Dr. Abroon has all the qualities that are important to me in building a healthy doctor/patient relationship! At the top of my list is that Dr. Abroon is a good listener. He never rushes my appointment and always addresses my concerns, thoughts, opinions and viewpoint. For example, Dr. Abroon will take the time to read an article I clipped from a health newsletter on a subject I felt was pertinent to my care. Dr. Abroon is very knowledgeable, concerned for my well-being, will make referrals when necessary and follow up on my reports. Dr. Abroon is empathetic, compassionate and caring. The staff is always cheerful, efficient and polite. There are times I forget to mention something at my appointment and get upset with myself. But, I feel comfortable calling the office when I get home. I know that Dr. Abroon will return my call and with his calming voice say, "Alice, how are you? How can I help you?" These are the qualities that are important to me!

I was fired as a new patient for asking a question…read more I made a new patient appointment with Dr. John Abroon's office. My appointment was accepted and subsequently confirmed. A few hours after confirmation, as a matter of simple diligence, I reviewed Dr. Abroon's credentials as listed on-line and I called his office with a question. According to several published reports, Dr. Abroon graduated from the University of C.I.F.A.S. School of Medicine in the Dominican Republic. The school was closed by local officials in 1984 due to allegations of fraudulent medical degrees. These allegations were documented by the New York Times and other periodicals and were noted by the State of California. My question to the office concerned this chronology and the history of the institution from which Dr. Abroon graduated. I made no allegation that he was involved in the scandal or that his degree was invalid. I just asked since, in the world in which we live, patient self-advocacy is becoming increasingly important. After my question, the office called back and informed me that the Doctor no longer felt I would be a good fit for his practice. I asked to speak with the doctor so I could better understand, but after several attempts, I have given up. Again, in no way do I allege anything about the validity of Dr. Abroon's credentials. I just had what seemed like a very valid question - that frankly - any new patient should ask. It is unfortunate that rather than quell a patient's concern, I was dismissed for even daring to question.

He also chastised me and insisted I wasn't listening to him, and he was irritated I could not remember the exact months and dates of procedures when it was in the records in front of him. Not only was he unhelpful but as I was leaving, he told me what he thought I might have, and when I asked about it he told me to "look it up," since he had a meeting coming up. I looked up his diagnosis as soon as I was outside, and the symptoms had nothing to do with my condition. The dr. might have an encyclopedic knowledge, but when a patient comes to him with breathing issues, which are always terrifying, it would be great to have a kind, caring dr.

The Short Version:…read more He's a very arrogant and pompous person (just look at his picture). He basically told me he was right and every other doctor was wrong within the first 20 seconds. He never even saw my MRI, barely let give a history of the pain, didn't explain anything, and finally, tried to sell Botox to me without explaining any of the risks. He basically told me to look it all up myself and said to go to Botox.com...I wasn't born yesterday. I have trouble believing the other reviews on this guy because he was the worst doctor I have ever seen. The guy is full of himself and hes obviously in it for the money. The Long Version: This guy is the most pompous narcissistic person I have ever encountered. MY MRI shows herniated discs in my neck. All of the spine specialists I've seen have all agreed that the herniation is the most probably cause for my pain. My spine specialist is Robert Griffin and works at the hospital of special surgery...he is great!! Dr. Hutchinson let me speak about 5 seconds before he interjected with his diagnosis. He didn't give me the chance to tell him where the pain in my back was or any of the history. When he cut me off he asked if I had ever had pain in my head to which I responded yes. Again, he cut me off before I could tell him this only happened twice in the last 4 months. His diagnosis...migraine headaches....really?!?! You're a doctor; you're supposed to listen to your patient and understand the issue before you make an arrogant diagnosis. He was so sure of himself and I struggled to get even a few words out. After I convinced him I didn't have migraines he told me I had torticollis...I Google imaged torticollis when I got home ...I definitely do not have this. I think I would notice if my head was cocked ot the side all the time...He basically convinced me to lean my head in a certain direction for a min so he could make this diagnosis. By the end of the appointment everything made sense...he was trying to sell Botox. He told me I could take my time and research it when I got home and he gave me a website to do for my research... Botox.com!! GREAT PLACE to get non bias information on Botox. I obviously didn't use BOTOX.COM for my research. I instead got my information from medical journals and talked to my spine specialist about it. A common side effect of Botox is a pain and/or stiffness in the neck. This is because it can cause paralysis of the muscle. He never discussed any of the risks; he just kept telling me how great it works. He never gave me any other options either! When I asked what torticollis was, he told me to look it up!!! LOOK IT UP?!?! JUST TELL ME YOU'RE THE DOCTOR!! WTF AM I PAYING YOU FOR?!?! You can tell a lot about a man by his handshake and his screamed raging douche bag.I'll explain...A raging douche bag will have his palm facing down and parallel to the floor. Your palm is facing straight up. It was easily the most awkward and angering handshake I've ever had.

