Spent the day at Barber Park and honestly forgot how much there is to do there. The park is always super clean and well maintained, and it's one of the better parks around Orlando for both families and adults. There's a huge playground, splash pad, walking paths, sports courts, skate park, dog park, and plenty of open space to just relax. What I like most is that it never feels overly crowded or chaotic even when there are a lot of people there. It has a really laid back atmosphere and there's something for everyone whether you're bringing kids, skating, walking your dog, or just trying to get outside for a bit. The shaded areas and lake views make it even better, especially during sunset. Definitely one of the best public parks in Orlando and a spot I'll keep coming back to read more

I absolutely love this park. Used to come here when I was a kid with my dad for playground days, picnics and drill work ( track and field ). Now I bring my little one who loves the covered play area, huge fields and ducks ! She can ride her bike or scooter or make new friends on the playground. The Barber name is a well known one to Orlando history fans. The Barber/Mizell Feud was a violent conflict in Central Florida during the Reconstruction era, primarily focused on cattle and taxes. The feud began in 1870 after the death of Orange County Sheriff David Mizell, who was killed on Barber property while attempting to collect taxes. It escalated from disagreements over cattle and taxes, and resulted in at least 8 deaths and lasted for over 50 years, unofficially ending with the marriage of family members in 1940. Barber Park in Orlando, Florida, was established in 1997 and is named after Carl E Barber, an Orange County commissioner for District 5 in the 1920's. The land was previously part of the Barber family's ranching property, which they had owned since 1833. The county purchased 66 acres in 1990 to create the park. Today the park is a spacious 81 acres. Barber Park draws the Orlando community together for recreational activities. The park has three soccer fields, a playground, splash pad, basketball court, dog park, covered hockey rink, walking trails and pickleball courts. My favorite part of the park was the wetland area where I saw so many birds. There was a great blue heron, wood storks, ibis, a great egret, and ducks. It was our first time coming to this community park and there is so much to do! Some of their many amenities include, a splash pad, skateboard park, playground, basketball court, and hockey court. There is so much to do for everyone! There's several pavilions available as well for rental, perfect for any occasion. The pavilions include picnic tables me grills. read more

I was looking for a great park for my husband to fly a kite and I found Barber park online and figured we would give it a try. It was the perfect location! It had plenty of open field space that got great wind for flying a kite. It's also close to the airport so there were planes flying over all day, which my son and husband loved since they are crazy about airplanes. The park also had a playground with slides and swings, a few different basketball courts, restrooms, and be able to a soccer goals. There are beautiful walking paths and even a small pond surrounded by cypress trees. It also has a small skate park with ramps for kids who are into skateboarding or rollerblading. Parking space is plentiful as well, so no need to worry about not being able to find a spot. We will definitely be back again to enjoy some quality family time at Barber Park. It is a dangerous place. I went for a walk with my mom around the lake and she fell due to a sidewalk that was raised. NOT SAFE!!!!

What a nice park! Barber Park is a nice sized park tucked away on a side street off of Semoran Boulevard that has a lot to offer. For starters, it has a roller hockey rink. I have never seen a roller hockey rink anywhere else and Barber Park has one. Barber Park also has a volleyball court, basketball courts, soccer fields, a splash park, a children's playground and a nice lake. There is also plenty of parking and a nice walking path. Oh, we cannot forget several pavilions. Barber Park is a fantastic hidden gem of a park tucked away from the hustle and bustle that can be Orlando, Florida and I would definitely recommend a visit here. I will give Barber Park five stars overall and again, it definitely earned my recommendation. If you are on the east side of town, head on over and see for yourself. read more

We visited this splash pad and playground for a mom meetup for the first time and I would rate it a 2 out of 5. I did not feel safe. There were a couple of homeless individuals who were becoming aggressive, shouting, talking to themselves, and pretending to throw punches. We told a staff member about one man who was close to the splash pad and scaring the kids, but we were told they were harmless. Even after the staff spoke to him, he did not move away. Another man took off his shirt near the playground where other kids were playing. I understand that not all homeless people are dangerous, but the behavior we saw was not appropriate around children and made us feel unsafe. My biggest concern was that the splash pad has two entrances and one of these individuals was right by one of them. Staff should take these situations more seriously and set clear boundaries to keep the area safe for families. I do not recommend this location and will not be returning. read more

