I am glad we have a new peri-peri chicken place in the area! Barcelos Guildford just opened this weekend and I knew had to check it out! My guest and I ordered 2 x DOUBLE (LEG+THIGH), with 2 sides each. Chicken flavours - Tangy Lemon and Mild Peri Sides - Peri Fries, Rice, Coleslaw, Baked Potato As a first time visitor, we were glad there were no people behind us as it took us a few minutes to review the menu and understand how the process works. Guests order their food at the cashier first, pay, and then go to your seat of choice. The staff will then bring your food to the table. We liked how spacious the restaurant is! Lots of big tables good for groups, and the dimmed lighting gives that intimate atmosphere. The first staff to help us at the cashier and I didn't understand each other well, but fortunately, the senior staff behind the counter was quick to sense this and took our order instead. This was much appreciated - it was our first time in the restaurant, after all, and we had to make sure we get the items we want accordingly. The food was really good and priced reasonably as well! We loved the chicken! Both Tangy Lemon and Mild Peri were flavourful and rich. The chicken had that smoky taste inside, and had the rich peri-peri taste outside. We also loved that there's a bit of a crispy texture to the grilled skin. Perhaps next time, I'll try the Veri Peri to get more spiciness in the chicken though. For the sides, the coleslaw was the highlight. It was delicious! Serving size was good too. There's enough coleslaw for my guest and I to take home at the end of our meal. The staff were helpful and quick as we asked for containers to take home some left over chicken and sides. I noticed there were paper boxes (containers) in the cashier area, which was why I was a bit taken aback when they gave us a plastic bag and styro containers for our to-go items. Perhaps later, I hope the restaurant would use their paper boxes and a paper bag instead for this purpose - this way they're using plastic less. I look forward to coming back here and having more peri-peri chicken in the next few months!

Flame grilled chicken meal with Portuguese tarts. The chicken was tender and juicy. You get that charcoal flavour from every bite of the chicken. Fries were ok and the tarts were just too sweet. Great customer service. How is it compared to Nando's? Well, there is no need to compare between the moon and the sun. They shine when it's their time.

Good service. Had the chicken pita. Requested spicy and they delivered. From order to delivery of the food - 10 minutes.

It is, as others have said, a neighborhood grocery store / cafe that is unmistakably and authentically Portuguese. Its name, Cafe Algarve, refers to the beachy area in the south of Portugal. However, a poster map of Baixa Pombalina, the Baixa district of Lisbon rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake under the direction of the Marques de Pombal, will be looking at you from the cash register. Locals coming from Portugal definitely frequent this business, close to the intersection of Broadway and Commercial Drive, and many speak in their native language. The owners and the patrons are very friendly. One should stop by to try a pastry and some coffee ... or tea. Also, if you've ever tried, and liked, Sumol, the Portuguese soft drink which comes in orange, pineapple, and passion fruit, you can buy it here. You can also buy other groceries. I recommend coming in the morning for the pastry and coffee. The pastries are pasteis de nata, the traditional Portuguese custard tarts "born" in Lisbon's Belem district, and it's impossible to eat just one. So, for an inexpensive pastry and coffee, meeting some nice folks from across the Atlantic, and doing something atypical while in Vancity, check this place out.

A combo meal consisting of double chicken legs, one side, and soda is available for $17. Our selections included the veri peri chicken legs combo with Caesar salad and coke; the chicken exhibited a slight spiciness but was fresh, hot, and juicy. The Caesar salad featured a substantial amount of dressing. The super peri chicken legs paired with peri fries and ice tea were also a highlight, with the peri fries being especially flavorful. Furthermore, the chicken Caesar wrap with Caesar salad contained a multitude of tasty ingredients. It is also worth noting that the restaurant provides complimentary refills on soda drinks. The service was characterized by its speed and friendliness.

You can also get a regular HK style French Toast for $5. The lava cream on top was milky and not really sweet. The outside was crispy and the inside was filled with peanut butter and it was a tasty combo. Can't really taste the Ovaltine though but that's ok. For the Combo B, you can choose what type of noodles you want. The satay beef was really good. The pineapple bun was pretty average though but the butter helps.
