Started bad and only got worse. 3 employees at entrance, asked how many we needed seating for and all went to go clear a table.. .in the meantime a guy walked 8n off the street behind us, went up to the bar and asked what shoe store could he buy cleats for his son. That conversation lasted for 4 minutes and had 4 of the waitstaff trying to help him, as we stood with now 7 other people behind us waiting for a table. That was at 1:50pm. Took our drink order brought our drinks and then we sat for 8 minutes waiting for someone to take our order...when we saw the bar maid walk by, we asked if we could put our Order in and we have been waiting as people that were sat after us, had already put in there order. She got VERY snippy and defensive and at that point we should have left but the place was highly recommended. When the manager came over to take our Order, she didn't write anything down and asked for specific items not to be on one of the sandwiches as there was mayo issue that would cause a violent effect. Food came out, and you guessed it, sandwich had mayo! They did comp the sandwich and they said it was the kitchens fault. In the meantime, there were an excessive amount of flies around, and several people could be seen swatting away flies off there food. Also noticed that 1 of the 2 cooks who had long hair, had no hair net on and the restrooms were in bad Shao and looked liked they hadn't been attended too in a few hours with paper on the floor, 1 toilet clogged, etc... This place is great. Easy to find and the street parking was plentiful. The place was packed for a Tuesday evening. The bison head over the bar was interesting! I was flying sole so I thought I would sit at the bar. Service was excellent. Greeted and order taken within minutes. I ordered the juicy Lucy with a choice between just hamburger or hamburger and sausage. The hamburger and sausage had an outstanding taste but the cheese inside...was not there!! But not to worry it had plenty of cheese. The menu was served vert prompted considering how busy it was. I chose the cheese curds as my side because they were raved as the best people have ever ate. The batter fried curds were very good and certainly would be in my top ten. This place is a must stop as the menu was full of other specialty hamburgers. read more

Update: Our first time back in a while. Lots of outside seating due to pandemic. Thanks to the city for extending seating into the street. Food was outstanding, great friendly staff, loved having the walleye tacos again. 209 we are glad you are back. We will be making the 60 mile drive from home frequently. First time at new location. I will never go there again! And you shouldn't either, if you value your time, dignity, money, and tastebuds. 1) Time: The front-counter sign insists that customers wait to get seated. While there were more waitstaff than customers at the time I arrived, I stood and stood, waiting to be seated. The waitstaff pointedly ignored me. I say "pointedly" because I saw two different individuals make eye contact with me more than once (per individual) then quickly look away, pretending they didn't see me. Apparently, they had their own party going on. I noticed a bartender pouring a whole bunch of shots of clear booze (tequila? vodka? whatever, doesn't matter). This round of shots, apparently ordered by a patron sitting at the bar, was apparently meant for him, his companion, and the wait staff. The person who poured the shots called other staff to the bar and indicated they were all to take a shot. I overheard one server say she felt uncomfortable with this and felt "very strongly" that she shouldn't partake. I walked up to the bar, smiled and waved at this particular server, and asked for a seat. She was friendly, sat me right away. As I waited (and waited and waited and waited!) for someone to take my order (waitstaff were all standing around gossiping behind the bar), the one who felt uncomfortable and who gave me a seat said something I couldn't hear to the other staff. Next I knew she was wearing a jacket, holding a purse, then she walked out the door. The service got worse from there, but I don't have all day (especially considering I spent far more time for that meal than was expected or decent). 2) Dignity: I'm just amplifying Point 1, as yes, it was undignified all around, 3) Money: Sundays are supposed to be all-day 2-for-1 well and rail drinks. I ordered 2 house wines, which should have cost less than $10 for both, but I was charged $10 each for 2 glasses, for 2 "glasses" of wine. I write "glasses" in quote because they were half pours at best. So, basically, I got 2 half-glasses (total of 1 glass) of wine for the price of 4 glasses. 4) Tastebuds: They forgot to season the appetizer I ordered. I mean, it was completely devoid of taste. There are no condiments on the tables. I would have asked for salt and pepper as to do the best I could at least. But see 1) Time. read more

Service is quick and friendly. Entire place is clean, tables bused almost instantly when people are done. Prices are a touch on the high side, but not outlandish. Another happy hour that was great, now gone bad. The food tasted good and the 2-for-1 drink specials were unbeatable. Somehow management got the crazy idea in their heads that it should be changed - bad idea. The new food choices are terrible and the drinks are not a bargain at all anymore. Know the audience and cater to them, don't give us half-measures and pretend the customers are getting a deal. We used to consider 209 a treat, now it's just old news. Such a great find! The food is fantastic- try the cheese curds paired with warm marinara. We tried the the walleye tacos, guineas onion rings, daisy bird and strawberry salad. Everything was super fresh and delicious. The prices are very reasonable about $11-12 for a burger and fries. The burgers offer options for 100% all beef or a mix of beef and fennel. We had a few cocktails as well, I thought they were really good and reasonably priced (especially if you're used to paying big-city prices). My boyfriend and I went to this cozy little bar. It was a great atmosphere with sports TVs and an open kitchen to watch the chefs. There was pull tabs and the bathrooms were pretty cool. I had the curd burger and he had the quesadilla and coincidentally we were there during happy hour... which issssss "$2.09 OFF EVERYTHING!" Including alcohol (4-6pm) it was also at another time but I don't recall. My burger was good but it was a bit salty from the curds, but I asked for a side of BBQ to put on it and that sufficed. but a leaf of lettuce would have been good too. Bar 209 is a pretty neat place to grab a bite to eat. I was staying in Bemidji for work, and a cool evening out made me want some comfort food - unique burgers, beer, and Monday night football? I couldn't resist. Parking is a breeze, and the restaurant is actually larger than you'd think from the outside. I grabbed a spot at the bar, ordered my food and drink, and began chowing down on a PBJ burger with fried cheese curds as the side. PBJ isn't just peanut butter and jelly; Bar 209 uses chipotle raspberry jelly with bacon. The burgers are 80-20 beef-pork, which makes the patty incredibly tender and juicy; combined with the toppings, it was an incredibly satisfying burger to savor. And the fried cheese curds...yup, just do yourself a favor and order these. They're crunchy on the outside, squeaky on the inside - really irresistible. Service is friendly, and the atmosphere is perfect to come here with friends to grab a bite to eat and watch a game (or, if you're here alone like myself because the food is worth it!). The happy hour looks killer, too! The menu was what I expected, huge servings, too many fries, etc. I opted for the lettuce wraps, thinking a bar might not do a great job on these but at least they are lighter. I was wrong. Really tasty and fresh. Far better than chain Yardhouse serves. The setting is fun, large bar, great music, fun friendly staff. Only rated a 4 as I didn't fully experience the menu. Not impressed. The staff was busting their butts and the service was good for having outdoor seating. Nick got the buffalo chicken wrap and a Caesar salad. The salad was spring mix, not romaine and it was warm. There was no blue cheese to be found in the wrap which is one of the main reasons he got it. I got the steak avo wrap and a side of Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was cold, not even room temperature, cold. The wrap was not wrapped well, you couldn't take a bite with every ingredient unless you actually unwrapped it and did some rearranging. If we are in the area again we will not be returning. read more
