    French onion soup

Great attentive service from our server Dan, appreciate you Brought us "extras", and gave us a tour of the extensive wine cellar. The meal was top notch; we left full and happy. Hope to see Barberian again.

This restaurant was the first one named by our concierge when asked for an ole fashioned non-chain steak house. The staff welcoming, the decor is warm and the food outstanding. Our waiter was patient, started us with libations, made recommendations and never rushed us along. We started with onion soup au gratan (super cheesy) lobster bisque (light and creamy) caprese salad (plentiful) then onto filet mignon, tuna steak and pork chops with baked potatoes and french fries. Everything was cooked to perfection. Dessert was a delightful white chocolate house with chocolate mousse inside. OMG! We were then given a private tour of the wine cellar and banquet tables. Best of the best all around. Enjoy!

This place was as unassuming as it gets. Shitty sign outside made me think I was gonna pop in and grab a mediocre steak and head back to the hotel. Boy was I wrong. You immediately get those old school 70's/80's steakhouse vibes as soon as you walk in. The food is terrific and the brussel sprouts are the best I've had for sure. They also do a cool little thing where they serve horseradish with every steak and not just the prime rib. That was a nice touch for sure. This was absolutely a pleasant surprise and that won't be the last time I come here.

The food here was good - the standout was the French onion soup - absolutely incredible! The steak was very good - my fiancée was a bit disappointed because he asked our waiter for a recommendation and told him he didn't like fatty steaks. The waiter recommended him a steak that had more fat and marbleing on it which is the opposite of what he wanted. So that was disappointing for him. Also we really did not like the Brussel sprouts - they were burnt and flavorless. Very nice ambiance though and otherwise good experience. Would return for the French onion soup but probably nothing else.

This was a spur of the moment place to eat. It's dark and old decor. The food was good, I had the onion soup and the pickled veggies were different and tasted good. The filet was cooked correctly and the baked potatoes, there is a person that comes around to top it. My wife had the tomahawk pork chop and they will ask you the temperature but she is a well done type of person. She said it was good. The reason for the 4 stars is that we paid for bottled water and the waiter poured the rest in my wife's glass where she had a soda pop and then gave me tap water.

Barberian's is an institution for a reason, as they know their way around the classics and keeps their quality high despite years in the field and a solid reputation. Service is seamless and ensures a comfortable meal. We took the opportunity during a recent celebration to come for a meal. Do not be fooled by the simple white nondescript entrance, as the restaurant is expansive inside with a dark cozy atmosphere. Think dark woods and dim lighting. We had the croquettes, french onion soup, the porterhouse steak, and strawberry cheesecake to finish. Everything from start to finish was perfectly executed. The porterhouse steak was of course the standout, as every bite was medium rare and delicious. A wonderful place to have a memorable meal!

Best Caesar salad ever! The bacon was a nice touch.

5 stars for their salad, pavlova and rack of lamb. I know this is a steak house so I deducted one star since my husband's steak did not meet our standards. Maybe the filet mignon would've been more tender but the dry aged steak was tough and chewy. Drinks are strong here! I appreciate it since this place is pricey. The place is small but has enough workers to accommodate every table. I'm guessing they sat us next to the bathroom since we made last minute reservation. My husband didn't mind it but I hated the fact people were in and out of the bathroom constantly with the door just few ft away from me. If this kind of stuff bothers you, speak to your host before seating!!

From what I had heard about this place, I was expecting a lot more. For two people the total bill came to $480. That was one snack, two salads, two mains and two desserts. Zero alcohol. The service wasn't that great. Our server forgot about us for most of our time there, and to be honest, the food was just OK. If I'm gonna spend that kind of money I would expect the food/service to be a lot better. The pricing on the menus have gone up significantly from the ones that are posted here on the Yelp profile.

One of the more disappointing meals I've had in Toronto. Fortunately the steak, a ribeye, was good and cooked to the right temperature. It was a little thin for my liking but a good steak, no complaints. I also liked the Brussels sprouts, cooked with vinegar, never had Brussels sprouts like them but in a good way. The real disappointment was the heirloom tomato salad. I love tomatoes and it sounded great (heirloom tomatoes with horseradish) but was close to inedible. The tomatoes had little flavour and were very mushy. Given this is the height of tomato season, they should have been great, these were the opposite. Heirloom or not, these are possibly the worst tomatoes I've ever had. Also had the grilled bacon and grilled salami, both were disappointing. The bacon was okay but not great (steakhouse bacon is usually on another level) and the salami was actually pretty bland.

