HPC has been a long time Tampa staple! The new owners haven't done much to revamp this classic. I sat outside and it was so hot and humid There were no fans, no misters for patrons outside. Younger crowd, majority of the ages ranged from 18 to 20 if I had to guess, music was pretty good and space was really cool. Drinks were super cheap and they had a deal when we got there (did have to pay cover). Wish they used the outside dance floor but the inside one was a great temperature. Wouldn't be my go to spot for clubbing but I will definitely come back on occasions. read more

I came to this establishment when I was visiting Tampa, and might I add this was quite the establishment, but not in a positive manner. I'm no expert when it comes to verifying the ages of individuals, but I could for sure tell a majority of the patrons were UT kids (UT= University of Tampa), and w/ out a doubt underage. With that being said, in graduating college a couple years ago, I want to go out w/ like minded business professionals and have a good time/conversation, not be surrounded by college kids ordering cheap shots and getting black out drunk. The vibe was cool because of my friends however I can see why they are getting slow business. The bouncer at the door was rude and short with me, miserable person. The bar tenders were very rude as well I couldn't believe they thought so highly of themselves and looked down on others with their attitude I was literally one of the few people actually buying drinks for them, and leaving a tip they sucked! A couple friends and I decided to hit up HPC for Halloween weekend, and after waiting an hour and a half in line, we were verbally harassed by the so called 'owner'. He approached one of my friends and asked him to move, to which my friend asked where he should move. The owner responded by accusing him of being 'incoherent' and asked him to leave. This lead to nearly a 20 minute altercation, where he called us 'stupid', 'incompetent', and threatened to call the cops on us multiple times. Walking by this business last weekend and i see the owner/manager who appeared to be a 50-year-old man, aggressively came after a college age kid who was standing in line. They were exchanging words when suddenly the OWNER/manager swung at the kid! Completely unprofessional and unacceptable for an adult to not manage their emotion and take the first swing at a customer who was approximately 21-years-old. When we finally got in this is what they charged us: 1 guy over 21 - $32 1 girl under 21 - $22 2 girls over 21 - $12 each 1 girl over 21 - $27 My friends and I tried to find out how much the cover was before we went but couldn't find it anywhere. Now we know why. We didn't make it in time to get on the free guest list because the line was about 1 hour long. Before we waited in line I asked a bouncer how much cover was. He told me $10 for girls over 21, $20 for girls under 21, and $15 for guys over 21. If you're wondering what the cover is for HPC, they charge you whatever price they feel like charging you. They also split our group up and the few of us that got in the club first had to wait another 20 minutes for the rest of our group to be allowed in. The club itself just wasn't very fun. The music wasn't very good. There was one room filled to the brim with people and it felt like there was no air conditioning. My friends and I love to dance but it was so hot. The other "dance floor" had no one in it. The bars were packed and it takes forever to get drinks. There are plenty of clubs and bars that let you in for free on certain days and times (For 18+ I recommend The Ritz and for 21+ I recommend McDintons). HPC is not worth the ridiculously expensive cover. read more

Since 1995, I've always had a good time at HPC. Whether I am a guest DJ or simply basking in the House music vibe with cigar in hand, HPC always satisfies. I normally go on Tuesday night to hear Jask spin or on Fridays to hear Busto spin. They both provide the new and classic House jams. It's the only place in town to hear this stuff! Moreover, the music is common ground for me and my chica. I'm primarily old school Hip-Hop and she's Death Metal, but we both have a strong fondness for Nu-Disco, House and Electronica. I don't know why I always end up here on Friday nights. Not really complaining though. OK first off, for the most part the staff are excellent and so friendly and I have to give them great props for that. I can't complain about the drinks. I've gotten a few free shots here from bartenders and one time someone who said he was the owner or manager or something (maybe he was, maybe he wasn't who knows)... and if I'm feeling daring I'll redeem my free yelp check-in offer (but that's kind of awkward so I've only done it once). Anyways, goodbye paycheck, I always lose you at the bar here, but the free shots and fun times make up for it I suppose. The venue is interesting and has something for everyone: one part dimly lit strip club-esque lounge where you can sit and drink from bottles (my favorite section), one part open-air outdoorsy area with lots of plants, lights and people smoking hookah, and the final part a large wrap around bar and small dance floor where things get crazy. There are a lot of bars scattered throughout.... at least four or five. Anyways, 93.3 FLZ broadcasts from here pretty often, so if you like vocal trance and watching people make out, then this is your scene. If not, you have to just live in the moment here and not think too hard about it. Whenever I do, I tend to wonder "WTF I am doing here! I'm not cool/attractive/drunk/(fill in the blank) enough." Oh well.... They offer valet parking but I've never used it. There are parking spots around the surrounding neighborhoods if you're lucky, plus tons of cabs. They also sell pizzas at the end of the night, never tried that either, but it's a nice concept. Overall, HPC is a fun place to go late nights on the weekend if you're looking for a fun dance club and some crazy people-watching. read more

