The food and service here is amazing. It is also very clean, which is a huge bonus in to me! Everyone is always very helpful and smiling. Well, this is a tough one because I really loved our waitress so much, but I don't even have a picture of the food because not only did the waitress put the order in wrong, ( which she apologized profusely), It took over an hour to get my food to me. By the time I got to the table, I was so hungry. I didn't even think to take a picture. Not only that, when my food got to me, it was cold and part of my food was missing When I asked about it, they said "oh I'm sorry we ran out of shrimp". Funny thing is they had gotten my order to begin with, I would've had some shrimp since my husband had a shrimp burrito. They did feel terrible and comped my meal, but not my favorite food experience. Also....the music was just so terrible. It was a bummer because it was a stunning evening and we wanted to hang out, but the musician was just not good. Beautiful weekend camping at Deschutes State Park. Traveled into The Dalles and stopped by the Barge View for lunch. Great outdoor patio, service was excellent and the food was superb! I enjoyed the Beet Salad and my hubby had the Fish & Chips. Excellent French fries. We shared the Kung Poe Calamari...unique, very good. Only negative is it's a pricey menu, but well worth it. read more

this place desperately needs Gordon Ramsey! We were not expecting too much- no fine dinning, but the place has a 4.4 on google so we thought we'd give it a try - Big mistake! We walked in and there was a very loud off key singer playing a guitar, it was hot so we had wanted to sit in the AC but there was no way to hear a conversation so we moved outside into the heat (yeah it was that off key and that loud that 90 degrees was a better option).... There were 3 of us and 2 of the entrees where just not at all in the realm of decent. We sent back the steelhead fish (burnt to a hot oil crisp) only to have a second one show up just as over cooked not even able to cut with a knife it was so dry with the outside hard. The pulled pork nachos for some unknown reason were smothered in thousand island dressing (which isn't mentioned in the description) again not eaten....My turkey wrap was good but I ended up giving half my wrap to a friend who's meal was uneatable. The waitress Alyssa, was very considerate and more than a bit embarrassed about the quality of the food she had to serve. When we weren't eating the entrees (it was obvious why!), she asked her manager to at least take one entrees off the bill - but he (Matt the manager) refused and instead offered a 10% discount- geeze thanks Matt. My advice is AVOID- go to Taco Time at least there you'll get a standard mediocre food where here there is no bottom to the standard- just a poorly done hot mess that I wouldn't feed to our dog (we didn't take what we didn't eat)- Please know I don't in general write reviews of restaurants if they are just so-so, it's a hard industry to make a go of, but this place is beyond just so-so- it's bad so poorly done and does not deserve to survive the lack of care or ability of the kitchen read more

The Bargeway Pub has one of the best views in The Dalles. The view however couldn't save my mediocre PB2 burger. Both the candied bacon and burger were overcooked to the point I just couldn't finish it. My family had the fish and chips which I tried and thought they were ok. It may have just been an off night at the grill but if you want a great view and an ok meal I would say go ahead and order the fish and chips, a margarita and sit outside to enjoy the view. read more

We found this oasis looking for a food/beverage stop while driving through. The menu was elevated pub food, and we sampled quite a few items -- all to our delight. Members of our party had adult beverages (they have a full bar & huge list of beers on tap). We also enjoyed pulled pork nachos, the Baja burger with truffle fries, naked wings with sauces (parmesan garlic, honey cajun, chipotle), and regular fries. All dishes were served at the same time, and were hot & delicious. Our server was friendly, attentive, and answered all of our questions easily. She made sure our beverages were refilled, and took great care of our party. The property is unique, with an expansive area for outdoor seating, and pets were enjoying hanging out with their peoples on this sunny day. There is a live music schedule; would be a great venue. The interior dining area had a perfect mix of bar, booth, low table, and high table seating. We stopped on a Sunday afternoon, so their many screens had football games. They have Sunday Ticket, and lots of game day specials! Our stop was refreshing ... and we highly recommend this pub for both locals & travelers looking for an oasis!!!! read more

This place is just not good. Food was bad, service was bad, margaritas were bad. The wagyu burger was greasy and had some detritus from the grill all over it. Bun was soggy. Tomatoes were the tepid red of unripe watermelon. Fries were from a bag, and not enough on the plate. The runner dumped the food in front of me and tried to scurry off without asking if I needed anything else. Hey! I said, how about some ketchup please. She never returned. We had the (not featured on their website currently) artichoke dip appetizer & it was phenomenal! It was warm and super creamy, cheesy served with seasoned tortilla chips. Our entrees were the Lobster Mac & the (also not on website) pork tenderloin sandwich. The Mac was very flavorful but dry so I asked the waiter for more cheese sauce. He apologized & promptly returned it with the perfect amount of cheese sauce! The pork tenderloin was SO large, it literally hid the bottom bun! The coating was very thick & crunchy. I asked a local for recommendations for lunch. She recommended a pizza place and had a not so positive recommendation for the Bargeway Pub. We did not want pizza and I should have done better at picking up the negative vibe. Parking was easy and we were seated immediately outside at a partially shaded table. We placed our orders of fish and chips and bacon jam burger. After 15 minutes our table was in full sun; but, a table in the shade was vacant. We move to the shaded table. The view of the river was ok; but, mostly obscured by bushes. We figured that we had been waiting close to 45 minutes when our food was served. My wife was warned that her plate was hot because it had been under the heat lamp too long. The coleslaw with my fish and chips was very warm (I suspect that it too had been under a heat lamp too long). The food was excellent; however, it did not make up for the rest of the experience. We plan on playing tourist at The Dalles again soon; however, we will take the pizza recommendation more seriously. read more