I made an appointment and they were able to fit me in after about 3 weeks (but my schedule was kind of crazy so that was partly my fault). When I arrived at the office I realized I had forgotten my insurance card at home :-( They were iffy to see me, but after about 20 minutes the receptionist was able to look up my information online and get me seen. I had to wait a while, as they were very busy, but it was okay. When they first brought me to the back they showed me into the Doctors actual office. I sat down and waited for Paul, MD to come in. He arrived after a few minutes and we had a 10 minute conversation about my family, medical history, any problems, and then my present and future concerns. He was really friendly and his demeanor was just very welcoming and put me at ease. After we chatted he called a nurse in and then she brought me to an exam room. I changed into my gown and then she took my vitals. She was super nice and friendly and we had a nice little conversation while she was doing everything. BEST PART: when she took my blood I didn't feel ANYTHING at all. She was the best blood-taker I have ever had! After a few more minutes Dr. Paul came in and examined me. He just did the usual and everything was normal. He said he would contact me by phone or email in the next few weeks with my blood results. It was about 4 days and I had an email from the Doctor with my results. Everything turned out perfect and I will definitely be returning to this doctor, and recommending him to anyone in need.

The ER down there told him his shoulder was broken and he should see an orthopedist right away as he would need surgery. Our GP recommended Dr. Cleeman and the amazing receptionist,Toni, in the Manhattan Ortho Astoria office was able to fit us in a couple days later. X-rays confirmed the shoulder was not only broken but it was shattered! Dr Cleeman said it was one of the worst cases like this he had ever seen. The ball was literally flipped over from the socket joint and was hanging upside down. YIKES. Rather than replacing the entire shoulder, most likely requiring future surgeries for upkeep, Dr. Cleeman felt he could repair the bones and put Humpty Dumpty back together again. And a couple days later, he did just that! After a very successful four hour surgery and a couple hours in recovery, hubs was home on the couch! At his follow up appointment a couple weeks later, he could already move the shoulder a bit and was recovering well. Dr Cleeman removed the bandages and I couldn't believe what we saw. What I forgot to mention earlier is that my husband has a half sleeve tattoo that goes up over his shoulder. It is very special to us as it has the US and Icelandic flags intertwined with a compass representing our paths in life that led us to each other (I am from Iceland originally). We had already accepted the fact that the tattoo would have to be cut for the surgery and Dr. Cleeman told us that the incision would go directly through the center of the Icelandic flag. But when he took off those bandages, we could hardly even tell where the incision had been made! Partly due to the glue they use now rather than exterior stitches, but mostly due to the fact that Dr Cleeman is a true artist and moved the incision place over a bit. He said putting the tattoo back together took almost as long as putting the shoulder back together but he he knew it was important to us. WOW! I literally had tears in my eyes. What an incredibly awesome and unexpected surprise!! It's about three months post surgery now and my husband is recovering so well and we couldn't be happier! Everything about our experience with Manhattan Ortho has been great! Toni has always been responsive and so helpful every time we have called and needed anything. They are both such caring people and I am so thrilled to be able to recommend them to anyone looking for an Orthopedist!!

This review is entirely separate from my experience with Dr. Craig Dushey. If I had to rate Dr…read more Dushey separately, he gets a 5/5 in my book. My experience with him was wonderful. He had excellent bedside manner, was very informative, and performed thorough tests while evaluating my knee. I genuinely felt cared for under his care. Unfortunately, this review is being written because of my experience with his PA, Catherine Keable. I found Catherine's behavior and attitude to be deplorable, especially given the field we work in. I normally don't write reviews, so naturally, it takes quite a lot for me to feel compelled to write one. In this case, however, I feel it's important to hold Catherine accountable. I called earlier today with one simple question: Had my MRI results been received ahead of my upcoming appointment? You answered my question, and I simply asked for clarification because I happened to be outdoors and missed a portion of what you had said. Your reaction was completely unprofessional and unbecoming of someone working in healthcare. You responded with, "Did you hear what I said? Did you hear any of what I said?" followed by additional disrespectful remarks. When I asked you to calm down so I could explain why I hadn't heard you clearly, you proceeded to hang up on me. Given the nature of how healthcare can be, I'd like to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you were having a bad day. However, that is in no way an excuse to treat a patient with such disrespect, especially one who was simply seeking clarification about their care. Patients deserve patience, professionalism, and basic courtesy. These are not unreasonable expectations. Do better.
