Later, I noticed some white customers sitting in the same area, so I asked if they were told about the minimum. They all said no. When I asked the server why only my family was told, he looked nervous and said he needed to check with the manager. That didn't make sense--if it's a policy, why check? When he came back, he then told the other (white) customers about the $40 minimum, and several of them left right away. It felt like the manager realized they had no choice but to enforce the rule after I questioned it. The whole experience felt very unfair and uncomfortable.
