My son and I have been using this studio for years, and it's a great place to see the difference between whatever you get at Fantastic Sam's versus what an actual hair studio can be when it comes to getting a hair and beard trim, especially as a male. I didn't realize the difference before, but now I do, and I'd never have it any other way. Also, hot towels. I love hot towels. They have hot towels--and yes, a lot of places have them--but the way Modern Man uses them makes the experience that much better. And unlike some other male-oriented salons, they don't do the awkward neck massage with a little vibrating massager that's supposed to make a difference. It doesn't. The only difference it makes is increasing the chance I'll never return to that place. Modern Man has the formula down. Every visit I leave happy and I'm confident you'll feel the same way--especially if you use Danda (but all the stylists I've had are great!)...but don't book her up too quickly, or I won't be able to get an appointment. I'm sitting here right now with my boyfriend and I feel very discriminated against. We walked in and were hardly spoken to. Thought it was strange, but sat down anyways. A few more people walked in moments later, they were Hispanic as all of the barbers are as well as the round chick they have working as a receptionist who can't keep her eyes off me! The barbers let people who came in after us go first and we are still sitting here wondering if we are ever gonna be acknowledged other than the same round chick asking my boyfriend "what do you want?" What do you mean what does he want?! A flippin ice cream sundae? They've had a ton of random people come in and drink beers and leave and they are only speaking Spanish, which I speak as well, my boyfriend doesn't, and I know what they're saying is derogatory and rude. Idk man.... very strange way to run a business if you ask me. read more

Best haircut I have ever gotten. I was staying at the Hotel across the street and thought I'd give them a try. Stopped in was greeted with a huge smile from Chris, who happen to be the owner. Anytime I would speak after a question I would get cut off with a "Oh-ok". Sure enough when I left that chair one side was fuzzier than the other, I had red razor marks and above all my cut was uneven all around. I've never felt more embarrassed to walk back out just to be laughed at which again was what they were doing as I had my back turned walking out, and then having to go into work like that. I'm normally not someone to say anything but this was absolutely unacceptable and beyond unprofessional.

There's a salon on the other side of the building if you want that. I was a walk-in, no problem. Weekday around lunchtime, so only 1 guy cutting hair. Apparently there are up to three sometimes. While I was in the chair, two other patrons showed up. They didn't have to wait long. The place seemed clean and orderly. I received a good haircut. He took his time, and paid attention to detail. My wife had no complaints after (she always critiques my cuts). It was a bit pricey ($24) if you're a patron of Supercuts or Fantastic Sam's, but not out of line with others like Sports Clips. No coupons or punch cards, either. A shave would have been extra. The guy was friendly (I spaced his name - older guy). No masking. He didn't wear one, and I couldn't because I was getting a haircut. Which is mostly in-line with the rest of the businesses in Gilbert. I will probably return here. He did a good job.
