Perhaps this just isn't the place for walk-ins. I booked an appointment with the owner after a recommendation from a neighbor and when I arrived he was busy so he passed me off to someone else. I give explicit direction on the cut, I'm not one to risk a bad cut by being open-ended. The barber didn't follow my direction. Didn't have a thinning sheer to remove volume from the sides, didn't provide a natural finish to the back, didn't know how to fade a beard. I've dropped by many barber shops at this price point and lower who could accommodate these requests. Was my cut the worst I've ever had, no. But I did go back to my usual barber within a few days to fix it up, who jokingly asked if I tried to cut my hair myself. read more

Bruno was absolutely incredible and took my very basic request of a one on the sides and half an inch off the top to a new level by weaving in a natural part and styling my hair in a new way I haven't done before. Truly one of the best haircuts I've ever had. I love a place that takes my request but that truly cares about making it look the best possible! I asked the barber to follow simple instructions, and then he went off on his own and cut my sides and neckline - now my hair, which I am growing, does not match my neckline. Clearly some thought was put into the details: a print of Brooklyn sprawled across the walls, large mirrors and bright lighting to open up the space, and an old globe opens to reveal whiskey and other spirits. Haircuts don't come cheap though. A regular cut will cost you $20 and the barbers although they are not rude, I wouldn't call them friendly either. It was hard to decide how to rate my experience. The haircut came out excellent 5 stars, I don't know the woman's name who helped did the cut, but it came out great. When I went to pay, the man at the first chair (assuming he's Robert). Charged me $52 for for a hair cut and beard line up. I only did a skin fade on the side as I'm trying to grow out the top and lined up my beard as I keep it pretty short anyway. I thought it was a little pricey, but I was in a rush, and with the $8 tip my total came to $60. After thinking about the price I decided to call just for a price quote. Robert (assuming again) informed me hair cuts are $29, beard line up is $13. Grand total $42, so I was over charged $10. read more

I usually go here and the woman at the end is great I think her name is Natasha but other than that they're pretty sexist here. I just got my hair cut and was next in line and the guy asked "whose next?" And then looked at me (a woman) and and wouldn't cut my hair. He made me wait for the next woman to cut my hair... I must've been this first woman's hair cut because I gave her a picture as I usually do here and specific instructions. I had to correct for 6 times throughout the whole cut. At one point my fade looked like all one buzz. Towards the end I had barely any hair left for her to correct the fade. She also burned my ear with the hair dryer. Over the course of the last few years this place has constantly been giving me problems. For one the barbers don't know how to listen to simple instructions like keeping hair long on top they constantly just cut my hair really short even though I tell them every time to keep it long on top. Also they seem like they can only cut one type of hairstyle which is a huge problem. For the last 2 years I haven't touched this place but I decided to give it one last try and like usual they cut it way to short after I gave them firm directions. my family and friends have also had issues with instructions in this barber shop making them never wanna come back. Overall I will definitely not be going to this barber or shop again and I would advice anyone who's thinking of going here to revalue there choice. read more

I was recently hired for a position in Dumbo and decides to treat myself at the local barbershop after reading the raving reviews. What a mistake that was. First of all the pricing. If you want a haircut it's reasonable, $22. A shave will cost you $28 more. So a solid $50 before tip if you want to treat yourself. I ended up going during my lunch break thinking I could get in real quick whole it's till not busy and still have like 30 minutes to eat. Well my haircut ended up taking exactly 53 minutes. That's 53 minutes for haircut and beard trim. Not a shave mind you, just trimming by beard with the machine. And scissors were used on my hair for a grand total of about 3 of those minutes. As for the quality of the cut itself. Well it was pretty horrid. I'm pretty sure the stylist forgot what I even asked for by the time she finished because my only request was a "part" in my hair. Which I had to remind her of after the haircut was finished. Bascially the quality of the haircut is what you would expect at those $8 Asian hair salons all over Brooklyn. And as for the beard trim? Even that was butchered. I'm not quite sure how seeing as I had my beard done just a week ago but after this stylist was done with it the beard was no longer symmetrical. At this point you may be asking why I gave this place two stars instead of one. Well that's because the head barber saw my disappointment and tried to fix my haircut. Naturally it didn't work out well because you can't make hair grow back but I appreciated the effort. I was also given an extra "star" on their loyalty card. As if I was actually going to come back after such an exoerince. Would I come back here? Never. Even though I'm sure the main barber can give an excellent cut, the fact that some stylists have no clue what they are doing makes it simply too much of a risk. read more

