I had never looked into selling jewelry before, and was embarrassed because I didn't know what had value and what might be costume. I contacted a couple of places in the area to inquire about sorting and possibly selling, and Jamie got back to me same-day detailing the entire process. I asked a few more questions, and got quick, knowledgeable replies as well (throughout the evening!). When I was ready to schedule the appointment, Jamie got me in the exact day I was hoping for! The building was easy to find, and I got street parking right in front of it. I was greeted immediately by his assistant who was super friendly, and while Jamie was wrapping up with his last customers his assistant began to start the process instead of having me wait! They had COVID-19 precautions: Everyone was wearing masks, the two desks were at least six feet apart with shields separating customers and staff, and they had protocol for keeping the pens sanitized and separated from those that had been touched. Jamie was also really friendly and clearly knows what he's doing. He sorted my items right away, and my nerves about bringing in costume jewelry were totally calmed because while I did have a bunch of items with no value, Jamie never made me feel like I was wasting his time or let me feel ashamed of what I'd brought in. He even complimented some off the pieces which was awesome. While sorting, he showed me exactly how he was measuring and determining them and included me in the entire process. Then, after identifying pieces of value, Jamie made me an offer! I had two sentimental pieces in there that I wasn't sure about selling, and Jamie immediately told me he'd always rather I wait until I'm ready if I'm unsure. Then, he offered a price for the remaining pieces instead! I left knowing about all of my jewelry, I kept the two I wasn't ready to let go, and still got to walk out with a check. I couldn't imagine a better outcome! Also: Apologies that I have forgotten the assistant's name (and that I keep calling her the assistant when she may have a completely different title)! But I just wanted to add that the customers who were there when I arrived included a kid. I have a fairly inexpensive silver ring with a Tigers Eye crystal in it that serves as my wedding ring. After dropping it (twice) enough of the crystal had shattered that I needed to get it replaced. After searching through a half dozen "big box" stores my fiancee and I found this gem in the Ballard area and were not disappointed. The biggest issue we had with the other stores were that we often saw a lot of the same rings and settings in each store, nothing seemed overly personal. We didn't want to buy a ring that she might see someone else wearing a few years down the road, we wanted it to be more personal. Our experience with Jamie at Baraka was the complete opposite. He sat down with us as my fiancee explained the type of rings she liked and he showed us several rings and settings and encouraged us to pick out a bunch of styles we like on his website and send the list to him. A week or two later he had the actual rings she picked out shipped in so every ring we looked at was suited to her particular tastes. We even used our own stone and he was able to create the perfect custom ring for her and we couldn't be happier with the result! His website has literally thousands of styles and options to choose from so even the choosiest of people will have something that suits them. Not only that, but the prices were right in line with the other stores, and often even less than them. Needless to say, we'll be coming back to Baraka for all of our jewelry needs moving forward. Jamie is no salesman. He's a guy that knows what he's talking about, and wants to see you get the piece that's going to make you the most happy with the lowest amount of pressure possible. There's some other jewelry store you hear about on the radio all of the time that says something along the lines of "shop around but make sure you visit us at so-and-so jewelry". But from the moment I walked into this store until the moment the check was cut, Jaime did nothing but bad mouth my ring. It was a 1 carat heirloom, an elegant emerald and diamond ring that belonged to my mother. This was wrong with it, that was wrong with it, while showing "comparable" stones for which he had paid a pittance. He said, Forget the appraised price which is inflated to fool the insurance companies. In my experience insurance companies are not fools.
