I found my dream brown leather jacket at a thrift store, but it was in rough shape. The collar was completely destroyed and had multiple holes from wear. I brought it here because of all the amazing reviews, and I'm so glad I did! I called the day before and set a time to bring it over the next day. Hats off to Yelp because it was all of these glowing reviews of Gary Barini's masterful leather work that lead me to entrust him with my son's beloved hand-me-down nearly 50-year-old lambskin leather bomber jacket. The lining was shredding and the pockets were shot. The leather itself had multiple microtears and the jacket badly needed some TLC. When I contacted Gary, he couldn't have been nicer or more knowledgeable and so I shipped it down to him from Seattle. Gary went out of his way, tracking down a hunter green satin lining that my son had envisioned, sending me photos of samples during his search in various fabric stores. (Apparently finding that specific green wasn't as easy as I'd originally imagined! Mint? No thank you!) ) It was important to my son that the jacket maintained its vintage look, and Gary agreed. The final result? It is flawless and simply stunning. I can't recommend Gary more highly! read more

Mr. Barini had worked on all my leather jackets over the years. When he had his shop by studio city, to his place now, his work is amazing. A true leather master craftsman. From altering my sleeves in cowhide leather jackets, to a full on body tailor Schott perfecto jacket. I've brought jackets to him that have ripped and he's done magic. His work of not cheap and he charges accordingly because the dude is truly talented, but if you truly care about your leather goods, take them here. I took my wife's grandfather's motorcycle jacket...at least from the 1970s and possibly as old as the 1950s...to Gary and boy did it need a lot of work. A new lining, a new collar, frayed sleeve lining, many weak spots in the leather, and a split back seam. It wasn't cheap and he took about a month to do the work (which was entirely reasonable), but now it's a beautifully restored vintage jacket. I don't think anyone else in the region -- and very few people in the country -- do this kind of work with leather. I couldn't be happier! read more

My favorite Little Black Dress was resuscitated by Gary, the store owner. The LBD had pleather on the shoulders and down the front. The pleather started breaking down and flaking off since I've had this dress for years. I almost resigned myself to throwing away the dress. Wow wow wow wow. What a freakin pro!!! Well done, Gary. A couple months ago, I bought myself a nice Louis Vuitton briefcase after a promotion at work. It was a cool bag. My dog, who is actually quite well behaved locked herself in my bedrooms while I was at work (lol don't worry, she had access to patio and a very nice Alaskan king size bed to nap on...with the thermostat at a cool 72 degrees all afternoon. Also I didn't know she knew how to close the door). She's used to having the entire house to herself so I think she was scared an anxious to get out. I was working in my bedroom the evening prior and left my bag on the ground...needless to say, with high anxiety, she chewed up my new bag, breaking into the leather and destroying the zipper. I was so bummed when I found it. I considered tossing the bag out, just out of sight, out of mind. My boyfriend suggested I look got a pro to look at it and see if they could fix it. I didn't think it was possible but i humored him. Sad and bummed, I dragged my poor bag out Barini's leather and met with the Owner, Gary. Very nice guy and told me about his 20 years of experience. He explained what he'd do and that he'd do his best to repair it for a pretty reasonable price. He asked for about 30 days or so (rightfully so as his work is a piece of art) and I picked it up today. Dang, you can't even tell anything happened to it. I was doubtful that anyone could do anything to make it better but he did. I'm so so impressed and so happy. I guess I can stop giving my dog the silent treatment now. read more

Gary Barini is a leather expert. He is an artist and a professional. At this Ventura Boulevard shop in Studio City, you can purchase handmade purses, bags, clutches, and waist pouches, in a variety of colors and sizes. Gary just completely remade the interior of a handbag he made for me six years ago. It is unique, beautiful, and durable. I am not exaggerating when I say that I receive compliments every day on this purse! The interior is a beautiful red leather that looks like a smile. The exterior is black leather, and one side of the bag has a red rose made out of a red zipper with a green zipper for the stem. He also sells beautiful leather belts and other accessories. Be aware that all of his merchandise is handmade and therefore not cheap. Expect to spend some money here. But you will definitely get your money's worth. Thank you, Gary! read more

In addition to being an incredible artisan, Mr. Barini is a lovely man who takes great pride in his work. He's done simple repairs for me, like replacing all the hardware on a tried and true leather handbag that I've used for a decade. But the custom handmade crossbody purse he made for me entirely by hand from a pattern he created based on another Italian bag that belonged to my sister is much more special. I was able to choose all of the materials from his almost overwhelming selection of fine leathers in every color, texture and pattern you can imagine. My handbag is made of gorgeous and sturdy embossed leather and fully lined in an aubergine colored leather with gold hardware. Mr. Barini can repair, improve and/or design and create anything you want. He is extremely talented and kind. If you like quiet luxury, you'll love the process of purchasing a custom item. If my bag had a designer label on it I would've paid 5x as much and it probably wouldn't rival the quality of my Barini. read more

I highly recommend Barini Leather for leather alterations. I purchased what was supposed to be a custom-fit leather jacket online, and the measurements that I provided were way off. Mr. Barini to the rescue!! He fitted me for the jacket, and now it fits me like a glove. He moved zippers, decorative shoulder bands with snaps, took in the shoulders, arms and waist. I am very pleased with the finished product. There is no evidence of alterations being made. It looks brand new with all seams in tact.
