Spring rolls

Looking for authentic Vietnamese cuisine and this really hit the spot ! Parking a little hard to find in this Richmond strip mall plaza be prepared to circle a bit. Restaurant interior is spacious and comfy. We tried all the favorites, banh cuon, beef tomato noodle soup, pho dac biet, chicken bun vermicelli, spring rolls, chicken salad roll. Spring rolls all meat no filler. Chicken salad roll expertly done. Everything was fresh steaming hot and delicious. Service was fast and attentive. Really enjoyed lunch here. On Monday and Tuesday they have 10% off. It's cash or debit only. Overall authentic Vietnamese restaurant in the area.

Great food, soups are awesome, and lemongrass chicken is delicious! We didn't have the banh mi, but we will be back to try them for sure. The chicken wings weren't marinated, but still had a good crunch. Avocado smoothie was excellent. They only take cash and debit card.

This is an excellent family oriented restaurant. Staff have been excellent every time we have been here and the food has not disappointed us with great flavor and reasonable pricing.

Ly W.

Generous portion and the flavour was spot on. The noodles in the pho was a bit soft and soggy, but the chicken was juicy and flavourful. Service is decent but could be more attentive as we needed to flag them down several times for water refill. I love that they have an outdoor space where diners can bring their dogs. Not the best pho place in town but quite pleasant. I'd be open to coming back to try their other dishes!

Pork & Crab special

Stopped here for a quick lunch after shopping . The food was really good - we ordered a lemon grass pork bahn mi, fresh rolls with mince pork patties, chicken pho and the special of the day - pork and crab udon soup with quail eggs. Overall the food was good but for the Bahn Mi not a true French baguette and found a bone in the meat and for the special it seemed to have more shrimp than crab. The staff were very nice and the facility clean all round so would come back but probably go elsewhere to find a better Bahn Mi with French bread.

I love this little eatery , they have delicious banh mi , pho and rice dishes . Kind service and prompt . Warm atmosphere and usually easy to get a table as it's a hidden gem still

Baoguette Vietnamese Bistro Location: 4800 No. 3 Road #105, Richmond, BC V6X 3A6 Baoguette Vietnamese Bistro offers a modest but inviting atmosphere for those seeking traditional Vietnamese fare in the heart of Richmond. While my visit provided a mix of both hits and misses, a few standout items made it a place worth revisiting. Food Shrimp Salad Rolls While the size was satisfactory, the texture didn't quite hit the mark, and the accompanying dipping sauce lacked the depth of flavor typically associated with this dish. I've had better elsewhere, where the rolls delivered a more vibrant combination of textures and flavors. Rating: 6 out of 10 Deep-Fried Fish Cake The Deep-Fried Fish Cake was well-seasoned and crispy, with a pleasant bite. It had all the right elements but didn't manage to elevate beyond average. Other versions of this dish I've tried have had a more pronounced flavor profile and better texture. Nonetheless, it was a solid option for a quick bite. Rating: 7 out of 10 Pork Skewers Three well-sized pork skewers arrived, the skewers were tender and flavourful. While they didn't break new ground, the execution was solid, making this a reliable choice on the menu. Rating: 7 out of 10 Nam Vang Noodles The Nam Vang Noodles were a true highlight of the meal and one of the dishes I would wholeheartedly recommend. This noodle soup offered a rich, aromatic broth combined with tender noodles, shrimp, meat, and quail eggs. The ingredients were well-balanced, and each element added layers of flavor and texture to the dish. It's the kind of comforting bowl you could return to time and again, and a standout on their menu. Rating: 9 out of 10 Drinks Avocado Smoothie and Mango Slush While both the Avocado Smoothie and Mango Slush delivered on flavor, the texture was slightly disappointing. The ice wasn't crushed finely enough, resulting in a less smooth consistency than I would have liked. That said, the flavors were pleasant, with just the right amount of sweetness to complement the meal. Rating: 7 out of 10 Ambiance The ambiance at Baoguette is unassuming and casual. It's the kind of place where you can walk in, find a seat, and settle in for a quick, no-frills meal. The decor is simple and functional, with no standout elements to speak of. It's an adequate setting for a casual lunch or dinner, but nothing more. Rating: 6 out of 10 Service Service was friendly, but there is room for improvement. While the staff was pleasant and offered helpful suggestions, there were moments when attention to detail was lacking, such as missed water refills. The experience was positive overall, but the service didn't quite match the level of the food. Rating: 7 out of 10 Price For the quality of food served, the prices were reasonable and aligned with what one might expect for this type of cuisine. Baoguette offers good value, especially given the freshness of the ingredients and the portion sizes. Verdict Despite some inconsistencies, I would return to Baoguette Vietnamese Bistro, especially for the Nam Vang Noodles, which stood out as a must-try dish. While a few items didn't quite live up to expectations, the restaurant provides solid Vietnamese staples at reasonable prices, making it worth exploring further. Note: The restaurant only accepts cash and debit, so be sure to come prepared. Additionally, they offer a 10% discount on Tuesdays, which is a nice incentive for a return visit.

