ATTEMPTED THEFT OF SERVICES - DECEPTIVE PRACTICES......... DON'T TRUST BARBER FORD TO PERFORM ANY REPAIRS TO YOUR VEHICLE!!!!! PLEASE READ Barber Ford should be criminally charged for their attempt to take my money for a service that was 100% NOT needed! STORY: My nephew checked the brakes on my 2022 Ford Explorer to determine if they needed to be replaced because I heard squeaking. He removed the front tires, checked the brake and rotors and determined the front brakes were fine, and placed both front tires back on. My nephew only removed the rear tires and never touched the brakes, simply looked at them and put the rear tires back on. When I started the engine all the bells and whistles went off advising me there was brake issues and that i needed to get my vehicle to the dealer for service. I went to Barber Ford, where I also purchased my vehicle, and spoke with service representative Annette Rose. I explained to Rose what occurred and I asked Rose if there was a way to simply reset the system to silence all the notifications repeatedly going off. I advised Rose that there should be nothing wrong with the emergency parking brakes, because the emergency parking brakes were never touched. Rose advised me that there was nothing she could do to reset the system that I would need to make an appointment to have the vehicle hooked up and diagnosed what the problem was When I asked Rose what that would cost me, Rose advised me $180.00. Reluctantly I scheduled an appointment to have the system diagnosed On November 01, 2024. On November 01, 2024, I went to Barber Ford and met with Annette Rose, who again advised me it would cost $180 for the diagnostic, literally plugging in the machine to print what is "wrong" with the system. Rose came to me and advised me that both the rear emergency brake actuators needed to be replaced. I asked how could the rear emergency brake actuators be bad, the Ford only had like 41,000 miles and no one ever touched the rear brakes at all. When I asked Rose what the cost of the repair would be, Rose responded that the repair cost was $1037.38. I advised her no thank you that I would get a second opinion. When I went to pay the bill, Barber Ford attempted to change me $235.21. I advised Rose that she quoted me $180.00 not $235.21 and I asked Rose what the extra money was for, and Rose responded taxes. I advised her tax on $180.00 at 6% is not $55.21, and I did not agree to pay more then the $180.00. Rose adjusted the price back to $180.00 and I paid the bill and left, fuming!! I took my Ford Explorer to Muffler Man located in Holland, because Muffler Man has always treated me fairly, with respect and I could trust Muffler Man to do a good job without taking advantage of me. Yes, I know, I should have just taken the Ford to Muffler Man in the first place. I explained to the Muffler Man technician what had occurred with the checking of the brakes by my nephew, with all the notifications on the dash, and what had transpired at Barber Ford. The Muffler Man technician, advised me that I should not be having a problem with the emergency parking brake actuators on a 2022 Ford Explorer with only 41,000 miles on it. The technician looked at my Ford Explorer, and within a few minutes came back and said your all done. I asked him if he replaced the accusatory's that quickly and he advised me that there was nothing wrong with my parking brake actuators, that he simply reset the system and all the dash notifications and bells and whistles had seized. He advised that Barber Ford ONLY HAD TO RESET THE SYSTEM!!! Of course when I heard what Muffler Man stated I was super angry of how Barber Ford attempted to deceive me that there was a mechanical issue with my Ford, and then not only STOLE $180.00 FOR THEIR DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT ALSO ATTEMPTED TO DECEITFULLY STEAL AN ADDITIONAL $1037.00 MORE FROM ME FOR A SERVICE THAT WAS NOT REQUIRED!!!!! I specifically asked Annette Rose if she could simply reset the system to stop all the dash notifications and bells and whistles and Rose specifically said there was nothing she could do to reset the system.....funny how Muffler Man was able to do so without ANY issue and didn't charge me one cent for the service they did provide, NOT ONE PENNY!! So a huge thumbs up to MUFFLER MAN for their integrity and work ethic! I know where I will be taking all my vehicles back for ANY repair! As for Barber Ford, I am going to copy and paste this review to as many places as I can to educate the public THAT BARBER FORD CAN NOT BE TRUSTED TO REPAIR YOUR VEHICLE!!! I bought my car from Barber.Whenever it needed service etc.,I would bring in there.Had no problem until recently.The service engine and another symbol come on.Had such the run around to even get my car fixed.They first come out to to check it.They said I had to have a part which they had to order.Once