Absolutely Pathetic‼ Have owned 2 condos in a building that Barkan manages, for almost a year. Things got off on the wrong foot when they made a duplicate charge for one of the condos. It was very clearly Barkan's error. When it was pointed out to them as soon as it showed up as a pending charge, there was no effort to cancel the erroneous charge. However they did charge a $30 fee. Which they made it very difficult to have removed from the account. It took months. Once that was settled Barkan raised the fees for the new year. Although had to ask them what it the new fee was. After a few months received a notice that there was an error (again Barkan's)in calculating the increase. So they would be raising the August payment to what the rate should've been in the first place, & including the what should've been charged for the previous months. In less than a year Barkan has made two very obvious errors, & expect their customers to pay for their mistakes! Very Greedy Nickel, & Dimers. read more

I am writing to share my positive experience with the Barkan Management team regarding my recent fence application. The staff was consistently friendly and handled the process in a timely manner. Although I needed to follow up on a specific detail, the team was responsive and the issue was resolved quickly. I appreciate the professional service. read more

The most unprofessional set of people I have ever came across. Barkan Management recently took over property management in my condo building. I walked in the office on a Monday morning, and said "good morning". The blue eyed, blonde haired lady (CAM GORDON) barely looked up and yelled from across her seat "the power is down, there is nothing we can do for you right now!". Stunned and surrounded by 4 other Barkan staff, I simply responded "I was on the thread mill upstairs and it stopped abruptly, I just wanted to check in down here to see what's going on". She is very rude, very condescending, and quite repelling. Treat people better, shame on you and your staff. read more

Horrible management = horrible staff. All of their properties seem to be going downhill because they do a good job of hiring the most intolerable, manipulative, dishonest staff. Building full of cameras but non of them work. Packages are constantly going missing then reappearing opened and tampered with. And this is a "secured entry" building. So it's either not as secure as they say it is, or management and neighbors are the culprit(?). Either way, expecting rent with these conditions is pure comedy. Most of the residents at my property are college student and elderly people. Both great demographics to take advantage of. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

Barkan Co is the residential property management office for the condo I live in. The management has failed to respond to both security issues dealing with a trespasser with access to the building code sleeping in the gym and ongoing (1 year) noise nuisance complaint against a neighbor. Very little communication and action. Yet, our HOA dues are going up every year. I am currently paying $501 per month on HOA fees, but the management company fails to respond to basic responsibilities such as making sure that the building access points are secure, even after notified multiple times times that the security access was compromised. read more

This company is terrible. They don't manage anything. They "run" my apartment building and have done nothing to solve the countless issues that have arisen in the short while I've lived here. But they do certainly know how to hire rude, manipulative, and condescending "managers" to be in charge of their sub-par buildings. Tasia monitors the building I'm legally binded to right now (can't wait for the lease to be over) and all she has done is blame my roommate and I for the faulty equipment they've provided us. She uses scare tactics to put residents into submission until she can force them out. The higher ups at Barken have also done NOTHING about her behavior. They told us they'd set up a meeting with us to discuss the countless issues we've been having, but just like Tasia, nobody responds in a timely manner. We've been blatantly ignored. I've called the company and they transferred me to a line that had no one behind it. Absolutely awful company, do whatever you possibly can to avoid residing in any building that they "manage" because you will not have a pleasant time. read more

Took over the management of our condo in January of 2021 and promised us the world. They did not deliver. We've been given a string of third-rate managers who are unresponsive and hide in the office (when they are here). The front desk/concierge staff are a joke. Package loss in the mail room is on the increase. We might as well not have secured doors because the front desk staff buzz in anyone who doesn't have a key and says they live here. The management refuses to deal with the building's garage company (garage owned and operated by a separate company) who are just as bad as they are. The common areas are increasingly looking shabby. For two years in a row our Master Flood Insurance Policy was late being delivered to us and our mortgage companies so many of us received "nasty grams" from our mortgage companies threatening to buy us expensive Flood Insurance (this is basic stuff, people). Speaking of floods, the last time we had one (due to broke pipes), the gym and business center were wrecked and we have been without those amenities for months and months and months (I think six) while they figure out whose insurance company is going to pay for it (because a contractor caused the damage). Fortunately, we have bought a house far away from this porquria and we are soon moving out! Unfortunately, due to the state of this building, we know we are going to have a very hard time selling out unit. Do not buy any condo managed by Barkan. Don't rent in a building managed by Barkan. Do not allow your condo board to switch you over to Barkan. Again, they promise the world to get your business and they do not deliver. read more

Barkan is not responsive to the communities they serve. Try reaching them, via phone, via email. Might as well trying pissing up a rope. I have no doubt they are partially responsible for the inflated HOA we now pay. Unfortunately the board at this particular condo, is useless, flaccid, and happy to only work for themselves. Let me stay on topic. Barkan. They are really worthless. I'm sorry we don't just hire an in-house accountant to manage our HOA read more

Barkan charges a premium but does NOT take proper care of property. Alarm has been going off in exterior maintenance closet for month! I have made multiple maintenance requests, sent emails -- and nothing has been done. They have a bunch of 1-star ratings for a reason. read more

Living at the Carlyle Square condos is wonderful. I consider it home and have no plans to leave! Carol our Barkan Manager is great to work with. She is friendly and professional and helps make a difference in our community. Her team is great as well, and it is obvious that Carol has a great working relationship with the them. I feel very blessed to live in this area and community. read more