I heard a lot of good things about HPC, including it was one of the best nightclubs in Tampa for top 40s music. Maybe that's true on Saturdays, but I came for Thanksgiving Eve. They are normally closed Wednesdays, and it's normally not 40 degrees in Tampa. The second issue-the weather-shouldn't affect the music, but maybe the DJ felt he could mix things up since it was slow. As for the first issue-the off night-maybe it wasn't a top 40s night. The promotional company advertised it as top 40 and hip hop, and there was lots of hip hop, but also lots of Miami bass and almost no top 40. It's a nice enough place. 2 rooms with different music. The room they were doing Latin in was nicer, and much more space and a bigger bar. Maybe that's because Latin dancing involves a lot more movement then just raising your hands in the air every time Lil John tells you to, but I don't know. They also have an awesome patio between the rooms. Lots of space to move around and relax and take a break from dancing. On this night, they had space heaters around, but they were no use against the cold front. $5 cover for me (free for my girlfriend) is reasonable. Drinks were strong, bartenders friendly and attentive. And I liked the venue, though I would have preferred the "top 40" room be bigger. The biggest issue was music. Just didn't think it was that good and certainly lacking in the advertised top 40. In fairness, most of the patrons were enjoying it and having a blast. We had fun too, but the music left a lot to be desired for us. I think I need to check it out again on a regular Saturday and see if the music is better. Will update my review when I do. read more

!YOUNG LADIES BEWARE! My step daughter came here with her friend last Friday night and had a very scary experience. While dancing with two boys, their cellphones were lifted from their pockets (by the same boys that were dancing with them) one boy immediately left and the other stayed behind pretending to help. He immediately offered his phone but it had no internet service. He insisted they step outside to use the phone and even offered them a ride home. Thank goodness my step daughter felt uncomfortable and refused. The staff and security offered no assistance to help them get a call out. I literally got drugged here despite holding my drink close to my body all night. I didn't call management and tell them but reading other reviews they probably wouldn't have cared. The worst part is I told my friends who go out in soho that I was drugged here and their response? "Yeah that happens all the time there". Be careful out there, soho is notoriously bad but I've been told this place is one of the worst. I know MULTIPLE girls who have or suspected they were drugged here. Really hip bar/club. Two separate club rooms, with different music, separated by an open air courtyard. Multiple bars and couches to lounge on. Upscale dress code. Came here randomly on a Tuesday for the first time in probably 6 years or more. Nothing had changed, it was still busy as anything, the vibes were good, music was good. The only thing I noticed that changed, was the wall behind the tables in the room to the far right. We got bottle service here and the service was fast, efficient and friendly. It was extremely cheap, only $150 for a bottle of Ketel One. The tables are still very small and compact, so it's not really a VIP experience but more just somewhere to sit down. It's not like I'm a regular here or that I will be back anytime soon but my only suggestion is: get those bathrooms renovated! read more

