Both Tulmeadow and Lacroix's made @cticecreamtour's Top 15 CT Creameries. My original reviews for both Tulmeadow and Lacroix's were both good btw. I just didn't initially connect with the flavors I tried in the way that I did with my other CT favorites. Since those initial reviews, everything I tried at each has been a banger. At Tulmeadow, I recently had Red Raspberry Chocolate Chip, Marshmallow Toasted Cornflake, Chocolate Raspberry Raspberry Curd and the best flavor I've had this year -- Double Raspberry Crumbcake. The flavors all popped. The use of intensely flavored raspberry curd in a couple of the ice creams was next level. The colors were right on. The texture was top tier. Service was friendly and the farm setting adds to the experience. Tulmeadow is 5 Stars and I'm upgrading my earlier review.

I stopped in the first entrance which was not correct; it's on the Locust road entrance. For a small basket, it was $15. Parking was ample and NBC news was even there the day I went. There was a booth and friendly people working there. The field was large. I went the first week it opened and there were plenty of strawberries. The strawberries were so good, almost like candy. It was super fresh; I don't want to buy strawberries from a grocery store anymore! The kids enjoyed picking them and so did I. Definitely worth a visit!

Now a retired dairy farm, Castle Hill Farm was once the second largest supplier of dairy products in Fairfield County. In spite of the farm's retired status, the Paproski Family work hard to preserve their 100+ acres through continuing the production of hay and corn fields, growing Christmas trees and seasonal vegetables. In addition to their Farm Stand, Castle Hill Farm also has a petting zoo, hayrides, a Sunflower Stroll, a Corn Maze, a Pick-Your-Own Pumpkin Patch, and other various attractions at different times throughout the year. The farm is also available to book for events such as weddings and baby showers. My family and I recently visited Castle Hill Farm to see their Sunflower Stroll. First we stopped off in their farm stand which was filled with all sorts of fresh vegetables such as tomatoes, corn, peppers, squash, cucumbers, and even local honey. We decided to purchase some delicious looking Graffiti Eggplant as well as a handmade candle that had an intoxicating vanilla aroma. Afterwards we headed into the Sunflower Stroll. Our son had so much fun looking at all of the pretty flowers and pointing out all of the bees. Co-owner Stephanie Kearns told us about other things the farm will be offering in the coming months, including hayrides, the pumpkin patch, and other Fall Fun activities. Once you arrive you'll know you're at the right place when you see the giant backwards "EGGS" sign on the front of the red barn. I started by going inside their Egg Room and Farm Store, which is not very big, but does sell farm-fresh eggs, local honey, jams, pork and grass-fed beef, etc. They also have a lot of merchandise/souvenirs with their backwards "EGGS" logo. While you're inside, say hi to the birds, guinea pigs, and baby chickens that are near the register. After looking around the farm store, I went outside to check out the petting zoo. Admission is $8.00, with children under 2 and seniors over 80 being free. You can also buy a cup of grain for $2.00 to feed the animals, or a bucket for $5.00. Flamig Farm has a fairly extensive petting zoo, with pigs, goats, donkeys, sheep, alpaca, llamas, horses, cows, emus, chickens, geese and ducks, and more! You can pet and feed most of the animals, who were very friendly! Keep in mind that the petting zoo is only open from April until mid-November, 9am-5pm. Dogs are also not permitted on the farm unless they are certified Service Dogs with proper paperwork. The farm also offers pony rides for kids on Saturdays/Sundays from 11am-3pm, April through November, weather permitting. It's $5.00 per ride, with an 80-pound weight limit. Tractor rides are also available by reservation, or during the fall on weekends from 11am-3pm, weather permitting. $5.00 per person, and under age 2 is free. During the month of October, the farm offers a "Haunted Walkthrough," and during December they have visits with Santa Clause. Make sure to check their website for dates/hours and to buy tickets in advance. The only staff member I really interacted with was when I bought my ticket to the petting zoo, but she was friendly. Overall Flamig Farm is a great spot to spend an afternoon and make some new animal friends. I would highly recommend checking it out!