Great place to visit for outdoor activities. They have a volleyball court, soccer field, basketball court, and an outdoor skating rink! There are times that the rink is booked for use, so please refer to the website to see the schedule. There are public restrooms and outdoor grills, making this a cute place for any outdoor gatherings or birthday events. There is also a playground and swing set in the same area. Parking is good, as there are plenty of spaces to park. I'm sure this park has much more to offer, but these are the things I've noticed and used. read more

Barber Park is located off Gatlin and it's close to our apartment which is very convenient. It has a dog park section (divided to have one side for small dogs and one side for large dogs), a playground, a soccer area, a volleyball area, a basketball court, and more. There's a nice, wide sidewalk that goes all around the park which is great for walking or jogging. There's a pond that has lot of ducks that hang out and a smaller farmer's market is there some Sundays. It's not the most scenic park in Orlando, but I still find it to be pretty and a peaceful spot tucked into the area and am happy to be so close to it! read more

I visited Barber Park while visiting my niece in Orlando. The park was close to her house and offered a nice walking trail. This park had much to offer the local neighborhood. There was a skating rink, skateboarding ramps, playground, basketball court, soccer fields, and volleyball courts. They also had a dog park. Wow, fun for the whole family! In addition to all of the amenities it's beautiful park! With small ponds of water throughout and lots of trees and green. You will find wildlife on your walk such as birds and possibly turtles. My niece and I walked for about an hour and did a little running too. We were in the sun most of the time, but the trail has a few shaded spots. I recommend sunscreen and a hat if you're coming here for walking. There is plenty of public parking as well as a clean public restroom. read more

I love this park. It's located by my home, which is convenient. They are doing a lot of construction on it right now, but I know this for the park to look better! I come to play pick up soccer and run on the sidewalks around the lake. The sidewalks are mostly all nice and flat. The sidewalks go all around the park, which allows for a great workout. There are plenty of soccer goals and space to shoot around. Most leagues for younger players come here to practice and have games on the weekends. There is a skate park for those who like to skate with skateboards and also a skate rink for those who like to roller blade! The roller skate park sometimes is used for indoor soccer as well. The bathrooms are a bit stinky, but they are outdoor facilities which is understandable. The bathrooms for the most part stay clean throughout the week. This park offers a device that goes off whenever a storm is near and unsafe conditions are amongst us. the alarm will sound when necessary. I like that a lot! It's a great way to know when to take cover or get to a dry location. The basketball courts are great! Lots of people come to play. There are a couple of different courts. Most time they will hand out soccer and basketballs for people to use if they are available. There are dog parks for big and small dogs! Lots of people bring their dogs to the park. They are all clean and well kept. Great place to come bring your dogs! I suggest this park to anyone looking for a great time outdoors! read more

Barber Park is a wonderful park in the northern part of Orlando. We didn't know about it until recently but are so glad we found this hidden gem. Barber Park has a basketball court, hockey rink, soccer fields, splash pad, playground and walking loop. They have a small recreational center with public restrooms too. The grounds are kept clean and maintained. We received word that they are trying to build a gym here. I really hope they don't do that because there are enough gyms in the area and this is a wonderful family friendly park and should stay that way. read more

Small Dogs Beware! There are a couple aggressive small dogs, whatever, but no big issue there. The problem is the older man with the white shepherd who brings her into the small dog section. She's attacked at least three dogs and he still brings her. If you see an old dude walking an off leash white shepherd, leave before she has the chance to attack your dog too... read more

Really enjoyed the small dog park until lately. Unfortunately a few irresponsible dog owners won't abide by the large dog over 30 lbs clearly marked signage. They want large dogs but want to hang out in the small dogs under 30lbs side with there friends for social hour. Beware of one particular lady with a white Pitt bull with black spots that refuses to take her dog on the large dog side. She is usually there between 4pm and 6pm with her friends. They think they own the park and can make their own rules. Beware it has attacked my dog and several others. It's sad that people like this ruin it for everyone. Extremely irresponsible pet owners. I had to find a new park for the safety of my dog. I have read several complaints about the same issue. Just beware for the safety of your small dogs. They aren't safe at this park. read more

My sister told me about the Conway Community Market, so we dropped everything to rush over before it ended. There wasn't as many vendors as the crowded downtown farmer's market, but there were a decent variety of tents. The park itself is a nice sized park to have birthday parties or get togethers. There's a skate park for the athletics in the family. You can bring your bikes and ride around or ride your skates while walking your dog at this pet-friendly area. There's a covered area with bleachers to shelter from the rain. My parents live right down the road so this would be a perfect place to have a family picnic with all the grandkids. read more