that was in they still couldn't fix the car.Then they made a appointment to bring it in.Waited all day just for them to say they never even looked at my car.FINALLY they were "suppose" to fix it.I got in and the check engine light was still on.They come to look at it and they didn't know why it was on.I called the guy I was dealing with(Kevin Beebee) and left a message.He texted me back and said he would call.Never did.Called again and never heard back.Not good for business at all. This was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. Scheduled a recall that I needed to wait on parts for, was informed by Ford that parts were now available. I then brought my truck in for the recall and asked for a diagnosis. Later found out that they didn't actually have the parts on hand and it was just in for an inspection however, was never informed of this. Later assessed the diagnosis to find it was inaccurate. Had to then bring my truck back at a later date to install the recalled parts and re-program the new part. Found out they cannot re-program it and will not waive the diagnostic fee for an incorrect diagnostic. On top of that was treated incredibly rude from the moment I went to the service counter. I would steer clear of this dealership at all costs, absolutely awful experience with zero accountability. read more

In need of a new - used - car. I picked out 3 to look at on a Saturday. First stop: Barber Ford. Mark Strikwerda came out to greet us as we looked at a 2008 Ford Edge. Great guy. Never a doubt about his honesty / ntegrity. After a test drive we went back to buy the car. Wanting some service work done, we agreed to pick up the car on Thursday. My 2018 F150 was in for some recall work. Since I was close to my 20k mi service time I had Jake the service writer tell me about and schedule the service as the truck would be in for the recall anyway. So while the recall work was being done they did "The Works" service package which included oil change, inspection of critical systems and a "Tire Rotation"... here's where it gets sketchy. I picked up my truck, paid for "the works", and drove home. On the drive home I shuttled through my in dash menu and noticed that my tire pressure readings are at the same numbers as before the service. Front passenger tire under pressure by about 5 lbs. I made note of these numbers before hand as I was concerned about that tire and wanted to make sure it was not slow leaking. That tires rim also has a distinct scratch on the rim. So when I got home... yup that tire had not been rotated. Not a huge deal but the extra cost for "the works" included rotations of tires. They did find that my brakes were in dire need of replacing in the rear and want to charge me $700 for 2 brakes. After calling my regular mechanic his quote for the same job was $450... so there's that. The point that prompted me to write this review was two fold. I called them and asked some pretty leading questions. "Do you remove the tires from the rims to rotate them?" I asked as non informed as I could. I was told by another service tech that that would not be the way to do a proper rotation. To which I responded that they had not rotated the tires at all. This guy stumbled and stuttered and said I needed to talk to Jake! Well I left my name and number and asked to speak to Jake at his earliest convenience. That was 2 weeks ago, today's mail reminded me that I still need to make my appointment for an over priced brake job... If you can't rotate some tires during an oil change (assuming you actually changed my oil) and you don't have the professionalism to own up to a simple mistake and call me back, then send me junk mail to tell me I need to spend even more money, why would I ever come back?!?! They are very professional and don't really care if you buy the car from them, although after their none pressure approach, exposure to the dealership and what they offer, if you say yes, they Won't put you in a vehicle until the next day! I always have a great experience with them. I regularly get my oil changed there and anytime something goes wrong with my car I bring it to them. I have never felt as if they were trying to tack things on for me to fix just because and they always appear really honest. I work down the road and one day at 5 I walked out to a flat tire and I called them to see if I could somehow get my car there and have it fixed. Welcome to the sketchiest dealer ever. I drove from Grand Rapids, Michigan to purchase their 2016 Ford Transit-350 XLT, Vin number: 1FBZX2CG1GKA11213. I was shocked at closer inspection to find a rusted drywall screw holding on the driver-side rear fender, the driver side lower trim piece completely flapping, dents, scratches that were not disclosed. Worse than that, they played dumb on these issues, even though they have had it for over 4 months and have been driving it as their personal shuttle bus. Specifically, it was Ben who was wonderfully helpful on the phone, but once I got there in person he acted as if he never knew the issues. He did share how much the employees used it for personal use, and even bragged that their use of it was a "good thing" because it would mean it had been taken care of, which it wasn't. But then he switched to pressure sales when he realized I wasn't buying it. Be warned. UPDATE: Now Ben Kleis is having his mom and wife put positive reviews about him after blocking me and deleting my reviews. Seriously sketchy. read more

