    The apples for sale
    Ana B.

I stopped by the Lost Acres Orchard the other day because I was in the mood to be outside on this crisp fall morning. This is such a beautiful place, the land is filled with apple trees. They currently aren't allowing visitors to pick the apples on their own, but you can buy the pre picked bags of their apples. That kind of takes the fun out of the experience of going to an orchard. I stopped by at around lunch time. They have their outside balcony if you will, which can only seat a small group of guests. It's so beautiful here, on a sunny day in the fall. You can see the apple trees, hear the birds chirping and have a relaxing start to your day! I got a coffee, that's it. There's no flavors, no iced coffee, no latte or cappuccino, just coffee. And it was delicious, strong and tasty! I also got a bowl of yogurt topped with apple crisp and granola. They have all kinds of desserts that they make with all their apples. This was light, and sweet just enough with the apple and the granola. Yum! I truly enjoyed my time at the Lost Acres Orchard, it is such a beautiful place, it feels like you're in their home. However, if they allowed pick your own apples, this would easily be a five star review.

This is a cute little spot under a roof with seating for about 20.

What a cool spot! My family who was visiting from HI and FL (but also has family in CT) suggested a rainy Sunday meet up around noon at this orchard. Naturally, I looked this joint up on Yelp, Facebook and elsewhere. I was excited as the food and baked goods really sounded special. Lost Acres accompanied our party of 13 easily and Jackson took great care of us. I will say, our group was having a little reunion and he did a great job of wrangling us into ordering great food and non-alcoholic beverages (iced tea, lemonade). To say he was patient would be an understatement. He even entertained us with the names and relations of the various cute cats around the building, and took some nice group pics of us. I had the grilled cheese with tomato soup and it was excellent, perfect for a rainy day. Many of the folks in my party opted for this choice. My wife had a turkey, stuffing, cranberry, cheese panini, that she devoured. The little ones had a freshly made cheese pizza and the other adults had various sandwiches. They did provide a dessert menu that was really sweet sounding. I wish I snapped a pic but it had a blueberry sundae with maple whipped cream, apple crisp, homemade ice cream sandwich and at least 10 other items. I bought an apple dumpling/blossom and an raspberry oat square (no nuts, a must for me) but haven't tried them yet. In summary: Cool spot-I imagine they'd be slamming if it wasn't rainy. Friendly people, the kitchen staff was kind, curious as to where we were from, and also told me that the amazing smell inside was (currently) granola. Quality food, nary a complaint from our group. Go.

The parking lot was full when we arrived but there was plenty of room in the orchard - it didn't feel overwhelmingly busy like you tend to see at other orchards this time of year. A decent-sized area was roped off for picking. Coming with small children, it was nice that it was a very short walk to the trees. We picked three bags of McIntosh apples ($8 for the small bag I believe) and some weren't picture perfect - brown spots, but I believe the spots are only cosmetic. Inside we grabbed some blackberry jelly, rosemary bread and cider. There were a nice selection of pies, other baked goods and some soup in the fridge. Looks like it would be awesome to enjoy a meal with a view of the orchard - some were doing that and it looked very relaxing. Next time! The staff were friendly. I would go back - I liked that it didn't feel crowded and McIntosh are my favorite.

This was a charming place. We stopped in after a wine tasting down the road. This is a very small eatery with homemade breads and quiche, etc. I ordered the curry carrot soup and it was delicious. We ate on the wrap around porch. Servers were super friendly. The homemade pies at the counter looked to die for but I showed some self restraint. I'd love to return for a dessert some time.

A woman with sunglasses on her head is holding a young child in her arms outdoors on a sunny day. The child is wearing an orange hoodie and appears to be looking down. Other people are visible in the background, along with a red building, a white tent, and a grassy area. The sky is clear and blue.

Family friendly fun spot that has a cool little farm store with locally made non-perishables and baked goods, apple picking by the bag, hay rides, and a solid lunch of wraps and sandwiches! Great activity for a weekend during the fall, and you can enjoy the foliage during your drive.

