I was referred to Perky Poodle by a friend and have been bringing my doodle mix there for the last year and a half. He gets very excited when we arrive. I appreciate that it is typically easy to get an appointment at Perky Poodle in the same week you need one. On the day of your appointment, you can drop your pet off between 7:30 and 10 am. They'll ask you around what time you'd like to pick your pet up or they can just give you a call when they're ready. I love the flexibility this provides for me and that they take however much time they need with my dog. From my researching of grooming in the area, Perky Poodle seems to be pretty middle of the road price wise for a doodle mix. Although some places charge less, I am always impressed by the quality of my dog's groom. He gets frequent compliments after grooming and I love that he gets a seasonal bandana to complement his new look. As we've continued to visit Perky Poodle, I think his grooms look even better after each visit. Lastly, I appreciate the service and care Perky Poodle provides. After one groom, my dog developed a hot spot and Perky Poodle took full responsibility, checking in on my dog and compensating us for the vet bill on our next visit. Chose this place because it's very close to home. I needed a basic full groom for my mini Aussie including a paw fur trim. His cut was noticeably terrible on his behind, like genuinely embarrassing for both of us if he could see it lol. Also they did not trim his paws and he is shedding so much 2 weeks after. They did seem to be gentle since he is extremely anxious but we will not return. I'll just take him to his vet from now on. read more

What a bummer the whole Perky Poodle experience was. I called around about a week and a half ago to find a groomer who could take care of our Newfoundland and British lab. They had an opening and told me to be there at 7:30am today. I found it odd that they didn't ask me what kind of dogs and really anything else...I felt like I had to feed the info to them, even though they didn't ask. Anyway, we show up bright and early and they ask for the vaccine records. Oops, I didn't know we had to have those. It makes perfect sense, and I agree with the policy, but I didn't know. One dog was overdue, and the vet was closed that early, so we were turned away. It sure would have been nice to have known that, as I had plenty of time to have taken care of it. We persevered, ran over to Katy Trail Animal Hospital (BEST vets ever!) and they did a quick vaccine without an appointment! With that taken care of we went back and dropped the dogs off. A simple bath for the lab and a de-mat and bath for the newf. The groomer stated that her mats were not bad at all and didn't anticipate any issues. They said that they would be ready for pickup at 3pm, but would call when they were ready. We didn't get a call, so called them at 3:15 or so and they were ready. We ran over to get them and the lady said that the newf would be given one more chance but if any further incidents occur that she would not be welcomed back. She's the most gentle dog in the world, what possibly could she have done??? They said that she did it want to stand up,,,she wanted to sit (typical for the breed), so it turned it into a 2 person job. During them trying to keep her up, they said that their table broke and blamed it on the dog. The lady that brought her out to us had a scowl on her face and visibly disliked our dog. We both got a bad vibe from her...we felt like she hated our dogs. Not a nice feeling, especially after spending more than $200 on simple baths and light mats!! We did like Ali, she was pleasant and nice. I think she felt bad being the messenger of that news. The owner apologized for the lack of communication about the vaccines. The part about the not being welcomed back potentially and the strong feeling that they hated our dog is unacceptable. I could understand if the dog was mean or bit or something, but she just wanted to sit...which is her relaxed and lazy nature. We will not be going back. read more

SILLY ME, I assumed that a grooming salon would ACTUALLY have a groomer there during the hours of operation!!! Apparently they all go home at 2PM, even though they are open until 5:30PM. I don't understand? All I can say is that it's super INCONVENIENT considering I was not informed of this so I got off of work early, picked up my dog, went all the way there just to find out all the groomers are gone. Don't use this place if you have a chance to find another groomer option. The owner is pleasant and attentive to details but there is a problem on the selection of the rest of the people providing dog grooming services. It seems like providing instructional information to new clients is lacking making owners arriving with dogs and not enough documentation about vaccines records. Waste of time! The owner was the only caring and apologetical person for the lack of communication. The rest of the front desk were just not pleasant. At the end, the dogs were cleaned and happy to see us. But for the outrageous price for the service, they should have dressed my dogs with scarfs or bows, like any other groomer would have done. If you consider this place, run the other way. Enjoyed my interactions here and their assistance in getting me scheduled quickly off the wait list. Unfortunately, the cuts were not up to the quality that I hoped for. It was clear after both cuts the groomer did not either take the time or properly back brush my standard poodle especially on the top knot and ears. I actually re-brushed him after each grooming. The cut was nicely even on the body but the ears and top knot were not well done. Also, the feet and face were not closely shaved which can be a challenge for any groomer but I expect at this price that they are competent enough to use a #30 blade. I wanted this to be my permanent location but have moved on. read more

If I could do no stars, I would. I would be remiss if I didn't at least alert you to the inconsistencies going on at Perky Poodle with their "shed out" service. I dropped both Tucker and Callie off at 10 am this morning to Ali making sure to reiterate my regular confirmation that "No cutting will take place with this shed out, right? No scissors will be used, correct?" She reaffirmed that no cutting would take place. It has become the norm for me to always reiterate these questions due to the fact that cutting has taken place on more than one occasion and I've been told by the owner, Ali & a groomer that scissors never get used during a shed out. Today, for the third or fourth time, I picked up the puppies to find they had been cut. Ali preemptively told me they had been cut then said she had already told the groomer he was going to have to come out and answer to me since I had reconfirmed this morning that no cutting would take place. Their bedroom slippers had been cut off. He claimed that they were "limping" and had matts under their paws. My response was, "then fine- you cut the matts off, but you don't completely cut off the entire bedroom slippers! As I've thought about this more this afternoon, I've truly grown more frustrated with Ali. I communicated with HER the reiteration of the "no scissors." It would have been up to her to communicate to the groomer, which clearly she didn't and then quickly threw him under the bus. And on top of it all, prior to even alerting me to this issue, she quickly grabbed my credit card and had it run and me sign and then started filling me in on what happened. She didn't even bother to offer something as far as compensation for the complete lack of caring about the customers request. Ultimately, what I have come to realize is that the neighborhood groomer that I was so happy to have so close to my house has turned out to be the place that just bathes dogs and does it however they want to, not how the pet owner requests. I've already begun the search for a new groomer and will attempt locating one that specializes in the Cavalier breed. read more

