I wasn't even a customer at this point - just someone who had been in the store and chatted. A few weeks ago, I went in to buy some antistatic record sleeves. To my surprise, Pat had found an old vacuum record cleaner in someone's basement and set it aside for me - for free! It needed a little clean and a polish, but it's working perfectly now and I'm glad to have it, and amazed that Pat made such a gesture when I wasn't an established customer or friend. He didn't have to give me the machine; he could've given it to a buddy of his, or made a few bucks off of it himself. But it was a friendly, kind gesture and it impressed me. Pat clearly is a cool guy who enjoys shop talk, and wants to help people make the best of their home audio systems. The store is relaxed and pressure-free (as the other reviewer mentioned, Pat does have a big commercial espresso machine in the back, roasts his own beans, and makes a mean latte). If you're in the market for a new system or just a chatty hobbyist like I am, pay Pat (and his associate, Arthur) a visit. They look out for their customers, give helpful advice, carry amazing equipment, and are generally great, friendly guys who are passionate about music and the toys we buy to make it sound as good as possible. Before even doing a demo he mentioned that he normally wouldn't do a demo on first day or maybe it was within first hour. If I said something seemed warm or bright to me he would say I was wrong and go on this long explanation. Or if I said that in general tubes were warm which I like but he would argue that solid state can be warm. If said phono had warmer sound he said no it's more detailed and can get warm sound from CD quality in solid state which is true. Basically anything I said he would argue about it like he was offended. Never experienced this from any hifi store before. Very weird. I mentioned that I have a butler audio 5 channel tube amp for home theatre. He got surprisingly mad I had such a thing and said I should not use a tube amp for home theatre as you lose details. Which is true but I will bloody well use tubes in whatever application i want! I mentioned I use various sources like bluetooth and mac pc, apple music. He got mad again in that audiophile snobby way. I know tidal and roon are the better ones but come on, people can and will use whatever they want, even youtube! Im coming from experience with martin logan, buchardt, b&w, dynaudio, totem, harbeth. There are certain knowns that speakers have signature sound. To me b&w are bright and analytical, harbeth are neutral with great mid vocals, totem and dynaudio are similar with pronounced highs, logans have wide soundstage. So if I said a speaker was warm or bright he was like dont use those terms that's wrong. Come on, dont be a prick about it. It's a fast easy way to describe a sound. Of course can change with different components but speakers have a certain default sound. Just let a customer hear the equipment and accept how they feel about it. I just couldnt take it any more and stormed out. If there were cameras inside check Jan 16 around 2:30pm. Fron this experience, I would never buy from this store nor recommend to any friends. I'm so pissed. The guy was so argumentative I have no clue how anybody would buy from him. I thought he would take it easy so let him do his rants but he never let up so had to leave. Completely disappointed in customer service where it felt like the salesman was trying to make me ashamed of how I felt about components, what application I wanted to use them for, what sources I was using, what components I currently have. I think I only actually had a true demo for 15 sec, the rest of the time was his ranting. I left and went to another store which was a much more pleasant experience.

I'm not some rich hardcore audiophile who slaps down $10000 for adamantium speaker cables, which…read morethis store appears to cater to, but I scrimped and saved for some half decent stereo components to go with a Linn LP12 turntable that I managed to score. I was impressed by an asian sales dude named Frank, who was patient with my questions and cobbled a pretty decent system together. It's the best stereo system I've ever had and I'm quite pleased with it. He has continued to be friendly over the past couple of years when I've called to ask several numbskull questions. Some of the other salespeople seem a little aloof, but generally are friendly and helpful when questioned. Parking is a pain, but if you are looking for higher end gear, then this is a good place to go IMHO.

Man - the service is great here. I walk in because I have a question about upgrading but also wanted to check out the prebuilds. I talk to one of the staff members (His name is Lucky) and first thing he says "I remember you - you come to the Richmond location sometimes right?." The thing is I haven't been to the Richmond Location in probably more than a year but the man remembers me. All my computer equipment comes from Memory Express and him remembering me as a customer is a pretty cool perk. So I talk to Lucky about the upgrade I want to do and he's knowledgeable. I want the store to open up my gaming laptop and replace the ram and ssd. It's a pretty simple procedure and he knows the price right away. I wasn't sure what ram modules to buy either so he does a quick check faster than me doing the Google search myself. On top of the hardware cost, 50 bucks for the installation or 75 if I want the data transfered. I don't have to worry about losing a small screw or opening up the proprietary laptop my self its pretty good deal and I'm sold. I'll bring in my laptop later. I change the subject and talk to him about maybe buying a prebuild as and he's knowledgeable on the subject. I tell him that I'm worried that the technicians might be rushed and the cabling might be messy. He brings me to the prebuilds and opens up the side window and shows me that the cabling work they do is good and it is. It's good a sign that he didn't hesitate to open up the builds on the floor. He even says that if i wanted to do a custom water loop they can do that as well - pretty cool. Memory Express has knowledgeable staff and consistently good and FRIENDLY service from all locations.. Do not even think of going across the street to Canada Computers as the customer service there is atrocious (check out my review) and their return policy is garbage. They did a super job). This time I needed to have my system upgraded to Windows 11 and upgrade the hard drive. My computer was ready the next day and cost considerably less than I expected. Young Shintaro at the customer service desk was very helpful and made a number of recommendations to improve the upgrade. I'm an old lady and sometimes get 'attitude' at technical service desks but there was none of that here. Excellent customer service and highly recommended. Good job ME!