A nice pretty place to hang out and partake in a variety of activities. Want to buy a few bags or baskets of apples or veggies? Sure you can, they are all over the place. Want to buy a nice lunch? They have a plethora of choices and menu selections. Want to buy some pies or macaroons or apple fritters or breads or jellies or all things gourmet? Gotcha covered. Want to take a wagon ride out to the orchards and pick your own apples? They have a cool wagon ride that will take you out to the orchards and delight every member of your family. Its a real nice throwback kind of a place way out in the country. Go and enjoy it. The apples are delicious.

With a bit of time on our hands before Lost Acres Vineyard's tasting room opened, this past Saturday, my husband and I traveled about a mile down the road to check out Lost Acres Orchard. Best known around as a pick your own apple orchard, they also grow and sell peaches during the summer (although they are not pick your own). Unfortunately we did not come at a time of year when either was available for picking or purchase, but we were able to visit their farm stand that sells a variety of not only canned fruits and vegetables, jams, maple syrup but a bakery case containing a varying array of freshly baked breads and desserts. Picked up some apple butter and pickled asparagus both of which are sitting in my kitchen waiting to be opened. Both the orchard and farm stand have been around for many, many years but over the last year, Lost Acres Orchard has expanded and now includes a small restaurant open air restaurant. Their monthly changing "Porch Menu" includes a variety of salad, sandwich, soup and snack options all of which are served with a garnish of fresh fruit, a great alternative to the standard potato chip option normally offered. We had already eaten but could not, after perusing the mouth watering pies and dessert bars, purchase something "for the road". I got a piece of Strawberry Rhubarb Coffee Cake and my husband get some type of pecan bar. I cannot speak of the pecan bar as it "disappeared" before I had a chance to ask, but the Strawberry Rhubarb Coffee Cake was delightful. A moist cake with hunks of rhubarb and a brown sugar topping that balanced the flavor of the rhubarb, it gave me the pick me up I needed later that afternoon. I wish we would have known about Lost Acres Orchard and their "Porch Menu" prior to coming, but for those in the area it's a great place to stop and pick up a picnic lunch for those on their way to Lost Acres Vineyard or even stop in, relax and have a bite while admiring the views of the orchard.

Frittata, pea soup and fresh fruit.

They offer German white hardneck garlic, seed garlic, garlic bulbs, and garlic braids. The farm stand is in an old tobacco barn. I went a couple times and thought it was awesome. But the end of their season comes with a fantastic bonus for anyone that can get over to West Granby before October 12. That bonus is as many flowers as possible that you can cut and take home from their acres of flower farms. For Free. We saw people out there today with shopping bags, and laundry baskets scooping up their share of gorgeous flowers. Although some of the flowers (especially the sunflowers were way past peak), rest assured there were a ton of gorgeous fresh flowers representing every color of the rainbow still available. We cut and took home enough to fill three vases, of which we kept one and donated the other two to the local Senior Center to brighten the desks of two administrators. So, if you are in the area and have a hankering for some free flowers, set your navigation system to West Granby and enjoy. Just do it before October 12.

Ann & Ted and Deb & Paul are the propitiators of this quaint, unassuming, and GPS required Farm. This was my first visit, but one of many annual pilgrimages for my wife and her immediate family over many years. Ann took a call this morning from my wife asking if Berries were still available. Ann offered that they only had two twenty pound boxes of fresh and four more twenty boxes of fresh frozen from this years crop. The season was shorter this year, about only 2-3 weeks long due to mild drought and heat wave. Time was not to be wasted we hopped into the Road Chariot and arrived within an hour. Ann was at the helm and we met Paul (maybe Ted) on is way out, with a cheek full of berries and blue fragment of one on a tooth, which was noticed when he brightly greeted our arrival with a grin. The Berry Barn, old and well weathered from many years. The equipment and processing area a must see, it took me back to my youth in Maine visiting many wild Blueberry farms. Their price this year for twenty pounds $70, but think of it as only fractions of a penny for these small, flavor filled, and hard to find sweet treats. After all it was also a tough season for the Sussmann's and I tip my hat to their long lineage farming this spread of land!