We've been meaning to try more Vietnamese spots in Richmond. Up next was Baoguette Vietnamese Bistro. Their original location is out in Kerrisdale but this one is located in a plaza that houses a few random stores and BBT spots. We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon (around 2:00pm) and most of the tables were occupied. The outside patio looks spacious and perfect for the summertime. Service is quick and efficient although we had to ask to get some tea. At least they came by a few times to see if we wanted refills. The menu is two pages; banh mi, appetizers, pho, specialty noodle soups, rice, vermicelli, desserts and drinks. - Herbs - basil, lettuce, cooked bean sprouts and lime wedges. - Bun bo hue (#29) ($12.95) - their BBH came with beef slices, pork hock, chicken balls, onion and red cabbage. No pork blood though. Broth was interesting; clean tasting but flavours are very subtle. Didn't get much lemongrass notes. Good amount of meat. Always appreciate when things are homemade (chicken balls) and the in-bone pork hock was great. - Bun rieu (#31) ($13.50) - came with crab meat, fish cakes, tofu puffs, tomato and onion. Initial smell of the broth was very tomatoey but taste wise, again, very clean. More noodles in this bowl than the BBH. The best thing was the crab meat; two solid chunks of tasty crab goodness. Not many solid Vietnamese places in Richmond but Baoguette was better than average. 3.5 stars.

Andrew W.

Great addition to the Pho scene in Rmd, both the beef broth & the pho consistency was outstanding! BBH was very fulfilling and also the broth was amazing! I can feel the care the Chef puts into all the creation here! We can't resist and shared a Banh Mi with ham, pate another hit! Sure to be back to try out other items! Oh and the service was friendly and efficient! Plenty of free parking at the mall.

This is our 2nd time here at Baoguette Vietnamese Bistro in Richmond. The tables are quite distanced and the restaurant feels clean and bright. They still provide a menu so we sanitized our hands after we ordered and returned the menu. My hubby loves the beef stew. The first time he had it he couldn't stop raving about the flavourful soup and super tender beef. He ordered it again and he said it's still even better. I had pho with rare beef and brisket. The soup is very good and rich. I order size small and it's perfect size for me. The salad roll was really good. I like the crunch of the vegetables and the softness of vermicelli and shrimp. The peanut sauce paired nicely. This is going to be our go to Vietnamese restaurant when we are in Richmond.

This place just opened at the beginning of the month. Thanks to gf's recommendation and we came dinner after work... Like it totally! It is spacious, well lit, clean, friendly servIce and the food is yummy... I dare say its a hidden gem in the heart of downtown Richmond. ps, I always endorsed the idea of separate M & F restrooms. And Baoguette got this!

Andy L.

I came here for dinner recently. The restaurant was quite organized and service was decent. In terms of food, I tried their large # 17 Pho Dac Biet (Special Beef Noodle Soup with Rare Beef, Brisket, Beef Balls, & Tripe). The broth was good, there was a good amount of meat, and the pho was good. Overall, it was a nice meal.

Grilled pork & spring roll vermicelli bowl, viet sub & an extra side of grilled lemongrass chicken
Ro W.

One of my favourite Vietnamese places in the city! The owner Jack & his staff are always friendly, and their sandwiches are some of the best I've ever had. The spicy beef & the grilled chicken or pork sandwiches are fantastic. I also recommended the salad rolls here, unlike most places they are filled with mostly veggies & meat, and not filler noodles. The peanut dipping sauce with them is absolutely mouthwatering. Lastly, make sure to try anything with their lemongrass chicken, best portions in town, grilled to perfection and the perfect balance of sweet, salty & that smokey grill taste. I literally ate here everyday for a few months straight once. Lol.

