We shared two pizzas with salads along with drinks and desserts and everything was perfect thanks to the excellent recommendations from our server. As for our wait staff, Meagan, she was top notch in every aspect. We thought we were just stopping for a quick meal and getting back on the road to continue our journey south. But Meagan's insights, engagement and recommendations quickly had us rethinking our intentions. Oh my god, I'm still dreaming of my meal here. Who would've thought in a kind of dead looking downtown where The Office show was based that you would find such an impressive and scrumptious spot. My friend and I came after a long rainy day of driving to "get away" with no plans or expectations but decided to try Bar Pazzo, and boy am I glad we did. Found this gem while traveling to Scranton and I can't wait to go back! It's an upper scale Italian pizza place and you immediately felt like you were in a big city restaurant. I got the meatballs because literally everyone told me I MUST have them and they did not disappoint! Only sad part was forgetting them in my hotel fridge the next morning. I also got the Spring Onion Soup which was a take on French Onion but I found it off putting. Pungent cheese and the fat too large piece of crusty bread soaked up all the soup. Wow, what an excellent find! We arrived on NYE night with no reservations, to a packed restaurant and all they had available was the "pizza bar". We were so happy to sit there, since you got to watch all of the pizza prep, and see all the pizza and various bread cook in their wood-fired oven. We visited friends in Scranton and had a great time here. We were told their menu has changed and there used to be a an amazing bread basket which is no longer on the menu. We had the whipped ricotta which was amazing and the Margherita Pizza as starters. Both things 10/10. We also had the octopus which was just perfect. The drizzle of lemon on top and potatoes complimented the whole appetiser well. I also had the Tartufo pizza since I love white sauce pizzas but it wasn't my favorite. Overall though, the food was good. Our server was the kindest and had she had great suggestion and was very quick with refills of our drinks. Yum. Just yum. Daughter and I swung through Scranton on our recent trip. Local friends suggested Bar Pazzo for Sunday brunch. What a gem of a place in downtown Scranton! When we arrived at 11 AM, the place was nearly empty, but that quickly changed. We spent a delightful 2 hours catching up with our friends and savoring the amazing food. Daughter and I split two dishes... a sweet breakfast pizza with berries and marscapone (can't recall name) and the avocado toast (minus the egg). Both were wonderful! Great spot! The food was phenomenal especially for the price point. The waiter was knowledgeable and attentive, the owner checked in on our table which was nice. We had a ton of food I had the Polpette (Italian Meatballs) as an app, at first I thought 3 meatballs wouldn't be enough, but they were quite large and absolutely delicious. Also had the Margherita pizza which was also great (I'm a bit of pizza snob). My buddy had the charcuterie board that was also delicious. I can keep going on all the different food but the point is that everything we ate was fantastic. Haven't been to a restaurant in a long time where I truly enjoyed every single platter served. I drank a New York Sour that was mediocre but the food was absolutely on point. My friends really enjoyed the wine and the dessert options sounded amazing as well but we were so full, that we just shared some zeppole which were solid but not amazing. Im going to go straight to the food - because the service was amazing. We started with a charcuterie board and the cheese options were SOO good and the overall board looked amazing! The best part really was the pasta. I ordered a dish recommend by the server and I have no regrets. I don't remember the name but according to the description - the noodles are spaghetti like and are served from a black skilled pan and are burned at the top making the noodles crispy. So. Good. Somebody in the kitchen was flexing today because the duck wings were off the freaking hook. Top 5 dishes I've had in a year or more. Caramelized radicchio was a really nice touch...pulled off in spades. Meatball was sick. Not one of those bready things, had a good sausage like texture and the sauce was, to me, a pomodoro with a medium grated cheese broiled to lovely finish. Salad was baby kale with mature apple and TONS of pecans (don't remember if they were sugared), with an oldish tasting balsamic and a light goat cheese dressing, some olive oil. Awesome. This is a great little wood fired pizzeria ala trattoria. It's relatively new is quite hip & trendy with folks. It's located on Franklin Ave in one of the Scranton's down town pre-war buildings. It's a medium sized open industrial space with exposed heating, venting & lighting. Lots of clean lines & and thematically very simple. The tables & chairs are Java colored & the walls as light warm taupe grey. There is a small full service bar as you enter on the left. To the right there's s few tables & a small gelato counter. The kitchen is open concept & you can watch the artisans working away from most of the four tops spread about the dining areas. There's also 2 areas of Counter seating: one along a wall & another looking into the wood fired ovens & kitchen area. My server was Kristi. She greeted me within minutes of being seated & took my drink order. She was friendly, nice, helpful, efficient, & professional. I ordered a Peroni & it was on the table in minutes with a tall glass of ice water. The menus is varied with an emphasis on wood fired pizza but they also have nice selection of appetizers, salads, & entrees. Everything sounded delicious. I settled on the octopus appetizer which consisted of roast octopus, golden potatoes, raisins, green Italian olives & sprinkled with bread crumbs. This was our favorite place during our Poconos trip. It's an upscale restaurant with reasonable prices. Beautiful decor, excellent service and delicious food. We had the cheese stuffed date appetizer which we loved, the chicken, leak barley soup (very good) and a wood fired pizza which is their specialty. They have these cool pizza ovens that you're going to want to see. Great drinks at the bar. The only complaint I have is that they're closed on Sundays!