Beware of the exploding "ketchup"! Apparently, this establishment attempts to make its own "ketchup". I put quotes around it because it tastes like nothing more than tomato paste (and bland tomato paste, at that). More to the story... They store these squeeze bottles of "ketchup" in a cooler that is cold enough to freeze the "ketchup". This is a known fact confirmed by talking with two of the waitstaff. So, I ordered the wagyu beef cheeseburger and fries. Soon thereafter our waitress brought a squeeze bottle of their "ketchup". Did they say it was partially frozen? No. So, I attempted to put some "ketchup" on my hamburger. I squeezed and a little came out, albeit a little "chunky". If I had tested for temperature I would have seen that that "chunky-ness" was due to it being frozen. But, I thought, "Wow! This is SOOO homemade that it still has some texture to it!" I squeezed just enough so that the "chunks" slowly exited the bottle. Well, once that first little frozen bit exited, the bland liquidy stuff behind it exploded out. I covered my hamburger, my French fries, my wife, and myself with a fine spray of this bland concoction. I got the worst of it. I was covered from the collar of my shirt, across to both sleeves, and down to the bottom of my shirt. (I even found a drip on the inside of my right calf later that night). I went to find a waitress. I didn't find ours, but I did find one. I told her what happened, and her reply was, "Huh. Is that still happening? I thought they got that cooler fixed a long time ago." She handed me a couple of napkins and turned her back to continue entering info on the computer. No "Oh, no! Here let me get you a clean, wet bar towel!" Just napkins and disinterest. Our regular waitress arrived and confirmed that they KNEW for a while of this "ketchup" freezing and that they thought it would thaw with the heat outside. She then asked if I wanted any "store bought" ketchup. It was then that I looked around and saw that we were one of TWO tables outside with this "ketchup". Everyone else had store bought ketchup! Side note: My wife's BBQ Chicken Salad was obscenely large. It could have EASILY fed 3-4 people. She took a couple bites and said that what wasn't limp and wilted tasted "funny" (i.e., the avocados were "rubbery", tomatoes tasteless...etc), but the chicken was OK. No salad dressing was provided, too. The waitstaff failed to do anything other than a couple of paper napkins. In fact, after I told our regular waitress what happened, when she said this exploding "ketchup" was known to management, I didn't see her again until she brought the bill. Kind of put the "cuss" in "Customer Service". Two bites of my wagyu burger (actually, my "ketchup" burger with a little supposed wagyu beef thrown in), and a couple of bites from my wife's family-of-four salad and we left. Kind of an expensive "meal". When we were deciding where to go, my wife said there were two brew pubs in the area; One with a view (this one) and one that was higher rated but no real view. We both ordered a Wagyu burger and they were well done and pretty dry with almost too many condiments on them. It tasted fine, but for a Wagyu burger, it shouldn't be dry. Also curious why folks aren't asked the level to which they their burgers cooked or if everything is well done? Drinks are good, service is good. Ordered two entrees. An Italian sub and chicken dinner. The sub was served on a bun so large it resembled a small loaf of bread and had to be eaten with a knife and fork. The melted cheese looked like melted plastic and was inedible. The chicken entree was so dry it should have been served with a cactus. When we complained we were told they had given us the wrong entree, came back with a second dish that was just as bad. Don't understand the four star rating. My friends and I were very excited to try this place and we ended up being slightly disappointed. In sum, the food is not worth the price. Aside from the hot cider, nothing we ordered was super bad, but none of it was great either. The highlights were the fried cauliflower and strawberry basil mocktail. We have been excitedly waiting for months to eat at Bargeway. It was a nice sunny afternoon for a group of 5 to eat outside. I was anticipating a long wait time because of staff shortages due to Covid and it being a Saturday afternoon, which was completely fine. We waited 20 minutes for a table and then well over an hour for our food. The bummer was the food that arrived. Kids Mac and Cheese that was literally Kraft from a box for $6.95? My husband who literally NEVER complains about food was appalled by the nachos. I understand that things happen but there has got to be some type of quality control to prevent this. Unfortunately there were two plates of these nachos ordered for our table and both looked like the picture shown. The bummer was that someone working here saw two dishes like this and thought they were ok. The 1 is for the waitress being nice and the other is for the nice seating atmosphere. read more

My partner and I go to the Bargeway sort of frequently because it's never over-crowded, the food is pretty good, situated beautifully next to the river, and the prices - well, lunch for two now is almost $100 with tip no matter where we go. That includes drinks. The place is bright, never feels cramped, and the wait staff so far have been attentive, positive attitudes, and listen well. I'm pescatarian so pubs typically don't have many fish dishes - if they did, it would only make this place better - I'd give it five stars. read more
