This was my first time at Barini and I couldn't be more pleased. I was looking for a reputable tailor to work on my Schott 613S jacket and after reading some of the glowing reviews here, I decided Barini was the place to go. The 613S is a thick steerhide leather motorcycle jacket that wears a bit stiff. When I brought it in, Gary took a look at the work needed to make the requested alterations and winced a little at the effort. I knew it would be a tough job, but Gary is the only person I would trust outside of the Schott factory (they previously shortened my sleeves) to work on my jacket. Fortunately, he agreed to do it and promised a fair turnaround. I picked the jacket up a few days ago and it now truly fits like a glove. The liner, the stitching, it all looks original and feels bespoke. I couldn't be more happy of the job Gary and his team did on my beloved jacket that I know will pass down through the generations. He replaced the leather section PERECTLY, good as new. EXTREMELY RUDE! I went there for the first time and will not be back. The gentleman took a glance at me and immediately took a very stern and rude tone. I was trying to ask questions and he would cut me off. I told him he was being very rude and that I can just take my business else where. My friend Jeff suggested this place to me when I explained my frustration at the inability to find an MC leather jacket that could fit me properly. He said I should find the closest thing and bring it in and Mr. Barini would turn it into a piece of art. As luck would have it, two weeks later I was in NYC and found a perfect fit, but it was tore up--and not in a good way. I brought it in and he said he'd have to replace all of the stitching, the front zipper, and the entire collar. I paid half up front, and a little over two months later he called me in to pick it up. It was completely revitalized, the new collar matched the older leather in every way except wear, and it felt rock solid compared to the rickety, fragile thing it once was. I bought a leather jacket in Florence, Italy, three years ago and was devastated last month when the zipper got caught on the lining and broke (it's even worse since I can't go back to visit/buy a new one). I researched and found this spot so I dropped it off and they confirmed that I needed a new zipper since some of the pieces were missing. Pricing was fairly reasonable and they said it would take a week and a half but had it ready in less than a week. I wish I could give more than a 5 star review. I came here to get my Girlfriend's leather jacket repaired and we both couldn't be more happy with our experience. Unfortunately my dog (who loves leather) managed to find her jacket and completely destroy the left cuff. He chewed through the lining, about 4 inches around the cuff, and 2 inches down the sleeve. We were certain there was no way to restore her most favorite and incredibly expensive leather jacket. I called around to several places and the ONLY shop to even consider it was Barini Leather. Gary has a pretty tough exterior and a no-bullshit attitude which I actually prefer. I came in a few days before Christmas and he told me he wouldn't have the jacket ready for a few weeks (sometime after the new year). I thought that was fair as it's the holidays. However, he finished the jacket EARLY and it was ready for pickup the DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS. My GF was out of town and I was able to surprise her with this amazing Christmas present because it was finished early. When he told me he would be able to repair it I was skeptical, but he assured me that he wouldn't take my business if he wasn't 100% sure he could do an excellent job. He is a perfectionist and the final result was proof: you simply can't tell the jacket was repaired. My GF is completely elated to have her favorite jacket back. read more

These days there aren't too many artisans left...true masters of their craft. Fortunately for us, we have Gary. If you truly want the best work done by someone who really knows what they're doing, look no further. Experience counts for a lot and you can tell that Gary has been doing this for a while. I recently had my second leather jacket altered here and the results were stellar. I'm not talking about a simple slice and dice; I'm referring to a complicated job where not only the sleeves need to be shortened, but the zippers removed and migrated up, all the while retaining their original length because for some reason designers these days seem to cater to the oh so omnipresent 6'4", 140 lb demographic when it comes to sizing and sleeve length. As was the case with the first leather jacket I brought to Gary, you couldn't even tell there was an alteration; the jacket looked like it came straight off the rack...an absolute seamless job. No...it's not cheap. But you get what you pay for and if you think I'm gonna bring my $1000 lambskin leather jacket to some hack job who's gonna turn it into beef jerky, YOU'RE NUTS. Pay the money. Love Gary and his collection of goods. He's one of the few people I know who repairs and alters leather clothing and other leather goods. Gary has always been helpful and obviously takes pride in his skills. He spent a long time with me, helping to choose a bag for my husband. He also carries a wide range of leather goods, but isn't custom making things as much as he used to..mostly small items like wallets, credit card holders, etc. But he did show me an amazing handbag he custom made from alligator skin a client provided. Gary's going to retire in a few more years, and his sons aren't interested in pursuing his craft, so don't delay going to him with your stuff that needs repairing. read more

I only trust my leather/suede alterations to Barini Leather! I'm a fashion snob so I like to buy designer things but my arms are just too dang short for most jackets. I found Barini Leather through Yelp and made the trek all the way there from West LA. So very worth it! I've gotten leather jackets with zippers shortened to perfection, Suede jackets with snaps altered... everything is perfect when they are done. I think the prices are reasonable for the work that they do, don't want to be penny wise and pound foolish with my designer stuff. They also do a great job of making custom belts. I had searched high and low for a thick, cream colored suede belt and couldn't find anything at LV, Ralph Lauren or Neiman Marcus. If you're looking for a leather tailor in the LA area, Gary is your man. He's the only person I trust with expensive leather pieces. Gary has done two alterations for me: 1) an expensive Saint Laurent leather jacket and 2) a soft calfskin biker leather jacket for my mother. In both cases, the attention to detail and quality of work was second to none. He tailored both to fit perfectly, with complicated procedures like cutting and moving zippers, tailoring the body, and adjusting sleeve and hip length. Both jackets looked like they were perfect factory when they were returned to me. His knowledge and familiarity working with leather is the kind that can only come from years and years of working with these materials at the highest level.
