There were 3 vegetarians in our party who all had a choice of dishes which doesn't always happen! The rest of us enjoyed a varied and very fresh menu. Of particular mention was the onglet steak and the halibut. Overall an amazing night and a big thank you to Kelly for making it so very special, for all her hard work and kindness, for bringing out a birthday cake and for not minding that we stayed so late!

The Tad Ocakbasi Meze bar is one of the classier Turkish restaurants on Mare St. in Hackney. For me…read moreit is much more inviting than your avearge Turkish restaurant. First of all, the outside seating is a feature not possessed by many other Turkish restaurants in the area. The orning provides shelter from the often drizzly weather, and the wooden seats are a classy touch and a nice change from the usual tacky plastic outside furniture on Mare street. Expect to receive more food than you think you will get. I ordered the Lamb shish which was beautifully tender. My friend had the mixed grill, which to finish eating is no small feat, he managed to make his way through the abundance of different meats. The shish was around 8 pounds, and the mixed grill around 13 pounds. I guess it depends on how much you can afford, and how much meat you can stomach. The staff really care about your experience, and take the time to have a chat with you. Their interest is genuine, and I did not find the their very personal style of service at all meddling. The Tad is open 7 days a week and is fully licenced.

Tad! It's not a…read morepreppy dude with floppy blond hair, Nantucket reds, and boat shoes. It's a yummy Turkish restaurant with an odd name that sounds like it should be sailing off the coast of the Vineyard. Or maybe Tad means something like food in Turkish. In which case I am dumb (sorry for all the East Coast references, Londoners). Tad stands out for me from all the other Turkish restaurants in the Hackney area thanks to the unusual dishes and the ginormous proportions. We had something called the Yogurtlu Adana, which was a kebab over flatbread, drenched with a tasty tomato-ey stew and drizzled with yogurt sauce. The bread soaked up all the savory flavor and became these delicious little gloopy blobs of yumminess. This dish also came with rice, salad, and a tasty grilled onion. We also had a really good kisir (cracked wheat salad) full of fresh parsley zest and a good-but-not-special-in-any-way hummous. The meze starters came with a basket of grilled bread, resulting in an IMMENSE amount of food. I ate so much I was in a serious food coma afterwards. Seriously, I fell asleep in the middle of work. I guess that's what I get for doing work in bed after an intense Tad experience. No, not that kind of Tad, that sounds dirty...

A culinary experience of the Barbary Coast in London's Seven Dials…read more We loved this place so much that when we visited London twice in one year, we just had to come back for round two. This is a small, yet bustling restaurant. A U-shaped bar wraps around a fully visible kitchen. Service and experience are quite incredible. The menu is mostly small plates, intended to be shared and may come out as they're ready. We were just the two of us and here's what we ordered: We started it all off with Naan e Barbari and chose Zhoug and Za'aluk sauces to go with that. Then we moved onto Crispy Violet Artichokes, the Labneh, Hatzil, Parsley, the Fattoush salad and the Chilli Cauliflower. Along with these came the Coffee Rub Chicken, and the Pata Negra Pluma as our main proteins. Every bit of this experience and every plate is exquisite. I couldn't recommend The Barbary enough. Get yourself a reservation and try it for yourself.

It was blinking chilly in there, they had plugged in heaters, and did turn the little white hot air heater towards me, so I did warm up, but I kept my coat on, and you could see others were cold too. Food: so, starters had a really decent size of buffalo wings that were cooked well, hubby said they "loved them, they were banging". I had crispy chicken which was hot and fresh with a nice flavoured honey mustard dip with it. Mains: shame. I had the veggie burger and it was cold, like fridge cold. It was missing the tomato salsa and onion ring it normally comes with, and was a cold stodge in a bun. So I ended up just eating my chips which were lovely to be fair. The hubster has the ribs and were nice enough. Mac and cheese was average. They did take the burger off of the bill and apologised re the burger. But it's a shame as it ruined the meal really. As I said, staff are lovely and I am a fan of this place, but tonight it really wasn't up to par. I'll of course go back, but if it is cold again I'm Walking out. I'm sure the food will be fine!!
