I'm the first to admit that I am a complete cynic when it comes to trusting auto mechanics. But I think I have found one I can trust. I do some DIY on my cars but this time I was unable to get a clue about my car's misfiring problem. On the recommendation of my Brother in Law I took it to Ban's. It was not an easy fix even for Ban's but in the end he found the tiny hole in my piston that was lowering the cylinder compression. I am confident I was charged a reasonable price, and probably even less given the difficulty of finding the problem. The worst Customer Service I got my front brakes done first and then my back brakes noticed my front brakes were squeaking. Still took it in stop squeaking for about three weeks now I feel like when I break. I have no brakes at all, so I took it in this morning with my receipt and he yelled at me told me that I bought the pads. I said I did not buy the pads you provided everything I paid $400 for the front brakes either fix my brakes or I want my money back he told me to get the hell out of his shop so now I have to get my lawyer involved. read more

Horrible! My insurance had my broken down car to Ban's. Biggest mistake ever! 1st it was $250 & 2 hrs. Then $1900 the next day, something worse wrong. The next day we're up to $2900! The repairs were too much. So I decided to take my money & put it towards a new car. They had taken out the engine. Ok. However when the tow truck brought him home his flatbed was flooded w/oil. They hadn't put the engine back! It was in the trunk of my car! Now even a junk car dealer will not buy it! The tow guy even told me he's towed many a car out of there because of their bad work. And they charged me $150 for storage. I paid it just to get my car out of there. I Do Not Recommend This Place. Word of warning. read more

After my truck failed NOx test on smog, I took it in to get the problem diagnosed at my local garage, three times they misdiagnosed the problem three times it failed smog, this took 2 weeks. I heard about Bans from a fiend so I took my truck to them, in 2 hours with no appointment he had changed the catalytic converter and corrected the timing for MUCH less then I was expecting. I brought my car here to after the radiator needed to be replaced. They gave me a good price and the next day I went to pick it up. The hood will no longer lock. I went in to speak to them about it and the guy starts screaming and yelling at me saying that I broke it. I never once raised my voice at him. He actually started walking towards me waving his hands in the air yelling that I broke the hood and not him. I have been coming here off on and on since 1993. They have been fair with prices and honest for as long as I can remember. I've never had a problem with them and have only used other mechanics due to availability or work they do not not do. (They usually let you knew ahead of time with the quote)they are fast and usually full of vehicles if you don't get your car there by 0830. They also are happy to fix anything they've missed or you're not satisfied with. (There is usually a young kid that speaks English for some that can't understand what the older guys with heavier accents are saying, FYI.) They said it would cost alot for one little part because it would take at least 2 hours in labor. After talking to my dad, I called them back 5 minutes later to tell them I did not want service, and they tried to tell me that they already fixed it!!! They tried to not give me my car back!!! I asked them how it could be fixed in such a short time, when they said that they didnt even have the part!!??? Took my gmc in for an intake manifold issue, after getting quoted from several mechanics I took the advice of several friends who recommended Bans and went in for a quote. He quoted me at least 200 dollars less than the other shops. I took in my car a couple days later and my car was taken in right away and completed in the time frame promised. The final price was even less than the initial quote which is always a plus. It has been a few weeks and my car is running great with no issues. I have to admit I was a little reluctant due to the appearance of the business but don't let that turn you away. I've been a loyal customer of Ban's Automotive since 1991. I always found them to be honest and trustworthy, as well as reasonably priced. Unfortunately, I will no longer be a customer. I took my car in because some gaskets blew and oil was leaking everywhere. First of all my quote was $510, which included motor mounts as well. When I went to pick up the car, the my final price was more than $110 over the quote. After my husband picked up the car, the check oil light came on within 3 miles from the shop. He looked at the dipstick, which had no oil marks, and added a quart.. He drove the car two miles to his destination and the check oil light came on again. When all was said and done, he had to add more than 4 quarts of oil to a vehicle that only takes 5.5 quarts. When I called to let the owner know, so that he could make sure that he discussed it withe his mechanics, he told me my car must be burning oil. Really??? Four quarts plus of oil in 8 miles and it's been fine since we added the 4 plus quarts a week ago. The owner was very defensive and would only say that they checked the oil and it was fine. I just had the car smog tested one week prior to the gaskets blowing. The car passed with all normal levels. In fact my husband has checked the oil 3 times after he finally had a proper oil level. Each time he's checked it, the oil level was full. read more

Took in my Prius with trouble code Poa93 Inverter coolant problem traced to defective water pump for hybrid system. Showed Ban's the diagnosis from the Toyota Service Center which told them it was the inverter pump . Two weeks later took the car back to Toyota Service Center as lights were back on. Toyota said that Ban's replaced the wrong water pump. Took it back to Ban's Auto Repair II and was lied to and then told there was nothing they could do for me as they walked away from me. Filed complaint with the California Department of Consumer Affairs. In September with the help of the Bureau of Automotive Repairs, a compromise was reached with Haung Tran of Ban's Automotive resulting in a partial refund for the repair in question. read more

I took my car in to get my front brakes done today (new pads and my roters were machined plus an oil change, under 2 bones with tax) . Dropped it off at 10am and my car was ready by 1pm. Love them! They tell you exactly what needs to be done and don't gouge you for money and they are quick. It looks a little shady and a bit of a language barrier but honest and reliable! I spent $1500 at two other shops and even though I told them what was wrong they didn't fix it AND made it worse and they had it for days costing me a rental. If you value customer service, I don't recommend going to this auto repair place. I took my truck there yesterday to have the a/c fan looked at since it had stopped blowing. The work was done the same day, but as I was driving home, I heard a rattling sound that I had never heard before. I returned to the shop today and let them listen while doing a trip around the block. The guy who rode with me agreed that there was a rattle, and we were able to pin point it to the driver side panel.....which they had taken off the day before to fix the a/c fan. I was told the boss had to look at it because he was the one who did the work. They called me later to come pick up my truck. As I started driving away, there was no more rattle! Fantastic. But then I noticed that the panel was now not put back the way it always had been....there was a very noticeable gap between it and the rest of the interior. So I u-turned and went back. I showed them the gap and two guys pushed and pulled on it for a bit, then went to get the boss. He came back and looked at it, pushed on it, then insisted he never touched the panel....that he had only removed the passenger side panel to fix the a/c fan. I explained that I had never had a problem with the interior paneling of my vehicle......he insisted that he had never touched it and started to get agitated - as if I had caused the problem. He raised his voice and kept pointing at the passenger panel, saying he only touched that one! I asked him if he could try to fix the gap because it hadn't been there when I brought the truck in. He got even more agitated and told me to leave. I literally couldn't believe what I was experiencing. The Vietnamese language barrier at this business can be a bit frustrating, but that's not a major complaint I have, nor would it prevent me from being a customer. But the complete lack of care for a customer's experience at their business will definitely keep me away. On a side note, I never expect an auto repair place to be all that clean, but this one might take the cake for dirty and disgusting. I would guess this place is a cock roach's heaven. I think it goes to show they don't care about their customers' experience......"Just keep it cheap" seems to be their motto. read more
