    Beef tar tar with bread
    Emily M.

I came in to try their beef tar tar. Happy to say that I was not disappointed! It was packed with flavor and a great portion. Only downside is I wish they offered a little more bread to help even out the bread to meat ratio

Good place for higher end dining and high quality food! My mom and I shared their scallops crudo and steak frites. It seems that their menu changes depending on the season. We were told they don't have foie gras during the summer if it's too hot because the ducks won't be in good condition with heat. As for the dishes we ordered, I thoroughly enjoyed them! The scallop crudo was nice and lemon-y. A very refreshing and delicious dish for a summer day. The bread that it comes with was a nice touch to dip in the olive oil. I don't remember the exact price but I think the dish was around $20-30 and the portion was super small. The steak frites we had was really flavorful, peppery, and cooked nicely. Could be more tender and warmer I would say, but that butter mayonnaise sauce on the side was to die for 10/10!! Fries were basic. We had really welcoming service that was helpful as well. As it got busier the service because less attentive. The place seems really small and the tall seats were difficult for my mom to sit on as a handicapped, so keep that in mind.

Cute little spot in Ossington with the best beef tartare I've ever had! The crostini it was paired with was also the perfect crunch and the escargot was also so delicious. The beef burger was solid, cooked medium rare which made it nice and juicy. Staff were also super friendly here! Definitely will come back and sit outside on the few tables they have out in the front

One of the best meals I've had in Toronto! Côte de Boeuf absolutely blew me away with their dishes. I ordered the beef tartare, escargot, and prime ribeye--and everything was exceptional. The beef tartare was hands down the best I've ever had--perfectly seasoned, with a silky egg yolk on top and just the right amount of capers and herbs. It paired beautifully with the crispy crostini. The escargot was rich, garlicky, and bubbling hot--exactly how you want it. I loved soaking up all that buttery goodness with the bread on the side. And the prime ribeyeCooked to perfection. Juicy, tender, and full of flavor, served over a bed of roasted root vegetables that added a great earthy balance. Highly recommend this spot for a cozy, French-inspired meal. Can't wait to go back!

Lovely small restaurant on Ossington, the decor is very warm and cozy. The place is fairly small, so head over early for dinner if you dont want to end up in line for your meal! The staff were very friendly and helpful in explaining the menu and drinks. We ordered: escargot, beef tartare, duck confit and the rib eye with marrow butter. The star of the show was the beef tartare. It was so well seasoned and flavourful, absolutely loved it. The escargot was done really well too, didnt get any of the earthy and grittiness that some places can't get rid of. It was nice and tender and the garlic butter it was sitting in was delicious. The confit was fantastic, skin was super crispy but meat was extremely tender. The steak was great as well, but the butter it came with stole the show a bit. Would definitely come back to try the rest of the menu.

I came here around 1pm on Saturday. The place was full - it is a small place. There are not many tables, and the space was tight. Yet, has special character. It is a butcher based restaurant, so a tiny butchery space is attached to this restaurant's storefront, which raise my expectations high as I entered into the restaurant! We got: - Beef tartar - (Forgot the name) Anchovy fillet with cherry tomatoes with Sourdough bread slice with smoked eel butter The beef tartar was chunky, with good marinade with caper, onions, parsley etc. It came with 4 very thin slices of flavorful bread. We ordered additional bread (3 pieces) as 4 was not enough for the amount of tartar. Anchovy with cherry tomatoes was a bit disappointing. The anchovy fillets were good quality for sure, but the dressing over the cherry tomatoes were a bit bland. The eel butter tasted great! The whole dish came with only one slice of bread. What do we do with this amount of anchovy fillets, tomatoes and butter with only one slice of bread? I think they expect patrons to order more bread slices. Or, I may be craving more bread as I did not have wine??? lol I saw a lot of people in and out at the door, to take out selected cheese and cured meat items. Staff dealt with these customers diligently. The experience left me with mixed feelings. Today's experience was not entirely positive. Yet somehow I feel that I should come back again. Because it was lunch time and we drove here, we did not try wines. The food/ingredients were great and presented with quiet confidence. I could not try cheese and stakes this time. It must be much nicer if we had come in the evening not driving, to enjoy other styles of beef dishes and cheese with their selected wine. Or, get their cured meat items and cheese for take out and enjoy them at home with wine! Mmmm....Interesting one!