I'm on the phone so I opt to stand by the door wave at my guy (the main dude) and talk on the phone outside... You know as to not be speaking in the waiting room... Walk in when the last dude that was already waiting leaves and am told I have to wait for the guys who came in after me. Sir, you saw me, waved and nodded at me to stay outside. Why are you being brand new? Then he gets to me (I'm traveling soon so I needed to stay) and asks if I've ever been there before. Yeah dude, 5 times and always with you! I have wavy hair. Jewishesque, but nice, long curls. Maybe I'm just really bad at explaining what I want, but methinks it's just hard to cut my hair. I have only found one guy who knows how to cut my hair. That was in Paris. To be fair, I knew the second I sat down that it was a mistake. I shoulder a good part of the blame on this one. However, fifteen minutes after sitting down, I understood why those sheep scream in those videos on youtube. They are angry at their barbers. Rather than taking the time to texturize my hair by carefully cutting along the strands, this guy just grabbed the thinning scissors and undid years of good haircuts. It was only 24 bucks with tip, but I want my money back. I want my hair back. If anyone knows a better place I am all ears. I would not recommend this place to anyone with loose curly hair. Used to come here all the time. When they started, it was a great establishment. I don't know what happened...Robert and Bulat and Tatiana are all very nice and talented, but the transient barbers are garbage and only getting worse: I stopped coming when one of the male barbers, who doesn't seem to be there anymore, rushed through my (terrible) haircut, and didn't give me a hot towel, even though he took his time and gave hot towels to the previous client and the one after me, who are both white. I am visibly not white. I couldn't help but feel like it was personal and I stopped coming here. Maybe I was wrong (sometimes I like giving a benefit of the doubt), but it left a really bad taste in my mouth and I wasn't going to waste time on a shop that operates like that. I visited again recently because I was in the area. But the barber cut me behind me ear with her scissors and didn't tell me. I had to find out after, back at my office, when I was cleaning some hair off my ears and I noticed dried blood on my paper towel. Really awful feeling from going back to a barbershop I used to love and respect. Not to mention the strands of hair she missed on my side burns, making it look like I got a haircut with a pair of gardening sheers. I will be honest i walked in expecting to be disappointment but they really did a great job. The guy that cut my hair was from London and this dude just loved to cut hair and it really showed. With very little instruction from me he managed to give me one of the best haircuts I have ever had. This may sound odd, but they were very accommodating with my lack of talkativeness. I am not one for chatting up a storm while Im getting my hair cut....get me in get me out I'm happy. The barber was polite trying to start conversation but i think noticed I wasn't having it and didn't make it weird just focused on getting done. We actually did end up talking a bit but only because he was a genuinely good guy. Without asking he also gave me a straight razor shave on my neck which I had never had before and quit frankly made be nervous. However, there was nothing to worry about this guy was a pro and now I am the owner of neck softer then a baby's bottom. He ended the job with a wipe with a nice hot towel that was very cleansing. Ended up paying $18 pre-tip. The owner introduced himself to me and gave me a loyalty punch card. Although it is more then I usually pay for a haircut the laid back environment and convenience of the location will most likely have me coming back. read more

I wanted to wait until I've had a few haircuts here (just had my 5th) before writing a review. The shop is spacious and clean, and plenty of room to sit while you wait. I've only had my hair cut by Anastasia - she did such a great job the first time that I keep booking her - and she does a really clean skin fade. I have thick straight hair that doesn't like to lay flat, and she manages it very well. I always make an appointment online through their website, and am usually seated within 5 minutes of my appointment time. Would highly recommend this shop and Anastasia. read more
