The Lounge chain's excursion into Totterdown sees it housed in a former bank, and an impressive venue it makes too.

I was there during the week on lunchtime with friends, it's got this really lovely laid back cosy style, and was super friendly. I like the fact they have a massive blackboard wall, with lots of menu choices, from tapas to light bites, and have specials too. We headed to the back of the building which almost feels conservatory like. The whole menu looked mouthwatering, I opted for the Home Smoked Trout with cream cheese, scrambled egg and radish salad. All of the flavours really complemented each other, and the scrammed egg was the lightest and fluffiest I've ever tasted. It was an ample portion, and really set me up for the rest of the day. The other thing I should mention is price, you get high quality for a great price. My brunch was priced at £6.90. The perfect price for a lunch deal in my opinion. I shall most certainly be back, and would highly recommend this place.

I think most of their meat is supplied from Pipers Farm, where the animals are treated incredibly well, they are mostly grass-fed and the meat tastes incredible. As someone who doesn't buy a lot of meat anymore, and I hardly eat meat when I eat out because I can't be sure of where the meat has come from, this is a massive plus! Thank you to all the staff for creating a unique experience!

The other dish was a New York steak ciabatta (with amazing chips). We ordered wine and washed the tasty meal down before following it up with sticky toffee pudding and a decidedly evil peanut butter cheesecake (which comes in a glass). We like it here. It's grand and light, and the food is good and reasonably priced. What would we change? We would upgrade the condiments, so that the ketchup is better, and that authentic maple syrup is used on our pancakes rather than golden syrup, which is thick and doesn't taste of much. We would also have preferred our meals a bit hotter, as we felt like we had to wolf it down before it got cold. But these are small niggles that can be easily fixed, and probably will be at some point if the professionalism of the staff is anything to go by. They're friendly, not over-familiar, not too pushy, and they seem to want to go out of their way to make sure you enjoy Cosy Club. The wine list is short, but will hopefully improve in time. As of writing, it's only been open a couple of weeks. I look forward to being able to buy Champagne by the glass!

But today I just wanted coffee so I thought I'd give it a go. What an awesome little place to hang out! From the outside Playground looks more like a hipster arts and craft shop. But in a good way. It looks intriguing and different from a lot of coffee shops that try and be hipster - theres an irony to Playgrounds hint of hipsterness! Get inside and the first thing you see are two wooden swings (yes swings) with a really nice chill-out windowsill with cushions to sit on. I'm actually sat on the windowsill as a type this and it's a really nice place to be! Much like the outside, the decor inside Playground is different to many other coffee shops close by; refreshingly different. There's lots of colour, swings and a few board games. It feels much more relaxing than your average chip board heavy coffee shop. The coffee itself is really good. I went for the house flat white which was quite sweet and really moreish. It was delicious. All in all a really nice experience and refreshing to see someone breaking the mould. Accepts Bristol Pounds & text to pay

The crowd goes wild…read more Trust me when I tell you I don't give out an award like this willy-nilly and I am not alone in my opinion. From the first time it touches your lips it is just perfect. Perfect in temperature (not too hot, but stays warm) and flavour (slightly sweet without sugar). This is how it should be done. They do other things well, like their amazing bread that is their own recipe; it is not bought from any supermarket. All the cakes are made by local chefs as well and are delicious. Sourdough Cafe is hidden slightly, down at the far end of St Nick's market, under the glass arcade. I even love the way it looks, with a worn beach wood interior and furniture, you feel like you are sat in a beach hut. It really is so relaxing, even during the hustle and bustle of lunchtime down in St. Nicks. I love it, this place was such a hidden gem, a genuine find, an incredible treat...ok I'll stop...I was the first to review it. I can only hope you all choose not to believe me so I don't have to queue to get my daily coffee fix.

They have done a great job in the way they have set up and decorated the stall; it simply looks like a place that you must stop and at least have a look at the food they have on offer. Besides an outside seating area, you can sit inside too, where it feels like you're having some coffee and cake in someone's kitchen. They used to make a flapjack here that I swear was the king of all flapjacks. It was the most amazing one I'd ever tasted - with caramel and honey holding the oats together, and little yoghurt drops on the top of the flapjack, but sadly a week after I had it, I realised they had stopped making it. From time to time, I've been inconspicuously walking past, peeking if they have brought it back, but perhaps next time I should just stop and beg them to. It really was that good. If that was just the flapjack, I can imagine that everything else here is utterly yummy as well. Try it!

It's funny, then, to find this arty, alternative place here. In an old habourside warehouse, the place is high ceilinged and details include odd bits of exposed brick work. This design gives the bar equivalent of a loft conversion apartment. It would be optimistic to say you feel like you're in Berlin or some other bohemian European city, but you do feel a bit more refined that the masses brawling below. Good food that's ethically sourced and lively jazz in the background complete the picture. This is a bar to go and pretend you're an aspiring writer and maybe be a bit pretentious. I should add that the surrounding area is actually a delightful waterside location. You'll feel completely fine during the day and on week nights. Things just get a bit more chaotic on the weekend, as they do throughout the centre of Bristol at that time.

I did get to have a go on the new balcony, though, which offers some very nice views, and the Orchard Pig cider they've got on at the moment was far tastier than the food. For all its ambience and attractive furnishings, the Watershed's never going to compare to an actual pub, where you can let your hair down and actually enjoy yourself, without the fear that you might upset some pseudo-Nathan Barley who's tapping away on his laptop. In short, this is a place that's easy to like but difficult to love.