Easily the worst experience I've had at any establishment in Tampa. The drinks were ok and the crowd was fine, but the bouncers were completely out of control. One in particular, Sergio, was picking fights with everyone. This made for a very hostile environment. I first noticed him when he plowed through a dozen people to drag someone outside. His reason for doing so: the guy was standing too close to the VIP table. There was no warning, just instant violence. When the guy's friends asked Sergio why he did it, he said "mind your own f***ing business." He continued to be completely out of line and acted aggressively towards everyone. His violent behavior was equivalent to someone you'd expect to find in a prison, not a reputable club. The owner seemed to condone this behavior because apparently Sergio has been working there for a while and has built quite a negative reputation. There have been several similar instances in the past. Long story short: unless you get bottle service, prepare to be treated like trash. Also, prepare to defend yourself in case you get attacked by Sergio. read more

A friend and I were looking for a nice place with Latin music and ended up here, after some research online. Big mistake! Cute place, but a very young crowd (20's), I'm 37 & felt very old surrounded by kids. The music was ok. A lot of reaggeton, which I like, but barely any salsa/merengue/bachata. One dance floor was absolutely packed and the other one was empty. Happy hour special was a great value. Also, I left my CC after paying my tab and have been trying to contact the place, leaving several messages with out any response. NOT good customer service. So, if you are looking for a classy, Upscale dance club with a more mature crowd that plays good Latin music, this is NOT IT. We will keep looking. read more

I came here as part of a birthday weekend and I absolutely love this place except for a few things. The bartender kept changing the price of the same shot every single time. I think she suspected we were drunk and wouldn't notice but after I caught on, we went to another bartender. I also think she was pocketing the money. I did not see her put the money in any register and since she kept changing the price, I believe she thought that if we had exact change, she would not have to ring it up and give us change back. I have been a bartender for 12 years and I have seen all sorts of scams. On the positive side, the decor and vibe is great. The DJ was awesome and there is plenty of space for everyone. The funniest part of the night was seeing a giant oversized stuffed bear sitting in a barstool. I would go back, I would just be forewarned of this bartender. We signed up for New Year's Eve pre-11pm FREE admission days ago, and after making us wait in line for an hour they forced us to pay $25 each (it was still before 11pm when this happened) to get in despite we were already on the free guest list. The best place to ruin your night. I have been here with different groups of friends, and I love the outdoor/indoor clubs...Prive South Beach anyone? This place however, my friends and I are not fans. I wonder how this can be across the street from one of the best dining/nightspots in Tampa and still manage to get the upscale feel sooo wrong. This club is much better when you're over 21. They don't hassle you at the door and if you get on the guest list via local promoters you can get in for free. I came Tuesday night to meet a friend. It was their Techno/Trance music night (they still played plenty of Top 40 mixed in as well). I got there early and everyone was chilling outdoors. I never really spent much time outside of the dance room before, while I was out there though I noticed it is actually pretty nice. They really decorated it well and theres 3 bars outdoors. The early crowd was older people probably late-20s to 30s. It was freezing cold, but they had those heat warmer poles so I was huddling under there until the dance floor opened. The dance floor is pretty spacious and I was able to dance without a problem until around 1:30am which is normally when clubs get the most traffic anyway. The music mixes were great and I had lots of unique mixes I haven't heard anywhere else. The bartender was cool as well and made my drink pretty good. It was probably still cheaper to drink at The Rack and then walk over to Hyde Park Cafe, but I didn't feel like going back and forth. There was plenty of people in my age group later in the night and it wasn't just an older crowd. HPC was a good time this time. I'd go back. read more

HPC is my go to club. There are two rooms and on Fridays they play latin music in one of them. Drinks are a little pricey but not unaffordable for a night out. If you show up on happy hour you can take advantage of the cheaper drinks. The staff is only mean if you are annoying or are too drunk to walk. The bouncers are always doing their job. If you're social enough and not dumb drunk they even greet you. I remember one of the bouncers asking us if we had a good time as we were leaving. People giving 1 star reviews are Karens and dudes who don't have the game to talk to girls. read more

