I am a frequent customer of the state Boise location, but this is my first visit to the overland…read morelocation. This location is considerably smaller than the state location, not to mention, hidden away in the center. It still has a homey vibe with leather couches, rustic tables and a beautiful wooden bar top area. There were two employees hustling the best they could with a consistent steady line of customers. With this location being smaller, it does get a little cluttered at the ordering register. Unfortunately, my favorite bagel egg sandwich was not available as they were out of egg patties by 11am. At least the Asiago bagels were available and I bumped it up with herb cream cheese. Also got an iced Mexican mocha. Food and drinks did take a while longer to come out, understandably so. I will say that the Mexican mocha was incredibly well balanced and flavorful...much better than the state location. The bagel was toasted, but the outside was a little burnt. The smear of cream cheese was a lot...so much so, that I had to get a knife and take over half of it off (note to self: easy cream cheese or on the side when ordering). Seating outside was nice but the patio was small. Tough to seat 4 people inside when 2 people take the only 4-seater table to work.

Stopped by their drive through and got their cappuccino and lox bagel and both were really good…read more They even gave my pup a little dog treat and he loved it! Will definitely stop by here more often! Everyone was so friendly!

Two enterprising young women are owners of this gem of a popular West Bench neighborhood gathering…read morespot that they created in what was an old dump of a 1950's era strip mall space and funded in part with crowd sourcing. Being curious since they opened this in Fall'ish 2024 and finding myself in the neighborhood, this was a destination stop for my husband and me when we went in about 11:30 on a weekday for coffee and a nosh. Pride of ownership shines in the clean and funky feeling interior and it is clearly popular because it was full, almost every seat, of people that seemed from the neighborhood, including a number of parents with young children. They advertise this as coffee and market, but I honestly didn't notice the market part, in that things for sale didn't jump out at me. That may have been because I was just trying to navigate to a seat in and out in the crowded space. THE MO: Coffee and the limited menu for food is ordered at the counter, carry to your seat and bus your own when finished. Although we were the only people at the counter and there were two people in the kitchen, it took quite some time for someone to come to take the order, although once someone finally saw us, they were pleasant, if not welcoming, in taking the coffee order and then again when my hubby went back to order pastries to go with it. MENU: Coffee, other beverages and a very small option of eats is listed behind the counter and on a paper menu there. Options included soup of the day and Gaston's bakery pastries. There were some breakfast sandwiches by local provider Poppyseed Bakery in the fridge section, we weren't told about them but seeing them when passing by the fridge on a trip to the loo, asked if they could be heated and were told they could be. We chose a couple of pastries ($5.50 each) and were reminded why we seldom buy Gaston's products for being too buttery and one note. The cortado ($4) were good. I noticed a woman at the table across from us who was sipping a beverage and eating what looked like a sandwich she had carried in. I don't know if that is part of allowable stuff or not. The pottery used for all of their coffee service, ours and the mugs at other tables, is great. AMBIANCE: They did an admirable job here of making this light and bright and just funky enough with pride of ownership and loving care in maintenance sparkling through. Seating includes a few level in, not step up, booths along one wall, a sofa and chairs near the front and many standard height tables and chairs (maybe too many when all full as getting to seat is tough) and a play area for kids in the corner. It had far less comfortable 'breathing room' space than I anticipated from photos. But I didn't take interior photos to post because I think it is rude to do that when lots of people are going to be in them who maybe don't want to be. ;-) LOO: There are two and both are uni and sparkling clean with great murals on the wall and good plumbing fixtures. My husband even pointed out the "cool" sink. Both are ADA compliant so kudos to them for that. (Yes, it is law and code but you'd be astounded by how many ignore both.) ACCESSIBILITY: One ADA parking spot right outside the door. (There are too few spots for the parking lot but that is not the coffee shop owners' failure. That is the lot owner's issue.) Level in the door. All on one floor. The tables would probably work for a wheelchair user to roll under. But it would be near impossible, based on my experience yesterday (I have had multiple sclerosis since age 20 and sometimes use a wheelchair) for a wheelchair user to get between tables and chairs for a clear path of travel to get to seating or the loo.

