After many plans to stop at this eye catching cafe along Route 31N in Oxford, NJ we finally landed this beautiful sunny Thursday morning at Barbara's Cafe. Family owned business managed by siblings, Barbara and Magdalena. Foods are of Caribbean Dishes and American .They are prepared from scratch by Chef Barbara with the help of their 79 year old mother. We ordered mangu, a staple Dominican dish. It consists of mashed green plantains topped with onions and with salami, egg and Dominican fried cheese.(queso de freir). This dish is a must try, tastes good. Another dish that we tried since this is breakfast is the Greek Omelette, a healthy option and green juice. I was able to get green juice even they just serve this on lunch. Thanks Barbara. This drink is really good. Wishing a bigger container for that green juice which was freshly made. Our server, Magdalena( Maggie) was really very hospitable. She take good care of me and my wife. Outstanding service , had a nice time talking to her as well as explaining their different menus. Prices are very competitive. The place promotes enhancing experience. Cozy , relaxing place and is tidy , clean and well maintained as well as their restroom. Ample parking space and they have also outdoor seating. First time customers definitely not the last. We will be back to try the pernil and other Caribbean dishes. Note: open from Wednesday up to Sunday. They're closed on Monday and Tuesday. ( updated by Maggie to us). Common folks, try Barbara's Cafe and you'll love it.

As a City Girl, I'm soooo appreciating the changing face of Warren County. This new addition to Oxford of all places, is exponentially welcome!! They serve everything from breakfast sandwiches to bistek platters. Salads to Tres Leches cakes. I got my tried and true, the Pernil. The pernil tastes just like my favorite Dominican spots in Jersey City! Seasoned perfectly and purely delicious! The first thing I asked my server was if the pernil came with the cracklin skin and it did! Soooo good! It came with rice and beans and a side salad. The place is decorated with Country charm with ample tables inside and some tables out on the deck if you care to eat outside. And the prices are so reasonable. Can't beat that!

Mangú platter with extra onions- no salami (extra cheese was added instead)

In this area, I find it hard to find good Dominican food and I finally found a place who makes it perfectly! Ordered pickup and was ready within 10-15min! They also have excellent French toast that comes with a small amount of blueberries/strawberries just to make the dish look nicer! I opted out of getting the salami and they gave me extra cheese instead. I requested extra onions, and they gave me just the right amount! Very happy with this "hidden gem" of a cafe! Prices are reasonable and I will definitely be returning!

Awesome pernil, black beans and rice.

I tried Barbara's Cafe for the first time and the food was absolutely delicious. My Uncle and I both had the pernil with rice and black beans which were flavorful and perfectly cooked along with an order of tostones. The crisp on the pernil skin was perfect. Got to speak to the owner who was super friendly. Will definitely go back and it's awesome to have excellent Latin food so close by without having to drive an hour.

From the moment you walk in, the staff makes you feel genuinely welcome, like you're a regular even on your first visit. The food is absolutely outstanding fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. And I have to talk about that green sauce they serve on the side... whatever magic is in it, I could seriously put it on everything. It's that good. To top it all off, I tried their tres leches cake and it was perfection, moist, rich, and not overly sweet, just the way it should be. Amazing food, wonderful people, and flavors that keep you thinking about your next visit. Highly recommend!

It looked great. But, it was way way overrated, like the cook is in love and doesn't pay attention…read more while salting the food. Kid said it was saltier than the ocean. Also we went at night and the food was dry-ish, plantains were not fresh and yammy as u love them. Oxtail was dryyyy. Yukka (for extra $2) was dryyy. From the meat options we got the best was chicken, chicken in my (super salty) soup was perfectly cooked. Grilled chicken was great too, juicy with crunchy skin. Beans were cooked perfectly. Too much rice in every plate and not enough beans though. I really do t know if during lunch time all that food was freshly cooked and juicy and just got dried up by dinner time. I might give it another chance if I am in the area and super hungry, cos it was generously served.