My wife wanted a new car so I said lets go to Barber because When I bought a ford escape from barber I was told they put some coating on my windshield free of charge,and I needed to go back there to get it re-applied.after I got there I found out when I bought my car they actually charged me $249. for that coating and wheel locks ( worth around $15. ) calling it barber safety.... If the owner/ sales mgr.would have maybe offered me some kind of refund maybe 50 bucks I would have been satisfied. The entire experience was as smooth and professional as possible. I was looking for a car after my disastrous experience with Car City in Wyoming, MI. I decided this time to stick with proper dealerships instead of a shady used car lot. I'm really glad I did. After shopping around to quite a few Ford dealerships in the area, I was contacted by Barber Ford for an appointment to asses my trade-in car and get pricing on a newer model used car. The staff worked around my work schedule to get me in and stayed after closing to help me set everything up. Although my credit was far from perfect, Barber actively shopped around financiers for me and found me the top three best deals. I chose from there and was driving off the lot with a newer model used car in my price range within a week. Outstanding customer service even with a poor credit customer buying a used car gets Barber 5 Stars. No outlandish interest or leasing scam here! Avoid at all costs. This place is the most dishonest service center I have ever been to. I had my clutch in my Ford replaced under the extended warranty, since Ford got busted and had to extend it. I took it to Barber to have it replaced. About 2 months later, the shuddering came back. Plus, it now has a growl at a certain rpm, which started when I got it back from them. Well, due to my work schedule, I couldn't get it back in there until last week. I am still under the mileage required by Ford for the clutch replacement. But, the guy at the service desk claimed that it could only be replaced once. I have never heard of a warranty on a vehicle that could only be used once. He also said that Barber warranties parts that they replace. But, even though I was within the time line, I had exceeded the mileage for that. Well, neither of those things were explained to me when I originally had my clutch replaced. So, according to them, I would now have to pay for it. What a bunch of crooks. To make it worse, during the 10 minutes they had my car, they somehow managed to lock my keys in it. So, they had to scuff the outside of the door to get the car unlocked. So please, take your car ANYWHERE but Barber Ford. read more

Recently purchased a new vehicle here. Awful sales experience when it came to their appraisal of my trade in. They gave me a low ball offer 30% below the low value on Edmunds for the make and model of my trade. They told my wife the vehicle was a ticking time bomb and their were many known problems that were just about to happen so this was absolutely the best they could do. I knew this was BS and immediately took the vehicle to another dealer to be appraised. They offered me 40% more than Barber and told me they could write me check right now. I didn't even need to buy a new car from them. I took their written offer back to Barber and asked to see the salesman . I was told he had gone for the day, so I asked to see the sales manager. After explaining the situation to him , magically my trade was no longer the ticking time bomb I was told it was just hours before. He actually beat the written offer I had from the other dealer. I got the vehicle I wanted and a fair price for my trade. You will not get it from Barber without a fight however. The leadership here has no issue using these untrue scare tactics if they think they can get away with it. I genuinely think most of the people that work there want to treat customers fairly and dislike these deceptive tactics. Leadership policy/ practice stops them however. I'm done with these guys and will buy elsewhere in the future. read more

