The current owner Ariel took over the restaurant from his uncle just before the pandemic. It's already a good sign to know a restaurant survived that -- it must have its unique advantages. My first impression of this restaurant was that it made me feel very relaxed, as if I was truly in the Philippines, or on a tropical small island. Its decoration and the way it displays the food are casual and even a bit shabby, but still make me feel very comfortable, just like being at home. The restaurant plays 80's, 90's music. I heard it has karaoke from time to time, I do want to participate in that ! It has all kinds of authentic Filipino food, but our goal is only the Kamayan - Boodle Fight. I looked it up with AI, Kamayan means "use hands to eat", Boodle is just a lot of food, Fight is because you need to fight for your food. This feast is very appealing. All the ingredients will be spread on the table which is covered by banana leaves. The ingredients are colorful, the main proteins are seafood, like squids and fish . With a lot of boiled vegetables on the side. The rice is garlic rice and full of flavor. The restaurant will provide you with gloves to let you eat them with your hands. You can eat them directly or with their special sauce. The food is delicious, but what really stands out is the memorable combination of visuals and flavors. If you've never tried a boodle fight before, I highly recommend giving it a try .

The menu is simple but offers enough variety that you'll definitely want to come back and try more. The service was excellent as well--staff were friendly, welcoming, and made the whole experience even better. I tried the Ilocos Empanada and was pleasantly surprised--it was made fresh to order and packed with flavor. While waiting, you can enjoy a comforting cup of Beef Nilaga soup and sip on refreshing calamansi juice, which is such a nice touch. Overall, a really positive experience. I'd definitely come back, especially to try the Boodle Fight!

I've had bulakenyos before I even knew who they were at least 10 times and let me tell you, their lumpia is probably the best I've EVER HAD (2nd to my dad's cooking of course). The meat filling they use is highly addictive, it has the perfect crunch, and it comes in the perfect size. I always end up eating a good 15-20 pcs per round but even then I keep coming back with future meals. My friends even buy in large portions and freeze to make sure they've got steady stock on hand. Something to know about this place is that they mostly do party trays. They do have a small counter selection of takeout food, but their main focus and menu is the trays. I also had a chance to try their sago't gulaman which is a traditional Filipino drink perfect for hot summery days made with brown sugar, vanilla extract, water, tapioca and gelatin (I always assume it's grass jelly). I thought it was a bit too sweet but the portion was great, so I can't complain much. During my first visit to their shop, we ordered ~5 different medium party trays to be ready for the next early afternoon. The portion they served us was huge and we ended up with a lot of leftovers (which means more for me!). Highly recommend others check this place out! I would say it's a sort of hidden gem.

Everyone always enjoy the food. And this place is busy! we ordered lomi, krispy pata, and garlic fried rice. Krispy pata could be crunchier and juicier. Lomi is too runny (my filipino eating buddy dont quite like it). Garlic fried rice is simply a safe dish (nth can go wrong with it). Overall isnt as good as how we remember and not a quite satisfying experience (i.e. flavor-wise didnt 'hit the spot').

It's funny that I first visited the store on Morningside a few months ago and never got any. Same with my most recent visit to this store. I found a Too Good to Go mystery package from this store and got one. It's truly a mystery to me, as Filipino food is still a journey that I've been enjoying. I went to pick up my food after shopping at Giant Tiger across the street on a Wednesday night. I had no problem finding a spot in this small plaza and backed into it. I then walked inside. There was an older couple who kept on wandering around the place. I wasn't sure what was going on. It was dizzying looking at them. I eventually gave up being polite waiting for them and approached the counter. I got a nice woman who helped me. She looked at my order and went ahead to put it together. She packaged everything extremely well. Every container of food had plastic wrap on it. I was impressed. I saw chicharron on the counter. It looked good. I'll need to come back to get more. I loved seeing everything in this store, from buns and sweets, to a shaved ice machine. She handed me my bag of goodies. I thanked her and carried them to my car. I then drove home. I got to unpack my goodies: - Smokey pork blood dish (diniguan) - Spicy pork with green beans - Steamed white rice Thanks to Arlene B. for letting me know what the first dish was called. It means a lot when folks help me. When I'm at an Asian supermarket, the sight of pork blood makes me cringe. I've had diniguan twice. The sauce is so flavourful and yummy that it doesn't gross me out. My first stint had pork and offal, with the latter not being my thing. This version was strictly pork. I loved it. It was delicious, especially with the rice. I also loved the spicy pork with green beans. I have a weakness for green beans, so anything paired with them is a hit. So good! I had a great experience here. I'll need to order more items off the menu. I'm hooked! (175)

Staff are always nice, but I would say that service is slow. It took a while to get the servers' attention because the 1-2 servers were running around from table to table. We love how crispy the pork is, and paired with the peanut sauce, it was really good. Lots of tables inside and very spacious. When I had the kamayan, they accommodated my party of 12 people. The prices are pretty decent. Food is good and tasty, but we do wish that the food was hotter. Overall, we love Casa Manila and the food is always good.