(Kari's Rating 9.5/10)…read more Came with a group of 8 at 8:45pm and were seated immediately. The food came out lightning fast, everything is superb! I know she was doubting the authenticity at this place, but it absolutely blew me away-and I'm Asian. I ordered a bit off menu with the beef pho with a lemongrass broth and thicker noodles. We ordered three plates of the spring rolls and they were some of the best springs I've ever had in my entire life. They're crispy and not mushy inside, paired with the hoisin sauce absolutely delicious!! The persons are absolutely massive, so you're probably gonna end up taking something home, in which they will charge $.50 for a takeout container, but it is definitely worth it. I would genuinely come back if I can and I'll be forever thinking about this place. The Trung special soup was one of their specials, and it has a uniquely smoky flavor, which gave a lot of depth to the broth. The lemongrass chicken vermicelli plate was also delicious, it did need a little bit of hoisin and spice seasoning to lighten it up, but a very delicious meal with the pickled vegetables.

We got the chao tom (shrimp paste on sugarcane skewers) and the bun cha ca (fish cake noodle soup). Service was quite fast and we got our food shortly after ordering. The chao tom was served over a bed of vermicelli salad which was really nice as we were expecting just the skewers. When you bite into the skewer, it release a bit of sweet acidic flavour as it's made from sugar cane. I am so glad I tried this and will definitely be ordering it again in the future! The bun cha ca had an interesting taste and while I wasn't a big fan of it (there was a very strong dill taste), the portion was really big and I was happy with the experience of trying it. Overall, Pho 37 consistently impresses me with their food and I understand why they're always busy with customers!

As usual, I'm late to the party. I've heard about Phnom Penh…read moreand its famous chicken wings ever since I moved to Vancouver, nine-ish years ago. My fellow Yelpers raved about this place when I first moved here, and my kid came here with her school pals 5-6 years ago and also raved about the wings. It's been on my list to come here forever - and last night, finally, I did. It did not disappoint. My kid warned me, there'll probably be a line up waiting to get in (they don't take reservations here. I checked), so we decided to go at an off-time and get an early dinner, around 5pm on Friday. We walked there and, miracle of miracle, there was no line and we got seated right away. (Granted, we got the last vacant table in the place, and when we left after our meal, there already was a line of people waiting to get in). Food-wise...wow. I am NOT one for adventurous eating, so there were dishes on the menu I couldn't comfortably order (I wish I could, but hey, I'm better now than I used to be!). Still, there was lots for me to choose from. And first and foremost, I HAD to try the famous chicken wings. And I can honestly say, they were the best I've ever had: SO SO crunchy and crispy on the outside, and hot and moist on the inside. OMG so so so good. I can't speak highly enough of these! My kid ordered the butter beef. It was tasty and soft ("like butta!"), and the marinade was lovely, but personally, I couldn't get over the...rawness and redness of the meat and juice (which looked like blood to me). For fellow non-adventurous eaters out there, this might not be for you, despite how flavorful it tasted. It was just hard for me to get over how it looked. (I know I'm in a minority here. This dish is one of their most popular and asked-for dishes). We had the garlic dry spare ribs. I love spareribs. These were delicious but a tad too salty and greasy. I brought most of them home and had them today for lunch. I gotta say, they were so much better for me today: less salty, and I blotted off the excess grease. Delicious! My kid ordered a "small" sweet and sour soup with prawns, and wow, it came in a huge black cauldren. I can't imagine ordering a large size. Anyhow, this soup was a stand-out soup - especially for my kid who said she had dreams about it all night (lol)! So complex in flavors - spicy, sweet, savory, chock full of prawns and sprouts and lotus shoots and pineapple chunks and and other delicious stuff.... For me, it was a wee tad too spicy, but wow, even I thought, this is a special soup. So delicious and warming. 10/10. Our servers were prompt and impressively able to efficiently tend to a full house of diners. They got it all down to a science here. One issue of note: my kid had to use the washroom at one point and she left for a very extended period of time. I actually thought at one point that something had happened to her or she was ill, she was gone so long (VERY unlike her). When she returned, she told me it was "quite a hike", around the back of the restaurant and up a flight of stairs, too. I only make note of this in case anyone has mobility issues, know that the bathroom will be difficult (or impossible) for you to access.