Never trust a used car salesman. Barber Ford is one reason why that saying is still true. We purchased a 2008 Ford F-350 in late June 2019 from Barber Ford. At the time we had to pay cash for our truck and a 2008 was the best we could afford. We paid $21,000 for the truck and were told that a warranty on a 2008 vehicle could not be provided. We were told it was too old to get a warranty. The dealership's inspection report and the Carfax were provided. This truck was right on par with many other 2008 F-350's for sale in the area, everything seemed fine. We needed a powerful truck to tow our RV. We were going on a cross country adventure with our kids. Then all hell broke loose, immediately. 7/9/2019 Less than two weeks after we bought it, we had to replace the entire engine due to a cracked cylinder. $10,367.55 in Iowa. Barber Ford was kind enough to pitch in $3000 for the engine, on top of the $10,367.55 that we had to pay. At that point we thought this was just bad luck. 8/17/2019 The A/C stopped working, got it checked out in North Dakota, $134.30. They said that they could only refill for now or we'd be stuck there for a few days. 8/22/2019 Took the truck in for the A/C repair in Montana. They said that there wasn't a leak, they added fluid, $200.70. 8/30/2019 The A/C quit working again. A/C repair again at the same location. They discovered that someone had put a foam /sponge material in the truck to catch the leaking coolant, and thereby hide the leak. This is why they didn't find the leak until they took the whole dash off of the truck. Either the previous owner did this and Barber Ford didn't notice when they inspected the truck, or they found the leak and purposely concealed it. $1,411.29 to fix the A/C properly. 11/18/2019 Check engine light diagnosis in Washington $187.17. The actual repair needed was to replace both turbos $5,477.27 12/12/2019. As our children and I were approaching the freeway, the truck turned itself off. Literally, driving one second and riding in a silent truck the next. I was able to steer into a city park entrance and we were unharmed. If this had happened on the freeway, we could have been killed. The alternator went out, the batteries went with it and what connects them was melted. The auto shop also said that once they removed the alternator, they saw that it was a salvaged part from a junk yard. $1,895.38 this time. In total this truck cost us an extra $18,390.66 in repairs in less than six months and a grand total of $39,390.66. We had to cancel all our travel plans; our budget gone. I have the records for all of this. I have contacted Barber Ford a few times now and they claim that this has never happened before. They won't take responsibility because we don't have a warranty. They swear up and down that this has never happened before with one of their vehicles. Don't trust them with your money or your safety. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM. It has now been exactly a year since we bought this truck and we are stuck with this $40,000 piece of shit. read more

It shouldn't matter if I look like I just rolled outta bed or not , I expect nothing but exceptional customer service. Instead I get females behind the check out counter who would rather sit on their rear ends and holler for someone else to help me... Or if they do help me , they are as rude as can be. I live West of Chicago and found the car my daughter wanted at a great price at Barber Ford. I called the dealership and spoke with Dustin, very polite salesman. When we arrived to look at the car, it was in near perfect condition except for a small mark on the front bumper. Dustin got with his management team and offered to touch up the bumper and deliver to my home 200 miles away. The car arrived today and you could never tell there was anything wrong with it. I purchased a car from Barber Ford and was told it could be Certified longs I paid the money for it. I came the next day to complete the paperwork and there was an issue with the in service date now and it couldn't be Certified. I did not receive any notice of this before closing. I was ready to walk away from the car and find something else. I was roped into a tire and wheel policy for another $800 and a couple more thousand for an extended warranty instead. The detail job on the car was awful. There is dust in the vents, dirt on the seats, and cigarette butts in the dash by the window. For spending close to $23k I would expect better service. I got my first oil change and tire rotation at the dealership and they didn't record the tire rotation. Ever since I left I've had the low tire pressure has been going off on one of the tires. Bring the car in for recall work to be done and to look at the tire that is having issues and nothing is covered when Barber was the one that messed it up when rotation. Look at your paperwork and actually make sure they write down what they did. No more service going to be completed there. I should have used my Sam's club membership to have my tire looked at for FREE. read more