A great spot to breath in some fresh air! It is very accesible and easy to get to. It is kept clean all the time and the people that go there are very friendly. The park offers many different activities for people of all ages. It has the kids area, with swings, etc., it has two enclosed sections for dogs to roam free, it has a basketball court, a street hockey court, and multiple soccer fields. In the weekends, the soccer courts are flooded with all the kids that go there to take classes. Also, it has a very decent skating area, with ramps and rails to grind the day away. If you feel like you need to sweat some weight down, or if you simply enjoy sports and want to play with others, this park is the perfect spot for people that live nearby! read more

This is a nice park in south Orlando that offers some things you won't find anywhere else. They have your standard stuff: playgrounds, basketball, walking/running trail, lakes and ponds, and open fields for soccer or football. They also have a few small fenced areas meant as dog parks. The dog park portion is really quite small with little to no shade trees. There are covered pavilions in each, which is nice. The dog park area also has some agility equipment (dog walks, tunnels, etc.). I noticed a lot of dog owners ignored the fenced area and just let their dogs run loose in the nearby field. The field is massive and backs up to Lake George. Although I didn't go down to the lake it looked like owners and dogs were taking a swim. What makes this park unique is that they have a covered roller rink. I don't know if I've ever seen one in Central Florida, and I thought it was a great addition to the park. read more

A well maintained city park with a number of entertainment options for everyone. My wife and I visit there mostly for the two dog run areas - one for large and one for smaller dogs. What I like about this park is that most all of the dogs seem to get along and owners are all watchful to make sure that everyone has a good time. There are also a number of fields for activities like soccer, football and other events. On any given weekend you can see games of lacrosse, frizbee football and more. There is also a basketball court and even a covered concrete rink for roller hockey. Need a place for the kids, there is also a playground, lake and plenty of picnic options. The one star is for the rude Hispanic woman that I encountered today. Granted the park is large and nice. However, the group playing pickleball was territorial. On arrival there was already a young man roller skating and enjoying his music. I tried to join this good energy as well as I laced my skates to play hockey in a small area of the hockey rink when a very negative presence approached me. Pickleball should be played on a tennis court and not on a roller hockey rink. The older gentleman was nicer and actually moved and that's away so then I can actually share the space with them. She then bothered me when I was enjoying my day off and asked me to leave because they were expecting others to arrive. I made it clear that I wouldn't skate or shoot in their area and that was that. I then observed this terrible woman go to the clubhouse two times just to report me and the other man on skates. Once she got a hold of the staff she made it a point to kick me out as the other gentleman on skates had left. The dark souled woman made it a point that she's been here for several years and it's always been that way. I made it a point to the park employee that this is a public space and it should be shared. The group did not pay to use this space and the awful woman was already demonstrating bullying behaviors. Of course, with low intelligence and entitled thinking there was point for further explanation. If you want to have a bad time on your day off, go to this park. Nice park! Went here to check out a farmers market. Weather was perfect, there wasnt a lot of venders but enough to keep us busy for bout a half hour plenty of food trucks available to get a snack but we had already ate so next time. The park itself was really nice it has basketball courts, a skate park, a covered out door skating area, play ground and plenty of pavilions. There is a small pond with ducks to walk around were the vendors set up. I could see hanging out here for a b day party or barbeque. read more

my 2-star review is due solely to the dog park. Although my dog is a bulldog breed and shorter than a lot of dogs, I had to take her into the large dog section because she weighs over 50 lbs. She got mauled a couple of times which is to be expected during playtime where there are several large dogs running around. However, there were two large, unsupervised dogs that were snarling and going after all the other dogs. It was my first time ever taking my dog to a dog park and I was disgusted by this. When I arrived, there were at least 15-20 dogs in the play area and within 10-15 mins, these aggressive dogs had managed to run everybody off. The last dog to leave (besides mine) was one of the aggressive ones who charged at my dog as we were approaching the gate to leave. Pretty sure the owners were sitting at a table engaged in conversation that was obviously more intriguing than watching their dog. As for the rest of the park, it is very well maintained and seems to be a great place to come and cookout or play sports!! read more