This joint is a lot smaller than the two I have previously been to. It's about half the size of the other two so to me it's more for drive thru business than it is to chill and hang out. Much like the other location off Ustick, there was a colorful wall that added such a fun vibe to the place. There were a couple tables to hang out at. I do appreciate how big the counter is! It's inviting and allows a nice space for you to order your drink. As much as I wanted to grab another delicious pumpkin spice chai, I decided to go with my normal. I snagged a small iced americano with sugar free white chocolate and cream. My daughter grabbed a small iced lime and kiwi fuel energy drink. The sweet gal behind the counter got our orders squared away and got to working on them. We hung out at one of the small tables while our drinks were getting made. It did take a minute cause there were a couple drive thru orders. But our drinks were made in no time and enjoyed them for a bit at the table. My daughter's drink was ready first and of course I had to try it. It was a fun green color. The Kiwi and lime added a clean fruity taste the the fizzy energy drink. Energy drinks aren't my thing but it was tasty. My americano came out shortly after hers. It was the perfect shade of coffee. You can tell there was enough cream to espresso. It wasn't watered down and it had a nice amount of ice. I did add a packet of sweetner cause I just needed it to be a tad sweeter. It was perfect! It was much needed after running around all afternoon. I have been to three different Black Rocks in the last two weeks and they have all been great! This little joint is right next to my husband's work so it will be an easy place to hit up right before I drop off his lunch. I appreciate the convenience of this joint being right off Fairview. They pushed out such a great cup of coffee for my today. I look forward to coming again soon!

I was trying to kill two birds with one stone. Get my afternoon caffeinated beverage and check out this new local coffee joint. Walking in, this place is bright and inviting. I was instantly greeted by a beautiful smile and hello. I headed to the counter to check out the drink menu. I told the gal behind the counter I wanted to wait for my daughter to come in so we can order together. She was chill about it and let my daughter and I take our time. After we checked out the menu, I got myself my normal afternoon drink. An iced americano with sugar free vanilla and room for cream. My daughter got a peach and strawberry lotus energy drink. While our drinks were being prepared, I got to check out the venue. They have yummy looking baked goodies in the display case. A shelf filled with vintage coffee cans and plants. I adore the creativity they put into the shelf. The back wall is a stunning painting of a coffee plant. Whoever painted that wall did a fantastic job! My coffee looked dark and rich before I added my half and half. I knew that drink was going to be strong and flavorful! The espresso wasn't watered down at all. I added my half and half and a packet of sweetener. Taking one sip of my drink jolted me. You can taste the bitterness of the coffee. But it also had the right amount of sugar free vanilla in it as well. With the cream and sweetener, it was absolutely a great cup of coffee! I never caught the barista's name but she was super sweet. We talked about my transplant and my recovery from it. She was engaged and genuine. I appreciate that she was real and honestly involved in our conversation. It wasn't generic small talk. I wish this coffee joint is closer to me. Unfortunately they are on the other end of town. I would stop here every morning if I could. Everything about this shop is great. Plenty of seating, chill vibe, big windows for lighting and a dope barista behind the counter. If I'm ever in the other end of town, I most definitely will stop in top grab a drink.

If you've never had espresso made from freshly roasted beans sourced this intentionally and prepared with real skill, this place is absolutely worth stopping in. I've been waiting for a close, privately owned espresso café like this since moving to Boise in 2008 -- and Spoken finally delivers. After a full month of coming here regularly, I can confidently say this IS the espresso, with intention. Spoken Coffee works directly with the family who owns and roasts the coffee beans, no middleman. The green beans are roasted by that family. The time from roast to cup is noticeably short -- and it shows in every drink. The freshness is unmistakable. The espresso is clean, smooth, and beautifully balanced, without the bitterness or dullness you get from beans that have been sitting around. Their mocha is exceptional as well -- the chocolate they use is perfectly matched to the roast, enhancing the coffee rather than overpowering it. Easily the best mocha I've had anywhere. The baristas are longtime professionals who clearly know their craft. Shots are dialed in, milk art is consistently beautiful, and they take their time with each drink while still being warm and approachable. The space is comfortable and thoughtfully laid out, with plenty of seating including quieter, more private spots. There's no drive-thru, but parking is easy and plentiful, so it's not an issue. Food options round it out nicely: muffins, bagels, homemade breakfast burritos, and a family banana bread recipe that feels genuinely homemade -- not like something pulled from a freezer.