I would give them a zero if I could. The worst service department I've ever dealt with. Took my truck in for an oil change and opted for the car wash at the end. Apparently they take the antenna off your vehicle. They failed to put it back on my truck after the wash. They never called to let me know they have it. (they would have kept it if I didn't call) I had no idea where my antenna went, I finally figured out the last time my radio worked was on the way to my oil change. I called to see if they had it. They said they did. When I arrived at the dealership I asked them to go get my antenna, When he handed it to me, there was no apology or even a care that they forgot. I asked the service rep, Why couldn't you put it back on after you washed it. He said, "We could have" and that was it. They don't care about the customer at all. If your looking for rude employees who couldn't care less about your business than this is the place for you. I have been going here for service for over a year merely because its the only ford dealer within 45 minutes of my house. First off quick service for oil changes is a joke. Expect to wait an hour and a half on average to simply get an oil change. Not sure if anyone there knows how to use modern technology or a computer in general. Online scheduling is a joke. You make an appt online and then they call you tell you its not available. They don't actually use the system at all. Service experience is like every time your a new customer and they have no clue about your vehicle history. I have had a small leak in my gas line on my truck for 6 months and they didn't feel that was an urgent fix when I was there. Come back another time and they can take a look at it. Today was the kicker for me. My truck has been having issues shifting. Now today while on the highway the computer literally shut down and the speedometer shut off and the truck was hesitating to shift at all. Resulting in the truck losing power. I pulled over and started it back up and was able to get home luckily only two miles away. I call Barber and the service manager bluntly tells me in exact words, " I can't help you and don't have time to look at your truck. Maybe later next week." So a customer calls with an urgent issue and basically them you don't care and you are not willing to even try to help. Its shocking any company could give this kind of service and still be in business. I will never go back there again! read more

After having our car towed to Barber Ford in Holland, we were in dread of hearing it might take days to repair, or worse. But, no, that did not happen. Thanks to our Service Advisor, Daron Martinez, and a sharp mechanic, our problem was quickly diagnosed and repaired, and we were back on the road in record time. I am a long time Ford owner of many different vehicles. I love Fords. I was in town from out of state and my truck was towed in on July 4. I left 3 messages on the 5th for the service manager when my family was stranded, but did not receive any return calls. I finally drove a friend's car to the dealer to find out what was going on with the truck. Troubleshooting took exceptionally long with very little communication. I had to call over and over to find anything out. No loaner was offered. On the 6th, they eventually claimed that it was a fuel pump( even though they found debris in the line after the fact) and quoted one whole week to get a fuel pump for an F150, the most common truck on the road. Since I could not wait a week for the pump, I called Ihle Auto Service, who called Ford to ask for a part number and ask a few questions. Ford must have realized that they were about to lose business, because they SUDDENLY could get the part the next day. I was told they could get the part the next morning and have the car fixed by end of day Friday, July 7. I called Friday morning to make sure everything was on schedule and was told it was. I did not hear any more from them until 3:30 when they asked me if I was towing anything behind the truck to get home. I said, "no" and the manager seemed happy with that. He told me they put the new pump in, but still couldn't get the truck running and told me he would call back in 5-10 minutes with no further explanation. 45 min later he finally called back. I needed to get the family home, so instead of offering me a loaner until it could be fixed, the Service Manager talked to the used car manager, who offered to RENT me a vehicle for an additional $300 on top of the $700+ in repairs! When we hung up he said he would call back again shortly. He called back just before 5 and let me know they got the truck running that they had found some debris in the fuel line and once they cleared it the truck started fine (possibly just the debris and not a bad fuel pump after all). They finally let me know it was done a half hour before closing time on a Friday. Now I'm sure they will post a reply asking me to call them to "make things right".
