My husband & I Stopped in here with our grands , daughter and son in law today Sunday 8/14 @ 10:50 am driving home from 4 days @ Jellystone Park in Golden Valley NC ! 8 of us order 2 orders biscuits/gravy, 2 fried chicken sandwiches w/ff , double cheese burger plenty , baked chicken w/ Mac cheese, mashed potatoes/gravy, fried okra, Belgium waffle w/ 2 scrambled eggs, grits 6 sprites, 1 1/2& 1/2 tea our bill was $79.00 ‍and we waited for the food to come out 1 by 1 and everything was ice cold the ff were dry & definitely been sitting under a heat lamp , mashed potatoes were cold all the way to the center, okra was beyond limp /soggy& cold the chicken in the sandwiches were hard and over cooked could not eat because you could bite a piece off .... first they shorted us the burger combo then all the other stuff was ice cold . While I was asking if we could get fresh food the lady was very rude and did give us some hot fries, a bowl of mp microwaved in front of me and didn't apologize for any of it all the while others were bringing their plates back with cold food , things left off and terrible. We had flights to catch @ Spartanburg/Greenville airport and left everything on the plates . We go out lots of places as a family with 4 adults / 4 kids and rarely do we have this type of experience. We googled restaurants near our location and The Bantam Chef came up and even though it had a 3.6 star review we took a chance and will know better next time . I forgot to mention the slaw-dogs...Yes, my CA-bred husband looks at me like I am an idiot when I say that I like slaw-dogs! (I guess it's a southern thing, especially since I haven't been able to find them west of the Mississippi.) Anyway, at Bantam Chef, their slaw dogs come with homemade chili (no beans), wiener, bun, onions, mustard, catsup all topped with slaw. I've been to Bantam Chef a few times. The first experience, when the restaurant wasn't at all busy, was quite positive. Great service and solid diner-type fast food, with a very, very pleasant waitstaff. The second time was on a Thursday at about 11:30am. There weren't many customers in the restaurant, but a large group entered just after me. I ordered my lunch to go and 25 minutes later after the table of five that came in after me had received their meals I finally received my lunch order. Perplexing, huh? What I determined was they get a lot of call-in orders prior to my order. So, even though they did not appear busy, they were hustling back in the kitchen. If you are in a rush, my recommendation (before you order) is to ask what is the status of the kitchen and how long you can expect to wait (although the nice server did tell me after ordering it would only be a few minutes). Was the food good? Absolutely. The 25 minute wait for my order? No way! Timing is everything. read more

The only thing fresh in this place was the order takers mouth. It was the first time I'd come into this place. Having just moved to the area, I was in hopes that I had found a nice homey place to call my local go-to. NOPE! Aside from being treated like an idiot because I didn't know that a "special" was a meat and three sides, I was sadly disappointed when I did get my order. The only thing edible was the mashed potatoes. The stewed beef and gravy came sans gravy, the green beans I ordered had magically become pinto beans, and the sliced tomatoes were slapped down on the plate under the meat, so that they were hot when I started to eat them. All in all, this is the closest thing to prison food as I ever hope to get. I will not be spending my money here again. read more

I have lived in Chesnee my whole life besides the time I was away in the service the food quality at the restaurants in Chesnee have went down hill in the last few years I at here for the last time last week when I got the hotdog a plenty plate and mold was on my buns on top very clear this could have been seen but the order was To go and didn't notice until I was home so wasn't worth taking back got breakfast a few days before it was cold and tasted like leftovers the tea was sour I wished the days would come back we're the restaurants in Chesnee took pride in the small community but not anymore it's like since turners went down hill and shut down the quality of the other restaurants have followed! read more

A great diner in the middle of nowhere. I can't suggest the country fried ham but everything else was great. Suggest a breakfast sandwich or some biscuits! I would not recommend this place. Everything seemed to be canned. From the gravy to the peaches in the cobbler and the meat was tough.

The Bantam is no gourmet restaurant BUT if you are looking for Good food, very reasonable prices every thing from meat and three to burgers. I'm a big fan of their fried flounder plate, none better. Wow- what a funky little place! Stopped here while heading back to Florida to get a quick snack and as usual referred to Yelp for guidance. Went with a country ham biscuit & a sweet Tea..yum! Real "southern country style ham" and the biscuit was perfect. Would have loved to tried some more down home goodness, but that was enough for now. Not good. It was a take out order and I tried to call it in before going there in order to cut down on the wait time. The phone rang and rang and no one would answer it. I did let the phone ring a long time to give them a chance to answer it but they never did. I went down there and ordered a fried chicken plate which comes with french fries, onion rings, and cole slaw. I'll skip the part about how long I waited for the food because they were busy. I get the food bring it home and the first piece of chicken was hard as a rock. I tried to eat the other pieces and they were all the same over fried and too hard to eat. Not impressed by this place at all. Looks pretty cool but overall it's run down and dirty. The staff isn't very nice. They all looked tired or like they're strung out. The food is disgusting in my opinion. The burgers are cheap and greasy. I don't think the cheese is real cheese and the fries are limp and tasteless. My daughter had a milk shake and that was ok according to her but my stomach turns at the thought of how nasty the machine that made it probably is.
