Fast food BBQ? Came here on a Friday night a few weeks ago and there were about less than half of the tables occupied. Service was fast and friendly. We got the pulled pork sandwich on the fried cornbread with mac n'cheese and the pulled chicken combo with fried cornbread, a side of potato salad, and a side of cinnamon apples for a total of $27. The pulled pork could've been a little warmer, but the fried cornbread was a novelty and the mac n'cheese passed the test. Everything was decorated for Halloween, which made the place cute. We tried the banana pudding for dessert as we'd never had it before, and we're used to the same concoction made with lemon pudding. **Disclaimer - This review is purely on the food as I had it delivered to my hotel** Everyone says you have to try the BBQ in Tennessee, but after along day of flying, I chose takeout from Bar-B-Cutie. I was honestly impressed with the quality of the food despite it being delivery. I had try the 4 sample platter which includes pulled pork, pulled chicken, BBQ chicken and roasted turkey. How was it? Continue on to find out. The pulled pork was still moist and once I added some of the BBQ sauce to it, it disappeared quicker than it took me to open the box. You could taste the smoke and the BBQ sauce I could eat on a flip-flop (DDD reference haha). The pulled chicken was just as good. The turkey was flavorful, but would be better served on a sandwich with some stuffing and cranberry sauce. The BBQ chicken was very moist and the BBQ sauce on it had a slight char which only adds to the overall flavor. The baked beans was interesting because it had their signature BBQ sauce in it which added an additional flavor. Being from Maine and enjoying a nice backed bean dinner, I wasn't sure what to think about leaning away from the traditional style, but I did enjoy it. The potato salad was good and nothing unique about it. You will see a fried cornbread pancake in my pictures and I can't say I didn't love it or like it. Those cakes have to be eaten fresh and not after sitting in a box collecting all the steam from the food. So I won't comment on it and just say you need to try it fresh if you want the true experience. Overall, I was impressed and didn't leave a single piece of food left on the plate by the end. It's certainly filling so if you are not hungry, try the 2 or 3 meat sampler. You will not be disappointed. I love BBQ turkey very much and I needed to eat lunch, so I was happy to see Bar-B-Cutie close to my hotel. It's a casual place with lots of regulars. You order at the register, grab your drink and they bring your food out quickly. I had my beloved turkey which was excellent - clearly from an actual bird and not the microwaved loaf horrorshow I was served at Smokey Bones. This was fresh, juicy and lightly smoked. It didn't need sauce all but I did enjoy their hot sauce which is vinegar-y rather than sweet (my preference). As sides, I had white beans which were solid and cooked with pork belly, and creamed corn which was excellent. Plates come with bread - I chose cornbread which is served like pancakes here. Okay? All these years later and I'm still coming back here. Since moving to the neighborhood I come here often. Love that they play tasteful country music. Love that they have a drive through. The food, on the other hand , is pretty mediocre it's not terrible, but it's not something I would drive to eat again. I got the potato salad, and for me, it was a little salty and just wasn't how I expected it to taste. They do have good mac and cheese, and the big beans are good. I had the country fried steak, which was pretty decent but nothing out of the ordinary. So here comes the worst part, after I placed my order, I started feeling really dizzy. I'm assuming from heat exhaustion or something of that sort. First, I went to go sit down, and then I lay on this bench in front of their door. I was clearly in distress. I was flying out of Nashville Airport and was looking for a good place to eat dinner. I came across Bar-B-Cutie on a Google search of restaurants near BNA. The reviews looked good and the photos too, so off I went. Bar-B-Cuties has been around since the 1950s and has multiple locations in Tennessee, Georgia and Texas. They specialize in Pit-Style barbecue. The restaurants are decorated with a country vibe with license plates on the walls and photos of days past. They serve up many many favourites like Smoked Chicken, Pulled Pork, Brisket, Ribs, Links etc. On this visit, I tried a two-Meat Plate with Smoked Turkey and Brisket, served with Baked beans, Mashed Potatoes and a side of gravy. The food was delicious and well prepared. My Turkey was lean and moist, and the brisket was fall-off-the-bone tender as well. The service was really great as I was served by a long-time employee, who had a great sense of humour and was very attentive. I've had a lot of barbecues over the years some memorable and some I would not return to. Bar-B-Cuties has been around for a long time, and their quality, consistency and reasonable pricing keep people coming. There was a long lineup for take-out, and almost all the seats were full, so you know it's a popular spot for Barbecue in the area. Really bad!!!! At 6 PM on a Friday night I would expect anyone who served a good meal would have the most fresh, well prepared, moist, tender meat they have all day. I ordered a 3 meat combo with collards and Brunswick stew. Since I live 30 minutes from Brunswick Ga let me start with the stew, you can call it anything you want but if it does not have lima beans, it is not Brunswick stew. This was peas, corn, potatoes and tomatoes. I do not think it had any meat at all. The collard greens had the right texture but were not seasoned and vinegar was not available. So on to the meat. I chose turkey, brisket and ribs. The turkey did not taste smokey, did not have a smoke ring and I would bet not prepared in house. It was the best of the 3 but not that good. The brisket was very dry and tough. Properly cooked brisket is firm enough to hold its own weight but releases when tugged gently. A knife was required for this brisket, they give you a plastic knife and I thought i was going to break it. The flavor was fine but the finished product was disappointing. I am a rib guy, Competition ribs require you to gently tug to pull the meat from the bone and teeth marks should be visible. This was definitely not that. Not everyone wants that type of rib, but the meat should be firm at a minimum. It literally pulled of the bone like pulled pork. It was ordered wet but no sauce was on the ribs when I got it so I do not know what they meant by wet, Thankfully there was sauce on the table. The tea was good, that is a solid statement in the south. They claim to have been around for 70 years. No one makes it that long without building a reputation but it has clearly deteriorated over time. You can see that the owner Ronnie does address most negative reviews but there are a lot. They all seem to have the same general post, 7 decades, quality meats, perfectly cooked. I did not find another BBQ place really close to the airport so next time I will travel. I have to start out by shutting down the old reviews saying the brisket is dry because once I told the staff of those bad reviews they explained you can order a lean- or juicy-cut of brisket. Family friendly and no alcohol. As I said, Pork barbecue was good as were the sauces on the table. Fried pickles were not house made and didn't taste like pickles.
