It had been on our radar for some time, but we hadn't managed to get there until this afternoon. We were on the brink of having a much more mundane meal, but found ourselves at Ole. It sits in a building on the edge of an industrial area. The colors and decorations are warm and reminiscent of the Mediterranean. Although a bit more upscale than your standard casual eatery, we were welcomed enthusiastically despite our shorts and flip-flops. Our waitress, Alex, was a real gem from the start. She made us feel at home, gave us a rundown of some of the more popular items, and even adjusted my wife's mocktail to suit her taste. I don't remember what it was called, but I believe it was pomegranate and fig and was quite delicious. Neither one of us had a traditional mais as there were so many delicious looking small plates. We ended up with the beef burak, sliders, mussels in saffron cream sauce, Ole salad, whipped feta, and patatas bravas. I can definitely recommend all of these dishes. The saffron cream sauce the mussels came in was truly luxurious in flavor and not at all overpowered by the garlic. There was plenty of fresh crostini to go around, much of it roasted with olive oil and rosemary. The patatas Bravas were wickedly crispy, and the smoked paprika sauce was addictive. The whipped feta had just the right amount of honey drizzled over it to create a delightful contrast without being overly sweet. The sliders were excellent and a reasonably good size to boot. There were three of them, and they were topped with a creamy and tangy slaw. The buns appeared to be fresh baked. The beef burak was amazing. The layers of pastry crumbled individually in my mouth as I bit into them and the toasted pine nuts and subtle spices made it reminiscent of an upscale kibbie. Of all the dishes, my only criticism, and it is a mild one, is that the salad dressing on the Ole salad was a little too lemon forward for my liking. It needed just a little something to cut the acidity. But this is easily overlooked. Our waitress, Alex, made sure to check in on us periodically. When we had finished the meal, my wife inquired about desserts, and we were given a list of several excellent choices. We ordered a piece of pistachio cheesecake to go and the Clafoutis to eat in. We were told by Alex that the Clafoutis is flown in from New York. It wasn't a traditional flat, dense, Clafoutis, but rather tall, layered, and fluffy. The cherries were just tart enough to balance with the layers of custard between the layers of cake. I felt like I had eaten too much, but I couldn't help it and had to have the last bite. Did I mention we also got a complementary dessert? One of the other desserts that Alex mentioned was the chocolate pot au crème, one of my wife's favorites. When the dessert came out, she put one on the table along with the Clafoutis and said it was complementary. Such a wonderful surprise. We were truly impressed with our experience at Ole from start to finish. I'm sure it won't be long before we're back.

Honestly, there wasn't a single thing we ordered that we didn't love. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, but what really stood out was the service. Everyone we interacted with was so friendly and welcoming. We also have to give a special shoutout to Maurice, the manager. We watched him supporting his staff all night -- checking on tables, literally moving tables, jumping in wherever he was needed, and genuinely never stopping moving. To me, that is always the sign of a great manager and a well-run restaurant. Such a wonderful birthday dinner, and we already can't wait to go back.