When my youngin' coworkers want to do happy hour on Fridays, this is where we go. Why? Because for $10 you can drink all that you can handle from 8-10 pm. Most of HPC is outdoors, but the bar to the left when you walk in is air conditioned. The line is unnecessary for such a small place off of Howard - I think that most people there feel that they are in a nightclub in a big city. Came to HPC for happy hour and dead honest, you can't go wrong. The vibe, the people, the drinks. Even though some people might have the misconception that this is a college scene, it's a pretty open..yet crazy environment! If you're coming for the all you can drink 8-10PM happy hour, I would suggest coming early because the line does get pretty long. The staff were pretty nice, well as nice as an all you can drink bartenders can be. With everyone shoving and pushing themselves to the bars, I really do commend them for being so nice and friendly. Even though they were swamped with people, they still took the time to decently make us all drinks. Now about the drinks, they tasted somewhat watered down. Not sure if it was just me, but it took us quite a few drinks to reach that tipsy stage. Other than that, they give you a pretty basic selection of drinks too choose from so you have some freedom. I mainly chose to give this place a 2 star review after my most recent experience here last weekend. My friend was celebrating his birthday and we had a party bus drop us off. He had arranged beforehand to have the cover charge waived for all the guys since it's pretty typical at this place. We got there pretty early and were the only group here. A couple of us who are avid Yelpers checked in and noticed the check in deal for a "free shot" when you check in on Yelp. After about 30 minutes of hanging out and paying full price for drinks we approached the bartender to claim our free shots. We were told to go to the front as they would need to give us a ticket or something to that nature. When we did that we were told since we had not presented this when we walked in that it didn't apply to us. Not that there is any stipulation listed on their check in deal nor did anyone inform us of this at the bar itself. Seems very odd that they would have a check in offer and choose not to honor it. What's the point of that??? Anyhow, that didn't ruin the rest of the night for us and we had a decent time for the hour or so that we spent here. It did start to get a little busier as the night went on, but it is by no means what it used to be a few years ago. read more

I was in in Tampa visiting a friend and stopped by. Hyde Park Cafe sits in that genre of club that is attempting to be more upscale. You should expect to be treated poorly if you don't fit the image of the experience in nightlife that they are hoping to create. That's part of the fun. One writer wrote about it being difficult for those that are under 21. For those of us over 21, that's a bit of a plus, particularly as the nightlife scene in FL can often be under 21. Bottles are a great way to go if you are with a ton of friends and don't want to hassle too much. I like that there is outdoor and indoor space with which to enjoy the gorgeous Florida weather. A great way to chill out and get a little bit of quiet if you are there with or meet someone you might actually want to talk to while at the club. The music is acceptable. It's a tiny dance floor is fairly good size all things considered. If you're out of town visiting, this is probably the place you want to go if you are looking for nightlife. I give it 3 stars, only because I am comparing it to similar experiences outside of local Tampa. read more

First of all: 18 and over club.....Hyde park cafe advertised "an oasis devoted to house" and played the worst and most influenced with other music house out there. The dj just mixed Latin songs with a house beat or trance songs with a house beat in the background. If you truly love house, this place is not for you. Stay far away. Hahaha it's not you, it's me. I am 34 years old, I walked in and felt like I was at a high school house party. I have never felt so far out of place. I was drinking wine that night so when I got to HPC I wanted to have more wine and the only wine they had was mini bottle of barefoot merlot. I just couldn't; and I really am not a snobby wine drinker. Again, my mind went back to my high school days. Also I am not a big fan of the music that was being played that night, and I know for sure it wasn't a DJ worth the ridiculous cover charge. Well, I'm just embarrassed. As many times as I've been to Hyde Park Cafe, I haven't written a review. Although it's been a while, there was a good period of time where this was my Saturday evening spot. The individual pizzas are tasty, the outside bar area is comfortable, and they have a great selection of beers. Personally, I'm a fan because they keep Strongbow on tap. While I've never ventured inside for more than a quick bathroom break, I can vouch for the atmosphere in their renovated patio. With two bars outside and a third in an enclosed room off the patio, your glass won't stay empty for long. When I was there last, I tended to show up early and cash in on the great happy hour deals. That said, I usually left right around the time the night club scene started to trickle in so I can't comment on how it is after 10:00 p.m. But knowing they have plenty of drinks and scrumptious pizzas, what more do you need? read more