I've given them about a dozen chances, but am done with them and don't plan on going back. Listening and following instructions is 67% of your job...executing on, said, instructions is the other half. I've told them to dremel my dogs' nails every time and only have this happen about half the time. This may sound small, but when they cut their nails, they're sharp, when dremel'd, they're not...this is simple....follow the instructions. The haircuts are inconsistent and my dogs have been scalped, more than once. This last time, they didn't seem to put enough effort into cleaning my dogs eyes and returned her with dirty eyes and a dirty mouth. I got to the point when I just said I'm done...I'm done having to ask them to redo things they should have done correctly in the first place. read more

I have gone to Perky Poodle for almost 20 years. I've had a Bichon Frise and two West Highland White Terriers. Each time Mike or Ali will ask me what are we doing today. I will give instructions. Unlike the others who rated this one star, I have never had anything but 5 stars. My dogs are very happy when I pick them up and everyone remarks about how wonderful my dogs look. I have seen celebrities come into Perky Poodle to have their dogs groomed while they were visiting. This is a highly recommended dog salon. Their new facilities at the corner of Mockingbird and Lemmon are very nice and parking is so much easier to get in and out of than their former location. I'm leaving in a few minutes to take my dog for grooming. I know she will be beautiful when she gets home. read more

They'll never see me again. Ridiculous haircut for a Maltipoo. When I picked my pup up Sept 29th from them I was told "oh his curls will be back in about 48-62 hours. Here we are October 21 and my pup's haircut still looks a mess hair is frizzy and dry. No longer curly; soft and healthy looking. I called to complain and the "owner" called me back. We talked and she preceded to tell me they wanted to make it right with another trim on top of the already uneven cut that he had. Then she proceeded to tell me that his hair was changing from puppy to adult. At 4 months old!!! Stop it please. She said she'd call me back in a few days as we were out of town as she was investigating to find out if they used a harsher shampoo. That was October 5 or 6th. Haven't received a call back yet. I am wondering if my dog will ever have the coat he had before this haircut at perky poodle. Looking at the reviews on yelp I ignored and took my chances. I chose wrong. Never again! I have been bringing my dog here for a few years now and I have never had an issue besides a few sub-par hair cuts. My recent visit to Perky Poodle will be my last. I dropped my dog off and was told that it would be a "late pick up" due to them being behind. The lady, (Owner?) told me that she would call me when to pick my dog up. I waited from 11am to 6pm for a call. Well, that never happened. I thought it was weird that I didn't receive a call by their closing time which was 5:30pm. My partner asked me as he was leaving work if I wanted him to pick up our dog as well. I told him no again as I still had not received a phone call. I waited a little longer before I called and got no answer around 6:30pm. My partner got home and said that we needed to call and try everything to get our dog that evening. We had no idea where our dog was or how she was feeling being left there without us, and we surely were not going to leave her there for a weekend! I drove to the store and to my surprise, it was closed! At this point I started to panic and I knocked to see if anyone was in the store but no answer so I ended up leaving a message with my name and phone number. It took an hour for someone to get back at me; I was furious. The lady said they called me 2 times and left a message, and she had already quoted me out for 2 nights of boarding. I have phone records that prove otherwise that I never received a call. I believe they called the wrong person because the lady kept calling me David. Who is David?!?! They didn't take responsibility for their mistakes and I never received an apology. This is not how you handle business and treat customers especially since I've been coming here for a few years. You ask questions and figure how to fix it, and make it right. I won't be revisiting this place for services or care for our dog, ever again. read more

I came in wanting my dog to just have a good bathing and a face trim. I was VERY specific on how I wanted his face cut and told them EXACTLY what I did not want his face to be cut like. I even showed them pictures. I pick him up and they cut him exactly how I told them not to. Oh and they also charged us $70 for a full grooming when all he got was a bath and a terrible face trim. For approximately two years I have been taking my beautiful AKC champion Westie Alex to Perky Poodle without any issues. Alex is 15 years old, dying, in the last stages of bladder cancer. When I take her to be groomed I always pay extra to have tangles and matted hair combed out, plus oatmeal shampoo. On Friday I took her in at 9:45 am, along with Reagan our 11 year old Westie with the same instructions. I asked Olli to have Daniel groom Alex last to be sure she did not have an accident on her freshly groomed coat. When I arrived home after leaving Alex and Reagan at Perky Poodle I had a voice message from Olli. She said she needed to talk to me because Alex's skirt and leges were too matted and Daniel needed to go a lot shorter to groom her. Even though they had always combed out the tangles in the past I agreed for them to cut her coat shorter because I trusted them. After paying they brought both dogs out. Alex's entire body had been shaved leaving only her face and tail unshaved. All I could say was "OH NO How could you have done that to her. She will die before it grows out." Needless to say I am heartbroken and will never go back. read more
