Great little pizzeria in Hico. Plenty of comfortable seating and parking, with handicap accessible, single occupancy restrooms. After you order at the counter you can watch the friendly, expedient, and attentive staff make your order in the wood fire oven you can view from each table. There is a pretty ample beer and wine selection--only a few basic beers on draft. For dinner, ordered bruschetta; pepperoni pizza; a BYOP with chicken, garlic parm sauce, and mushrooms; and a side salad. The side salad consisted of crisp romaine, sliced cherry tomatoes, and croutons. I opted for the honey vinaigrette. The salad was tasty but not revolutionary. Next up came the bruschetta. It was advertised as incorporating hot honey so we decided to go on a flavor adventure. The cheese they use was very wet and lumpy goat cheese. The basil and cheese really overpowered the hot honey and the tomatoes were overcooked and whole cherry tomatoes. No balsamic that I noted. Definitely not a traditional bruschetta and also not one I would order again, but it wasn't terrible. My husband wouldn't stop raving about the marinara sauce on his pepperoni pizza. He also loved the airy, wood-fired crust. On my BYOpizza, I enjoyed the crust, as well. It was not overly tough nor overly thin and had a great taste. The mushrooms must have been sautéed in a way to make Julia Child proud. They were amazing and well complemented by the herb roasted chicken and garlic Parmesan sauce. Highly recommend this combo. So sad to see they have changed their menu and removed so of the best items, one of which was the meatball sandwich. It was the best ones I ever had and what I ordered almost everytime I come here. Ordered the Italian sub and although it was good, it in no way wowed me and definitely not one tell someone to go there and order it like I did with the meatball sub. We have gone to Barbacelli's multiple times and really enjoyed it!! We decided to go again one evening (drove 45 minutes). We ordered the mozzarella sticks, which we had before. This time they were barely warm in the middle. Husband ordered chicken wings (garlic Parmesan) and they had no flavor whatsoever. Then my Margherita Pizza came, which had many burnt spots on the crust, to the point that the pizza had a burnt taste. How could you even feel good about serving this? They remade the pizza for us, after saying something about it. This time the crust was barely done. I think the younger people working there need a bit of training!! It's going to go downhill! Try the beesting pizza don't try the cheese pizza. Or at least ask for less cheese on the pizza in my opinion. Service 5/5 but I did come in towards the night around 8 so it wasn't packed. I made the mistake of not eating the pizza right away. I drove less than 5 miles to a nearby hotel/motel and the pizza was alright but I swear it would've been better if I just ate my takeout at the restaurant. My new favorite pizza place? I think so! This is another hidden gem. Just a couple blocks off the main highway in Hico in a historic building, this place is awesome. The pizzas are handmade and wood fired. And they're great. I love the Beesting with sausage, fresh basil, tomatoes, and a drizzle of hot honey. So good! The portions are large for one or pretty easily shareable by two if you're not starving. (I like my own and then bring home a few extra slices for later.) There's also a bar area and some craft brews, so that's a plus as well. Service comes with a smile and it's always a welcoming place when I'm passing through Hico. Try this place. I want to love this place but every time I order, there is an issue with food or something weird. On the plus side - the place has a great vibe, the pizza ingredients seem solid and I like the wood-fired taste. It's a cute place. The pizzas are on the small side and maybe a little expensive expensive, but that's to be expected - everything seems expensive post-Covid. Warning for french fry lovers - these are not typical. Made from fresh potatoes which is good but they season them with sugar ?!? and some sort of cheese/herbs? It's the weirdest combination. I would understand it better if it was an appetizer and the name somehow implied what you're receiving but to assume you're getting a meal of some sort with french fries ... getting a sugary version is disappointing. Today mine were undercooked and soggy. I asked for my Philly to hold the ranch, and they said "no ranch??" like that is somehow normal. I said no thanks and they said something about putting it on the side. Of course ranch came on the sandwich and it was gross. Waste of $16 a sandwich doused in ranch and sweet/cheesy french fries. Don't skip the place based on my review, the pizza is good but just be careful checking what you ordered and I don't know what you do with those french fries. read more

Unlike another review I read for this restaurant... they were extremely quick with all of our food and it was served to us all at one time which kept the food nice and hot!! Service was good. Salad was disappointing. $11 for some lettuce chopped into half inch pieces and a couple of croutons. The lettuce was starting to show a little brown on the cut edges. I think it's safe to say that no one working there is into good salads. I was disappointed in the atmosphere, too. The vibe I got from the website is this is a high end place, like Olivella's in Fort Worth. But when we got there, it felt more like a sports bar. They're making the same mistake as Zoli's in Fort Worth - not enough atmosphere. A great pizza place should have a vibe like Cane Rosso or Olivella's - dark, kind of intimate, a place where you can go and have great food and great conversation with your S.O. or a group of friends. On to the pizza. The pizza is the only thing I wasn't disappointed in. The crust was PERFECT. No one in Texas seems to think the crust is important. They seem to think it's just something to hold the toppings. But not these guys. Great crust - chewy with a nice crunch, just the right thickness, exactly the right amount of salt. I could even taste the yeast from the fermentation. The only place in Texas that has better crust is all the way out in Marfa, and that guy ferments his dough in the fridge for 3 days before he makes a pizza out of it. Toppings were also tasty. Had the right amount of sauce - not too much, not too little. Sauce had a good flavor, too - not too sweet. About the only criticism I had about the pizza is there was too much cheese on mine - which is more a personal preference than a criticism, I guess. Overall, the pizza was off the hook. The pizza here is right up there with Zoli's and Olivella's in Fort Worth. It's BETTER than anything I've had in Austin or Houston. The salad plus the lack of atmosphere would have earned 3 stars, but the pizza saved the day. This is good pizza. I prefer to drive down 281 instead of dealing with the crazy traffic on I-35 when I head down to Austin, so I will be stopping in here again. read more

We took family up to Hico for some afternoon shopping and tried this place for the first time. The menu is great-plenty of things to choose from, including sandwiches for a teenager who doesn't like pizza (I know, it's like finding a unicorn). We purchased three pizzas and three appetizers for five people (well, technically four) and ended up taking almost an entire pizza home, so definitely order to share! I tried the Bee Sting and loved it!! It was a little spendy, although the guys got beer and with all the food we got, I guess it's no surprise it was $130 for five people. Also, my pizza crust was so soggy with the cheese and honey that I was forced to eat it with a fork. That's the only reason they don't get five stars. We'll be back for sure! read more

I have no idea how this place has as many positive reviews it does. First off it's expensive for a small town. Definitely caters to the tourist. Second, a party of 4 and they slowly brought out food out, one item at a time over 10-15 minutes!!! Just stupid. But I guess they want you to have each item hot as it comes out of the oven. No plates for the appetizers that are for everyone. Fries were soooo salty I couldn't eat them. Sent them back and they came back with none of the toppings as before. To be really picky dough was just the very slightest bit underdone making it a little chewier than I like but I know with a wood fire it's extraordinarily hard to determine doneness and not overcook/burn the pizza. First of all the little town of Hico is a great little destination visit. All the buildings and stonework probably built in the late 1800s really lends to the atmosphere of the city.
