The sangria was light and refreshing, not overly sweet like how other white wine sangrias can be. I like how they added berries in it to add a decorative touch. The palmer was well-balanced and more citrus-y than it was fruity. Also pretty refreshing for a hot day. I've noticed in general that most of the drinks here are mixed well; they don't err on being too sweet or too strong, just well-balanced with the flavors not trying hard to dominate one another in the drinks.

We shared the truffle tots as an appetizer and they were delicious and perfect fried. I got the chicken Cesar wrap for my meal. Overall it was good, nothing special and honestly it was pretty bizarre to have croutons in a wrap. The fries were good but nothing beat those tots. We had a credit from The hotel to dine and our waitress once she learned this got immediately defensive and basically told us in many ways that we were lying and couldn't use the credit. After much back & forth with her she finally got in touch with management and changed her tune when she returned to our table to tell us she was mistaken and it was taken care of. Definitely not appropriate customer service at all on her part. We paid the reminder of our checks, tipped on the total minus our credit and couldn't get out of there fast enough.

At that point, we should've just left, but since my friend had never been, we stuck it out to try the themed Christmas cocktails. Once inside, there was a two-drink minimum per person, which is kind of crazy. It feels like they jip you either way...cover or no cover, minimum spend or not. While waiting outside (for no real reason, since it was empty), we chatted with a party of six who came straight from Ash (the sister restaurant upstairs). They'd just spent over $1,000 on their meal and were still getting charged a cover to enter Alter Ego. That's poor business, don't force extra fees to guarantee money when good music, drinks, and vibes should bring people in naturally and make them want to spend. There's plenty of places on Water Street with great (and I'd say better) cocktails where you're not forced into minimums or covers. The Christmas cocktail menu was disappointing too, poor selections and way too sugary. Love the potential here, but the strict policies really turned me off and made me want to go elsewhere next time.

They have a small food menu, but everything on the menu looked delicious, but I did not eat there. This speakeasy is attached to a British pub which I went for food after. We left about 230 although I'm sure we could've been in and out in an hour if we needed to be. The parking lot had tons of empty spaces for lunch. We started with the oceanic role, which was very good. Then for my main, I got the seafood cob without bacon, I would highly recommend it was absolutely delicious. I also got a side of truffle fries because my sister wanted to try it. The truffle fries also had a good amount of Parmesan cheese on it. I would highly recommend if you like truffle fries it's not the super skinny kind it's slightly thicker, but delicious nonetheless. My sister got a fillet. She ate half of it and said it was pretty good. I'm sure she'll have her own review if you want more details on what she thought of her fillet. She also got a gin martini with a twist. They are not skimpy on their pours, they actually had more than one glass worth of martini so they had her take a couple sips so they could fill it back up to the top of the glass. It was very strong and two martinis meant she was definitely not OK to drive, so if you're the type of person that wants a two drink lunch, you might want to try a different drink or just go for one of these. Since I work for a healthcare tech startup I don't see people in suits that often so it was really interesting to me to see so many people in suits here for lunch. By 230 we were one of the only people left in the restaurant. There is tons of space so I don't think you have to worry about reservations if you're coming here for lunch. There is also a patio that is fully enclosed that has giant windows for you to see the lake outside, it looks like a beautiful place to sit.