Regarding the dog park, can I just inform everyone that dogs sometimes growl while playing? This is normal behavior. In fact, normal play involves a lot of growling and mock biting. It looks like fighting. So, if you are two massive, loud, aggressive owners of oh, let's say, a German Shepherd, and another dog barks and growls at your dog, you are the problem when you loudly denounce the owner. If you don't want your dog to interact like a dog, come here midday on a weekday when no one else is around. That said, play-fighting is characterized by rearing up, and the "play bow," which never happen in a real conflict between dogs. Yes, there is a lot of growling, barking, and bared teeth. If you don't believe me (and you shouldn't just up and believe anyone without evidence) take 45 seconds and google it. As for the park itself, note that it is free. It's big. It's green. Please beware of this park - the fence is extremely dangerous. On September 1, 2014, my dog Kona was severely injured by a hinge on this dog park's fence while she was playing and running just as the signs on the park's property encourage her to do. The hinge caused a deep laceration approximately 8-9" long all down her left side. She had to get dozens of stitches, a drainage tube, and multiple medications. My veterinary bill was over $1,000+ and it has taken her months to recover. I submitted an application for an incident report to Orange County FL Parks & Recreation that very day, and told them I am holding them responsible for her veterinary bills and for modifying or reconstructing the fence so that something horrible like this doesn't happen again. As of today, more than 60 days later, they have yet to respond. The hinge on the fence that severely injured my dog did not seem damaged or in a state of disrepair - in it's normal state, it was dangerous enough to cut into my dog's skin just by coming in contact with it. And all the hinges on the entire fence surrounding the dog park area (and perhaps the entire park) are identical to it. Until the Orange County government changes this fence, and any fences in any of their county's parks that have the same hinge structure, they are putting everyone who visits the park at risk for a similar injury. This review is to let everyone know there is a great dog park located in Barber Park. Two large areas, one for small (30 and under), one for large dogs. We usually play in the small dog area. This is a large park, all grass, watering stations, waste bags provided. I'm glad to see a park that dedicates the same amount of room to the small dogs as the large dogs. The grass is well maintained. There is a covered pavilion with a table and a few benches in the fenced area. Not a lot of places to sit, but really, you should be playing with your dog, anyway! The reason I like this park and it may be my favorite is because your dog can really RUN here. There's no mulch, no concrete, just grass and even if it's crowded, there's still plenty of room. There is a parking area and a short walk to the dog play areas. The dog park is located in the back of the park, just drive through and you'll see. They seem to have several county workers in the park when we were there, which is nice if you have questions or need assistance. Our dog had a great time and the big dogs seemed to be having fun too. Off leash play is good for your dog but on leash training is very important. You can walk your dog on the paved paths around the park. The park is easy to find, just off 436 at Gatlin Ave. Open 7 days a week, sunrise to sunset. We talked to a park worker and he said they only close on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Reminder: don't bring "high value" items to a dog park. Your dog's favorite toy might cause a problem. And please, no food or dog treats. read more

I came here with my friend who lives close by and frequents the place often. The park has 2 sections (large and small) and both of our dogs are around 35lbs so we usually can pick and choose which side we want to be on. Normally I prefer the larger side but when I got there, there were many more dogs on the smaller side and most of those dogs there were medium sized. We went small. INSIDER TIP: The large side here is more like XXL. When I first arrived, there were only 2 or 3 dogs on the larger side but over the course of the 90 minutes or so that number increased to about 12-15. They were all very large dogs and were playing extremely rough, having to be broken up by their owners more often than I normally see. My friend said that this was common. The grounds were fairly well kept and each section had some shade and adequate seating. Waste bags are provided along with water for you and fido. I don't frequent parks a whole lot (I'm too busy huddled over my computer writing these reviews in the dark sanctuary of my walk-in closet), but this is one I went to a lot when I was in high school. It's very big and offers a lot of different things for a lot of different people depending on where your interests lie; there's giant open spaces for pets to roam, soccer and football games, and general rough housing. There's a playground and swing set for the kids. There's a hockey rink for... hockey. It's great. There's also a nice scenic route in the far North side of the park that goes into a small patch of woods, which overlooks Lake George if you travel far enough back. From what I've heard: If you're a troublemaking teen, stoner, or public sex fiend, head on into the woods! If you're a parent out for a nice day at the park with your kids... stay the hell away from the woods! read more
