Lay Bare uses only sugar wax, which I find to be much less painful than the old school hot beeswax. I've also gotten my eyebrows threaded here, which is very quick, easy, and cheap! I found this place after searching yelp for a new salon. The previous lady I went to retired and her replacement was not great. This salon was close and convenient to my home so I thought I'd give it a shot. My appointment was for a Brazilian wax and was scheduled with Jenny. She was so cool, nice, knowledgeable and talked to me the whole time. She made me feel so comfortable. Ever since I moved to Studio City I've been looking for a close place to get my eyebrows threaded and I've finally found my place! I called at 10:30 on Sunday and was able to make an appointment for 11:15. The technician who serviced me was incredibly sweet and chatty and was very good about giving me exactly what I asked for in regards to my brows! I will say that the flier on the front page of the establishment is wrong. Their prices have gone up a bit (now $10 for eyebrow threading for a woman instead of $8 like the front page flier suggests), but seeing as the location is so convenient and the service was spectacular, I didn't mind at all paying the extra $2. I am definitely going to look into using Lay Bare for other services as well. read more

Lucky me she was covering for someone because she was FANTASTIC! What a great, funny, professional, young woman. I've done laser hair removal, but because I'm a natural blonde, it didn't get everything (nudge nudge wink wink). I've done the hot wax Brazilian several times in the past, so this was my first experience with sugaring. I read someone else's review and she said she thought sugaring was more painful than hot wax. I politely disagree. I thought the sugaring was much less painful. Regardless, cute little set up. Got me in and out very quickly. Again, Veronica was fantastic. Lay Bare is a great place. The person who waxed me did a great job and was very professional. I bought a package of two Brazilians. I did not read the fine print. My bad. The package expires shortly after you purchase it. So if you end up shaving instead of growing it out just know your package will more than likely expire on you before you can grow it out long enough to wax. The expires within a few months. Don't forget to read the fine print if you buy a package! I didn't and now wasted my money. Just for the record, I did call and talked to the person who answers the phone. There was no concern or option given to me. My suggestion is to make sure to read the fine print. read more

Five stars is actually not enough and here's why: 1) It was reasonably priced (please keep it that way). 2) It was superb and thorough work 3) Staff that I encountered were wonderful 4) Ruth was an absolute delight 5) Finally, you did not make an Middle Eastern guy leave in pain. I did not know that the salon only did sugaring, as I have tried it before and was too harsh. Even though I was nervous, I do NOT regret the sugaring this time because it was thorough and did not hurt as much as before. Ruth offered breaks, reminded to breathe and distracted with conversation like a pro. So for guys wanting to remove unwanted hair, you'll be okay here. It will burn a bit only during the wax, but it is worth the cleanliness, thoroughness and sugaring is better than regular wax. The more overdue you are on a wax, obviously the more it will hurt.