I would rate the manager of the Colonies a zero if I could. His name is Aaron Rosenberg. Recently I thought I had sold my condo at 7680 Provincial Dr. in McLean to a buyer. She is fully qualified and is working with Frank Perna at First Heritage Mortgage to obtain her mortgage. On November 8, 2022, a contractor issued a report detailing things that were wrong in the Colonies. FHA will not endorse the mortgage. Efforts to resolve this through Rosenberg make it obvious he is totally disinterested in resolving this situation. In my opinion (and I am a retired attorney), he just does not give a damn. The lender needs to speak to SRG to clarify a few things in the November 8, 2022, report and to speak to SRG directly. Rosenberg's response was to me was to state that "The Colonies has satisfied all legal obligations and has provided all of the the available information related to pending structural repairs." What is that? How does that help get the FHA to endorse the loan. Obviously, Aaron just wants to be rid of me. He claims that I am the first one to have a buyer run into this problem as though it were not his problem. Huh, if I am first, there are certainly going to be others and it will affect all co-owners at The Colonies even if they are as yet unaware. The lender is going to to need to speak with the contractor that did the evaluation, SRG (specifically Ian Cozens, Senior Project Manager). So, Aaron Rosenberg sends an email to FHM that "I went ahead and reached out to SRG to communicate your concern and request [for an update]. Per Ian Cozens. . ." And if SRG does not respond, I guess my sale is dead. Never in my many years of buying and selling at The Colonies has there been a situation where the office has stonewalled like this. If I were in charge, I would fire Aaron in two seconds. He fails to understand that this FHA problem needs to be resolved globally or it will affect all sales at The Colonies where it is not an all cash deal. I and FHC have spent hours trying to get this resolved so FHC can report back to FHA and get the situation resolved. We seem to be running around in circles and settlement will not occur. To say I am furious about the lack of willingness to spend time to resolve the situation is to put it mildly. I remind you that, if The Colonies is really so defective that people should not be living there, well, the County could come in and condemn the entire development. Then what? Terrible management for Condos. I do not recommend you buy a Condo if they are the management company. I have similar experience as the others, check google reviews. We have a history of inept site managers with the last few being particularly bad, especially the current, temp one. She doesn't answer the phone or respond to emails, lies about the work she's completed or correspondence she's made and has a poor attitude. We also have a history horrible account managers, including the current one. Our previous one L.G. was rude, failed to enforce bylaws and hold violators accountable, was unresponsive to emails and bully unit owners to abide by bylaws that didn't even exist. Current account manager J.Z. is equally horrible. He's arrogant, obnoxious, fails to respond to emails, talks down to unit owners. He's dropped the ball many times in performing certain job duties and requests from Board members leading to frustrating delays in maintenance, collection accounts, budget issues, etc. Many years ago, we used to have great site managers who were super nice and responsible but in the last 7-8 years, the service has gone downhill really far and with the current account manager, it doesn't look like it'll get better anytime soon. The limited interactions I've had with non-building management staff (receptionist, banking folks) were great. But Barkan needs to do better in hiring their building and senior account managers. read more

We inherited Barkan by our cheap, cheap building owner. Hoping they would perform better than the rebranded owner's management sadly Barkan seems to be cut from the same cloth. Not attentive to the complete needs and maintenance of a property. It is bad enough properties not have evolved to off site management but that allows even less connection to property problems than before. It's a quasi game of hide and seek and really expecting for them to do their job but they don't. Don't judge the book by it's cover...it looks good, presents well but performance is another disappointing ,frustrating thing. read more

Horrible Horrible Horrible. I am convinced that no one actually works here. I have been calling for months about a serious safety issue in our building and the only phone number/email address they can give me is for someone that worked for the company in 2012. Every avenue is a dead end with this company. I have never spoken to the same person twice and I have never spoken to someone in person. There isn't even anyone that works at the front desk of our building. On the rare occasion there is someone there, it's at inconsistent hours and it's a new person every time. This company clearly does not care about their tenants and has no regard for their safety. If Barkan is the Management Company for a building you are considering moving into, DO NOT DO IT. read more

I'm a condominium board member and have been for approximately 20 years, 15 of those in my current home. We've had a few management companies (the industry is not known for great service), and Barkan was an order of magnitude worse than the others. I wish the rating system allowed negative scores. From now showing up for meetings, to not paying association bills, not visiting the building, etc. (and the list is long), the service was horrendous. They even failed to pay our insurance bill, causing owners to receive letters from lenders alerting them. The service degraded to the point where I talked with the president of Barkan (HQ in Baltimore), asking for help. Nothing changed. When a similarly sized condominium building a few blocks away was interviewing management companies, they contact me to ask why Barkan did not list my association as a reference since the Barkan sales pitch was good. After our discussion, they dropped Barkan from consideration. read more

Horrible property management firm. They managed our association and constantly sent out letters to residents for minor infractions... We believe that more letters were sent to homeowners in a 6 month period than number of homeowners we actually have in the community! The board finally was overwhelmed with complaints and fired Barkan from the management of our community. As a commercial client, I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

If I could give less than one star I would. This company is new to our condo and thus far they have been entirely impossible to contact and the property manager assigned to our building is the worst!! Unprofessional, liars and unaccountable to say the least. I'm hopeful they will not be around long as they have not shown their best thus far. Condo associations please BEWARE!! Oh and they have hired a bunch of misfits as our concierge staff....one guy used to work as the custodian, now he's answering phones and taking messages.... how RIDICULOUS!!! read more
