she says "Oh, it's fine, we don't need it." Ok.. I think that's where it went downhill for me. They should verify dogs records to ensure the safety of all the other animals. Also cost wise was fine 55 bucks for a bath. (That's what I paid at my old groomer but since I moved from Dallas to Las Colinas I had to find a new groomer). I asked what all was in included. She said the bath and nails. I asked for a deshedding, she said they used could use deshedding shampoo.. I asked if they squeeze their anal glands, she said only on small dogs. Mine is a medium sized dog 48lbs... So same price as my old groomer but way less value for the money. My old groomer washed her, gave her a deshedding shampoo, AND furminator brush to remove excess hair, did her anal glands, sprayed her with a coat conditioner that smells great, and dressed her up in a cute little hanker-chief for the same price.. I'm not saying they're not good, just didn't meet my expectations. I will be taking my dog back to Oak Clips even though it's further away they do a better job. read more

This is the most AWESOME and CARING team. They always make time for my little ones and they always treat them as if they were their own. I used to use PetSmarts grooming services until the groomers became aggressive towards me and my pets, did not have availability because they rely on petsmarts hours, they have a horrible attitude and work ethic. AND THEN FINALLY, I came across Barkingdales. The inside of the store is so cute and aesthetically pleasing. The staff is always accommodating and friendly. The services are affordable and great! This place does good haircuts on my puppy. I have noticed that the customer service is better when the older lady is working. When the younger people are working, you get a different customer experience. Customer service means a lot to me. I continue going there because they do good grooming. read more

So, it should've been a red flag when I took my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in for a trim up and a bath, etc and the lady that took him in asked if I wanted him cut like a Cocker Spaniel.... I should've left then, but I didn't. The place is run down looking in a small shopping center. You can see directly back into the grooming area, which may or may not be a good thing I suppose depending on the time you show up. I prepaid, which seemed to annoy her, but someone else was picking him up so... Then, they didn't ask for shot records as this was the first time I had been there. Not good practice. So, he got picked up. And when I saw him, I was very sad. We discussed trimming the matts from behind his ears out and cleaning his body up with a slight trim. Also, this breed has "frills" (the hair that grows out from their toes and behind their legs). This was to just be cleaned up as that's a signature of the breed. Imagine my shock when I come home to a no frills Cavalier. In the end, he smells good, which is why they got two stars instead of one. But, $44 later and he looks like a shnauzer/pomeranian cut and they clearly had no clue how to cut this breed. No thanks.... read more

Great owner! Great Experience! I have a 110lb. German Shepherd, Leo, and I had been going to The DogSpaw in Arlington (even though I don't live anywhere near DogSpaw, I like the shops around that area, so there's something for me to do while Leo is being groomed by Sara). Last week when I found out Sara no longer worked there, I decided it was time to find a groomer in my neighborhood. Barkingdales was the closest place, and I had read a great review about the owner, Brenda, and her shop. I called and Brenda answered...Let me just say that she was so polite and kind on the phone--she was really trying to work with my impossible schedule (I rely on the TRE train to get me close to my house, then I drive to my home, but that's tricky b/c my hubby and I share a car so planning can be sticky) but I realized I wouldn't be able to get Leo in to see her with enough time to groom him before she closed at 5PM. She was so nice, she offered to stay late and work with my schedule. It's a long story, but I had to take a taxi to her shop that day due to a car conflict with my hubby, and I figured I would walk home since I lived a mile away. This was my plan. I brought him in and she was so polite and warm--she let me sit at her personal desk to fill out the paperwork because it was more comfortable for me (I am coming to the end of my pregnancy). She took him back and I could see most of the grooming process from her waiting area. She was good to him and she remembered his finicky "areas" (hurt toe, sensitive groin) and used calming words while she cleaned him. When it was over (and she's fast!) it was passed closing time for her, and her hubby arrived. Leo is BIG and I am pregnant, so he automatically volunteered to help get Leo's body harness and leash on him. THEN, Brenda asked me how I planned to get home (since I had to take a taxi to her shop). I told her I was walking home, and that it was only a mile or so away. Mind you, I was juggling my enormous heavy purse, a notebook with my dog's entire medical history, and of course, Leo--it would have taken me hours to get home and the sun was already setting. Brenda stated (wait for it...) she was taking me home!!!!! She insisted on driving me, and she told her hubby she would be back soon. I was so amazed and thankful that old fashioned kindness still existed!! She opened up her VERY CLEAN vehicle and Leo hopped right in. I can't thank her enough...not only for staying late to accommodate a HUGE dog, but also for taking care of me. Her prices were very reasonable too! She has a customer for life! This small business owner reminded me why I love the "mom and pop" shops. read more

Our Maltese is very fussy and usually the groomers aren't able to do as good of a job. Marisol listened to what we wanted done and did exactly that. I took my dogs to be groomed and I should have realized something was wrong when they didn't want to go inside. After my schnauzer was groomed he couldn't open his eyes. The next morning his eyes were matted shut. When I asked Marco at Barkingdales what they did his response was " he probably got hair in his eyes". I immediately took my dog to the vet where they diagnosed him having abrasions on both eyes. Please anyone looking for a groomer stay away from this place, for your dogs sake! read more

Like most pet parents, we were a bit apprehensive about leaving our doggies with a new boarder. Actually, this was the VERY first time we ever boarded our dogs Ace and Webster, normally they stay with friends or relatives when we have to go out of town. With all this said I am so happy to report that Barkingdale's did an AWESOME job! Marco was wonderful to work with, he gave me his personal cell number so we could text and check on our "babies". He always text me back right away and even posted videos of them on Barkingdale's insta-gram account where we were able to see them having a blast with other dogs, going for walks, and walking alongside Marco while he rode his bike. He never made me feel like I was a nuisance when I text or called him inquiring about our dogs, he was always happy to provide a thorough report. We have also used Barkingdale's for our dogs grooming needs, they are a small local owned business so I felt like I was getting personal service unlike the big chains where you feel just like a number. Ace and Webster walked out looking like new dogs after getting groomed at Barkingdale's. We will be using Barkingdale's from now on for all of Ace and Webster's grooming needs, as well as for boarding in the future.
