Awesome little place with such good food! Service is really good too with the banter between the bar tender and regulars like watching a sitcom, everyone seems very relaxed and happy, bringing just a fun vibe to everything. I got some high recommendations of this spot. I really like the feel of it. It's small, it's got a fun design and there are craft cocktails. One of my favorite things to explore - a craft cocktail menu. Unfortunately, we didn't have a great experience. And the bartender is solely to blame for that. I was with a small group of family (my partner, two cousins and one of the best friends anyone can hope for). My partner and I are from Miami, cousins from Tulsa and the friend is local. We paid $5 to get in since there was a band. We had one round because the bartender seemed to think a lot about himself and his drink making ability. Tall skinny guy with a lot of 'tude. Someone said he's a local DJ, too. Well that air of superiority can be sexy behind the turntables but doesn't work behind a bar. On the turntables you are the boss but when you step behind the bar WE (you know, the people) are in charge. My cousin and I ordered a bourbon drink with grapefruit and mint. The drink just wasn't good. We both tried...we gave it a couple attempts to grow on our pallet. It just wasn't working. So my cousin got the bartenders attention and let him know. INSTANT ATTITUDE. Whoa, don't take it personal. He did. When asking her what else she wanted she was feeling adventurous and asked for his opinion on other cocktails. He straight up told her she wasn't going to like any of them and should get something else. He said that they use fresh juices and he thought we'd at least like that in a drink. He then tells her to just get a bourbon and something. In shock she just says coke. You could have offered an old fashioned, a whiskey ginger, a bufala negra something - anything. Nope. So he makes her drink and slams it down on the bar. My other cousin hadn't even been served at this point and had been there the entire time - he gets a beer - slammed on the bar. I order a Bulleit Manhattan Up and he makes that and slams it on the bar. Anyone with a little bit of smarts knows the difference between a drink being set on a bar and one slamming. We get it, guy. You're upset that someone didn't like one of your drinks. Next time try actually muddling the mint so that the flavor releases and blends with the grapefruit. You MAY have to put a little raw sugar in there to break up the leaf - just sayin' punk. So we left. read more

Love this place! Unique, original decor (like their other restaurants) and friendly, quick service. Love the small plates because I like to be able to try a lot at a new restaurant. Also like that they change their menu fairly often. Their drinks are tasty, though not strong at all, but since they're a bit different and use fresh fruit not syrupy liquor, I'm willing to forgive a bit. The beignets are amazing. It's small but they have a patio too. The photo booth is super fun! read more

Most definitely one of the dapper-est and niftiest bars I've ever been to. It's an intimate spot, but the dames and gents were so friendly that I didn't mind all the elbow rubbing and accidental hip bumping. It was a real meh. The drinks were okay and pretty strong but not really stand out. The food is super small servings, basically appetizer size for entree cost. I got the shrimp which was yummy but it was three shrimp and nothing else for $8 only bad was the patio has a real chigger problem and my feet looked like I had chicken pox for three weeks.... The service is kind of sketchy and it seemed between DKDC and The Beauty Shop next door some of the tables get left behind. read more

This is where I always take friends and family who are visiting Memphis. Food is always amazing- interesting flavors that you really can't find anywhere else. They have delicious signature cocktails and a great selection of local craft beers. The servers and bartenders are always cool and super friendly. They'll upsell you without you even knowing it because they're just that cool, but you won't mind because you'll be happy with your experience. I highly recommend this place to anyone. The decor aims to be hip and comfortable, and it wasn't overly crowded either time I've been there. I would probably embrace this bar as a neighborhood haunt if it weren't for a few irksome issues. The food was reasonable priced, but wasn't great. The drinks were expensive. On the second occasion, I ordered a higher tier bourbon neat, and they served it in what looked like a babyfood container. I understand that they're catering to the hipster crowd, but one thing I look for in a bar is not needing to bring my own glassware. read more

I've been here 3 times and am finally writing a review for this adorable little place! I love their cocktails and small plates. I try everything I possibly can - I'm never disappointed. They have such a fresh menu (I love that it's always changing), and they make the classics taste even better. I never have the same thing twice, which is atypical for me. The wait staff here has always kind and attentive. Had their pork sandwich the other night - spicy aioli was awesome. Got to try the nutella and chocolate ganache crepes and the red velvet cake - so happy!! read more

Bar DKDC is a nice addition to midtown. Although I miss Do's sushi, the owner is the same and has done a great job. I've been twice and the menu has changed which is part of what they are going for. Apparently, it should change every couple months or so. The Blackberry Julip may be my favorite mixed drink in the city. read more

Keep going back and I don't know why. I hate to give 2 stars because I want to love this place. However, every time I've been the food has been mediocre. I am also not crazy about their mixed drinks. EVERY drink is also in a mason jar. Cute, but sometimes I want wine in a wine glass. Service is great and helpful. Just needs something extra to make me really like it. Honestly, I've had both great and terrible experiences here. Once I walked in with very few people inside but I got no service. We finally left after the bartender ignored us for 20 minutes. Most of my other experiences were excellent, however. The last time, our server was fun and friendly and even joked with us. Had an excellent dinner on the patio on a Saturday night with a nice breeze. Split the olives, fried green tomatoes, crawfish empanadas, and the "French burger" with a friend. Every dish was delicious, with unusual and very well done flavors and spices. The service was friendly and prompt, and the Brooklyn Lager was great (hadn't had this label before). I am a food snob, and am infamous among my friends for sending bad food back to the kitchen and for being underwhelmed at most popular local eateries. No danger of either at DKDC. This is food as I would make it myself - if I had a prep line and a sous chef. And I like the Mason jars - keeps the entire atmosphere from being pretentious. Extremely impressed, and the prices are extremely reasonable. I will be back and will bring others. I look forward to exploring the (changing) menu. read more