Got to the restaurant about 20 minutes after they opened and they already had a 45 minute wait time for a table of 4. The hostess was extremely nice and offered outdoor seating that was immediately available. Glad we took the option because the food was deliciously flavored and paired. We were outside by the sidewalk, and every person that walked by on this busy street was eyeing up our meals because we were clearly enjoying them.

The best French bistro in Toronto - you can tell they really specialize in beef preparation just by the flavor and the integrity of the dishes. Everything is seasoned very traditionally but packed with flavor The servers are also super welcoming and kind - you often see them chatting with eachother and customers, so you know they are well taken care of

The best "casual" steakhouse in Toronto, bar none. After years of frequenting their sister restaurant down the street, Union, I finally made it out to Cote De Beouf. With just a few tables and a walk in only policy, it can be tough to get a table (this was my 4th try!) but it was well worth the hype. The waiter was right - Cote serves Toronto's best Steak Tartare. The Steak Frites, and especially the Braised Ribs special were incredible as well. Can't wait to come back!

I really wish this place took at least a handful of reservations, since it's really tough to get in as a walk-in. We arrived at 6:30 on a Friday night, eta on the waitlist was 2hrs but it ended up being 3hrs which was just too much. The food was great but I don't think it's worth that much of a wait. We ordered the PEI oysters, steak tartare, and steak frites. Oysters were good, tartare was excellent with the perfectly crunchy and buttery baguette - probably my favourite bite of the night. Lastly the steak frites was delicious especially with the peppercorn sauce but it was a bit underwhelming relative to the hype of being the best steak in toronto. Also the fries must have been fried in some sort of fat because each bite felt so rich that it made us feel way more full than we should have been. The whole meal was quite rich and filling, the service was great, and the ambiance was cozy as it seemed like an old house remodeled into a restaurant. Anyways, I hope I'll be back again sometime.

Came here on a Friday night & there was quite the wait. Arrived at 7:30 and waited around 2.5 hours for a table (lots of restos nearby to grab a drink and wait). Service is good and friendly. Ambiance is warm and comfortable. We heard good things about Cote so we were excited to give them a try even with the long wait. Food was just mid. - Tartare with fries (4/5): highlight of the meal. Very fresh and balanced. - Ribeye (3/5): wayyy overly salty, but was cooked to the doneness of our liking. Not the best cut of meat but not terrible. - Oysters west coast (3/5): average oysters that came with mignonette and horseradish. Unlikely to return as the food didn't quite meet our expectations for the price and hype. Comparable to Jules.

WOW! We stopped by for dinner and were blown away by both the service and food here! We were very lucky to be seated right away when we walked in - there were 4 of us and we got there just before 6 pm. We had to try the Côte De Boeuf with Duck Fat Potatoes & Seasonal Vegetables... this was one of the best dishes I've had in Toronto. We got the meat medium rare and it literally melt in your mouth. So flavourful, so juicy, and the accompaniments made it a perfectly balanced dish to split. Our server was awesome - he got our drink and food orders in so quickly and that definitely elevated the experience. I love how the restaurant is also a shop so you can see other produce they sell during the day. It was so much fun and lively here! Would 100% come back.

I've been here twice and have brought friends to try this place out, and no complaints! I've been passing by this restaurant for years and finally got to try it. I've tried the beef tartare, the escargot, braised beef rib, and both steaks. Everything was so tasty and perfectly cooked. The 8oz steak was so tender and full of flavour, probably one of the best steaks I've had to date. The sauces that accompanied the dishes was rich and flavourful. I can't wait to come back and try more dishes. I highly recommend passing by earlier to put your name down on the wait list as they don't take reservations and the restaurant is very small. I've only sat at the front end of the restaurant but have seen that they have a bit more seating at the back. If you don't mind waiting they have 2 tables and chairs outside under a heater for those who want to wait outside, why not grab a drink? Service is friendly and wonderful and we never felt rushed. I definitely want to bring my boyfriend here to try the food.