You can tell this place has some history to it just from the pictures. It feels like it started off as an essential neighborhood pub with hearty meat and potatoes type of stuff. At this point it's a bit pricey/deluxe and still modest. If that's even possible. The large porterhouse steak was honestly quite exquisite. The baked potatoes are a cool experience because they come around with all the toppings and you can top it up to your liking. Went the whole nine-yards on this visit. Started with the Burrata, shared a large porterhouse which was more than enough, baked potatoes on the side, red wine to wash it down, and chocolate soufflé to top it all off. Magnifique! **kisses fingers and gestures**

    Complimentary pickled veggies

Good basic steak. Service was great and very helpful. Seated pretty fast. The Caesar salad is a must try, it comes with a bbq pork which was a welcomed suprise. The chateaubriand steak was so tender and delicious, would highly reccomend. The carrot cake was not a favorite as it had a sour taste that overpowered everything.

We ordered the tuna tartare, beet salad, Chef's Tasting (steak), 30 days aged 32 oz bone in ribeye, potatoes gratin, broccolini and wagyu fried rice. The best thing we ate that night was the complimentary bread - very similar to Yorkshire pudding. The wagyu fried rice was flavourful. The appetizers were mid and the Chef's Tasting steaks were ok albeit served lukewarm. The 30 days aged 32 oz bone in ribeye was extremely disappointing. It was very chewy and difficult to eat. Lots of fat and tough veins in the steak - it was not quality and definitely not worth $302. We didn't even eat half of it. Our server asked us if we wanted to pack it and we said no because it was disappointing and difficult to eat. He likely did not have training on how to respond as he completely ignored the comment, no apologies or further questions and cleared the rest of our table. It was really odd service for a highly rated steakhouse. I personally would not recommend Jacobs & Co and would not dine again here.

There are specials that change weekly. The interior is decorated with New Orleans memorabilia, medium lit, cozy (not large), with jazz music in the background. Service was attentive and friendly. They operated for 30 years at their old location. This location soft-opened on 2026-02-12. We came on 2026-02-25 for dinner. There were still some furnishings to complete (there were unforeseen delays). They kept the same menu offerings but it will be expanded within a month. We ordered the following: 1. Citra Terre D'Abruzzo Pinot Grigio - Italy (glass $14.95). 2. Coke. 3. Crab Cakes ($19.95). 4. New Orleans Shrimp Cocktail ($19.95). 5. Jambalaya Aranchini (weekly special). 6. Every dish had an excellent presentation. We spent a lot of time taking photos and videos. What did you expect from me?! We loved all the dishes! The portions were large! There are more staff than in the previous location, allowing the service to be excellent. They tend to have many loyal and returning customers. Every table starts with freshly baked bread and butter. The bread was so fresh! The three appetizers tasted good. They each had a little kick due to creole cuisine. I loved the shrimp the most. The Blackened Lamb Chops was perfectly cooked. Each of the four pieces were very tender, accompanied by a delicious sauce. The dish had some very nicely cooked seasonal vegetables: roasted potatoes, a red pepper, string beans, a broccoli, and a carrot. This dish will be put into their regular menu in the near future. The New Orleans Fisherman's Plate is great if you want a little sampling of their seafood: Blackened Fish, Cajun Calamari, and Coconut Beer Shrimp. It also comes with rice and seasonal vegetables. The fish was so good! We brought some home for my mom and she really loved it. The Coconut Beer Shrimp was on top of a Orange Marmalade Sauce, which is really liked. The three desserts looked really good and tasted good. I loved the pecan pie the most. They can split dishes in half in the kitchen and serve them on two dishes for two people to share. The restaurant uses fresh seasonal ingredients and spices to create authentic Creole and Cajun tastes. Everything is made in-house except for bread and butter. In the near future, their bread will be made in-house too. Currently, there is only indoor dining but they are looking into the possibility of sidewalk outdoor dining. Mike Djurdjevic runs the front of the house while his wife, Mira Djurdjevic, operates the kitchen. Their son, Marko, also helps in the front of the house. There is a large pizza oven at the back of the restaurant. They will be introducing creole pizza in the near future. There is a separate large room for events, parties, etc. This room will be ready in the near future. They also do catering. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, but there is no door-open button. There is one gender-neutral washroom, which is also wheelchair accessible, and one female washroom. Thrre is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2026-037