Menu changes every 2-3 months with a focus on a different city or country. This stretch was Asian & not bad. Had fries, tofu w/cherry tomatoes to start. Tofu could use more flavoring. Fries were really good. Also had sashimi yellowtail with a warm brown butter & green tea salt & OMG it was good. Friend had chinese beef broccoli & he said it was really good. After going to a bar down the street that was highly recommended, where we did not have a good experience, my wife and I decided to continue to the next bar we could find. Luckily, we found this great spot. It was early in the evening on a Sunday, so it was not busy, but the drinks were great. However; not only the were the drinks great, but Brad ,our bartender, was very personable and a great conversationalist. My wife and I had a great time talking with Brad and other patrons of the bar. A bunch of friends and I came here for the first time the other night and we were not impressed. The place has a very interesting around-the-world theme going on. It's decorated with items representing several cultures, and the theme carries over to the menu which features dishes inspired by different cultures (country is specified for every dish). We liked the decor. They also have a cool drinks menu which was quite pricy. All their cocktails started at an 8$ minimum, and come in mason jars of various sizes. Be sure to ask the waiter what exactly the cocktail tastes like before ordering it. I ordered a Blackberry Julip hoping I would taste some blackberry in there, but instead got a mouthful of Jim Beam at every sip. Tried some of their other drinks which weren't too bad though. They also had beer available. Their food is incredibly expensive for the portion that you get. A friend ordered their Israel Burger which was for over 9$ and it came in a tiny plate with no sides. I ordered their handcut fries which were for 5$. They were pretty thick as expected, but not worth the 5$ in my opinion. They came with a dip in a very shallow small dish, and when I asked for ketchup, it was brought out in the same small shallow dish. A third friend ordered their vegetarian dish which tasted really good, but was over $9 and came in an incredibly tiny portion. The other thing that we found to be annoying was the wait-time for the food. Considering how tiny those portions were, you'd think they'd come out faster. After doing a little investigating, we realized that this bar shares its kitchen with the Beauty Shop restaurant next door (same owners I think), which is why the food took so long to come out. In the end, all 5 of us decided that we were not coming back here again. I should mention that the waiter that we had was very pleasant and tried his best to make up for the long wait-time for the food. read more

I have been a fan of anything Karen Blockman Carrier does. Automatic Slim's was for years our favorite "go to" place. (But even so, we always requested a table upstairs, because of the noise.) We loved the creative food, the decor, the vats of fruit-infused vodka. So naturally we investigated all Carrier's other restaurants, and especially enjoyed Do's creative twist on sushi. What we did not enjoy about Do, however, is a problem with DKDC: the noise. Although, as with all things Carrier, the decor and vibe are funky and eclectic, it is impossible to have a conversation below screaming unless you want to keep texting each other across even tiny tables. It's even hard to hear your seriously overworked server. But what about the food? The concept here is "street food," more like "street tapas" a global selection whose locale changes monthly. We hit Jamaica, and while it's a bit puzzling that a Caribbean island could offer no fish selections other than shrimp (sugar-cane skewers of spicy, delectable shrimp, however), the limited menu has a lot of interesting items. We recommend the callaloo dumplings and the corn fritters. If you're vegetarian, moreover, you'll be eating from the appetizer part of the menu, but that's what I usually do anyway. More variety, smaller bites. Do be aware that the portions, even of the entrees, are not large. As for the drinks -- Carrier's original concept was to focus on rum, and there is a selection of different kinds of rum and rum drinks. It would be nice if, along with the original concept, there could be "flights" of different kinds of rum. I love rum, but unfortunately, I had the worst daiquiri (okay, Cuban Rum Sour) ever: it was undrinkable. And pricey. Bottom line: if you're adventurous, go. The food rocks. If you're out for a romantic evening, forget it. And bring aspirin. read more

I frequent the Cooper Young area on a regular basis there are tons of great bars and restaurants, but my only venture here left a lot to be desired. The food was good but the drinks were nothing special and the service was abysmal. At one point my wife and I were told to move to another table (my wife was on crutches at the time which made this especially annoying) in order to make room for a band that never actually showed up while were there. I watched our server zip around the room and frequently check on other tables but become a black hole of energy the few times she checked on us. I did like how they didn't charge us for the second drink we ordered.....but that's mainly because we never actually got it. Like I said if you're in the Cooper Young area there as plenty of fantastic bars and restaurants; Hammer & Ale, Celtic Crossing, Tsnunami, and the like are all top notch....but this one doesn't measure up. read more

My love for Do (see review) is known so of course I as going to check out the new place. Same exact interior pretty much. Cozy (meaning small) so I would say make reservations if you have more than two in your party or it is a weekend. I've been twice in the past two months and the food was Jamaican inspired. First time I went for dinner & drinks and we all ordered several different things to share. Everything was delicious but nothing was really knock your socks off memorable - except the drinks! Love the drinks! (And they are served in a cute little mason jar.) Second time I went just for drinks - we ate dinner somewhere before - and sat at the bar. We sampled several different cocktails and I can tell you that all of them are delicious. And potent! I will be back for food and drinks again soon. read more