They have a tremendous amount of really nice looking meets everything from steaks to chops to chicken - you name it. In particular I was looking to make a meatloaf and so they had a special on ground steak. 3 pounds for $15. We grabbed it up. And I believe they actually were a little more on the generous side in terms of weight. Fast friendly service and we made up the meatloaf and it was awesome. Totally will be coming back here I saw some really outstanding looking steaks that I think I will pick up next time. So don't be afraid to try this vendor. They have great meat.

They also have a variety of birds: pheasant, partridge, duck, quail, cornish hen, guinea fowl, squab and ostrich. You can order your meat in several convenience cuts, including burgers and sausages. I personally tried the crocodile and the kangaroo sliders. The crocodile was the most novel of the two meats for me. The meat's texture was somewhat like a mix between a soft pork and the flakiness of most fish. The flavour also had a somewhat fishy tinge to it, but you should try it yourself for the full experience. On the other hand, the kangaroo meat was much more similar to what you would expect from your typical beef. Its texture is fibrous, and the flavour has a hint of barbecue. I could definitely see myself enjoying kangaroo on a regular basis. (Anyone want to move to Australia???) Drop by WhiteHouse Meats for a new food adventure! Oh by the way, did I mention my husband was Italian? He knows knee caps pretty good. Budda boom budda bing. I'm a shopper who should come with a warning sign that reads "You fuck up my meat and I'll fuck up your meat". Witteveen Meats is my go to place for meats when I'm making my Saturday morning grocery run at the SLM. The meat case is absolutely pristine and that is a big selling point for me. Even on the customer side of the glass you'll rarely seem any smudgy finger prints. Meat cleanliness is an important sign and tells me that these are people I want to do business with. It was a frosty Saturday morning when my kindred spirit in meat, Shari M. and I hit up the SLM to stock up on our provisions and meat was one of them. I have been tutoring Shari in the fine art of making Bolognese sauce so she needed her some extra lean ground beef and some lean ground pork. I steered her in the direction of Witteveens which was perfect because it was kitty corner to the table and chairs we had managed to snag while giving some mouth to mouth to an absolutely perfect, juicy and fully loaded back bacon on a bun from the Carousel Bakery. Witteveen Meats is one of the largest, if not, the largest purveyor of meats in the SLM. They sell some beautifully stuff pork loins filled with everything from fresh rosemary to dried fruits. Their French prepped lamb racks are a thing of beauty. Korean short ribs are fucking amazing and only take 3-4 minutes on the 'cue. There is every kind of beef imaginable available on the butcher counter. Price is accordingly scaled....tenderloin, grain fed, Alberta beef, it's all over the place. Yesterday they had strip loins on for 8 bucks a piece. I bought two and turned them in to Beef Strognoff, enough for two meals. I also picked up a fresh air chilled roasting chicken for ten buck which is about to get sodomized with a beer can and strapped to the Weber later today. The best thing about hanging out at Witteveen Meats on a Saturday morning is the chance to have some potty mouth exchanges with Toronto Maple leaf hockey legend and all around bad ass guy, Eddie "Clear the track....here comes" Shack. I asked one of the employees if they had any grass fed beef liver, and he said their beef liver was from cows that were grass fed and then topped off with grains to add in some fat. I then asked if he was 100% sure that it was grass fed. He checked with his co-worker who also assured me that it was indeed grass fed. I purchased 1.8 Lbs of liver for $28.62 believing that it was grass fed. Once I returned home, I visited the website of the farm that produces the meat. To my utter disbelief, the farm openly states that their meat is corn-fed. I immediately called Witteveen back and enlightened them on the fact that their meat is NOT grass fed. The responses, as I anticipated were "Oh, we were told it was" and "we didn't know" and "the owner is not in today but you can call back on Monday". Needless to say I retuned the liver to the store and got a full refund. As a goodwill gesture, they offered me free meat to make up for the lie. I politely declined and left the store. I later visited Wittevens website which turned out to be equally misleading. The website suggests that Witteveens is a 5-generation old dutch family run company. It's not. It's owned by a guy named Sainu Kanichirakal - clearly not from Holland. I am ok with the fact that they don't sell grass-fed beef liver (it's very hard to find), but don't BS your customers!
