First and foremost--be forewarned that this business does not enforce county COVID-19 mandates. Another patron was unmasked (mask below her nose) and she refused to fix her mask. The owner also refused to ask the patron to do so. The owner then proceeded to have me sit outside to wait for my nails to dry, while allowing the noncompliant patron to stay inside. The owner was confused about the CC County mask mandates, and claimed patrons were not required to wear a mask because they were vaccinated (she never checked anyone's vaccine records). This is a nail salon that is open to the public, not a restaurant, gym, or some other business that falls within the mask mandate exceptions. The owner is putting the health of her customers AND employees at risk. If indoor mask enforcement is important to you, avoid this business. As far as the services go, the technicians were friendly but rushed and sloppy (see picture). The services seemed overpriced for a basic mani/pedi + scrub addition ($55). The salon itself is very clean and everything seemed clean. They were on time for my appointment. Overall 2 stars given my bad experience over the masking enforcement and sloppy manicure. Well... I'm not quite sure what's going on. I've been sporadically going to bamboo spa for the past year (I'm not necessarily a regular but I do go in for special occasions) and the last two times I've gone have been pretty horrible. For the price you pay, I expect good quality gels; and the last time I was there I ended up going back because the gel bubbled up the next day with 50% of my mani just gone. I complained to the woman who did my nails immediately after and she assured that once I washed my hands the bubbles would be gone. When I came back, the owner was gracious enough to offer a $5 gift card for the double time spent getting my nails done. Now today's gel mani... I took my own gel (given the other was such bad quality), and take a look at the photos. Does this look like a $60 manicure? Bleeding edges, paint on my fingers, loose bits snagging on my clothes ... plus I got burned by the water with my pedi and when I complained the same woman who did my nails last time scolded me that she was tempering the water. How about tempering it before it's boiling hot and you tell me to insert my feet. The staff has really declined, and therefore quality has as well. Unfortunate. read more

Review #101 - 2017 After my most recent disappointing experience at Smiley's, I decided that it was time to start looking for a new place and I'm so glad that this place opened up nearby. I made an appointment for Friday, May 12th, at 1:30 PM. Being that it was the Friday before Mother's Day, I was pleasantly surprised that they weren't crowded like most places I've been to & I figured out why while I was sitting there for an hour getting my gel color change. Vee, the owner is very good at managing her appointment times. She does not make empty promises on time slots that she cannot deliver. She doesn't accept walk-ins if she knows her place is already busy, which I really appreciated. I honestly can't recall the name of the manicurist that did my nails, but I have to say that she did a really good job. She took her time to ensure that I was happy with the final outcome & insisted that if I didn't like anything, she would fix it for me. My nails came out really nicely. Vee waxed my eyebrows which she did a really nice job cleaning them, while keeping my original shape. I mentioned to her that I usually get them threaded, but was pressed on time so I just decided to get them waxed. She told me that waxing is better at getting to the roots, whereas threading sometimes rips the hair strand in half. So glad I found this place. I will definitely continue to come back as long as they continue to do a wonderful job & respect their customer's time. read more

I have to see whether the nail polish will chip but here are my observations. - spa chairs just vibrate but you don't get a roller that massages. - they moved me from the spa chair after the pedi to do my mani and I was so uncomfortable. - mediocre massage at best - overpriced - once I paid no one came to remove the foam between my toes nor help me put my flip flops. - oh and some were offered water some not, I asked for mine, not a big deal but at ~ 60 for a basic mani/pedi the little extras go a long way I went to Tina's before in the village side and I préfèr my overall experience there read more

They take their time with the scrub, paraffin wax and hot stones and massage during pedicures, and their manicures are always very even. Great color selection. I have been to this nail spa 3 times now and each time I go it seems apparent that the GM has her favorite customers or at least the customers she wants to impress. This last time I went, the GM offered tea to other patrons but not me, filed the hands of customers who were there just for pedicures as a favor but not for me. First time here and I had a pleasant experience. They play nice relaxing music and the staff are very nice. The pedicures are phenomenal. I came in on the whim to remove acrylic nails and to just start over with a mani and a spa pedi. Vicky did my spa lavender pedicure and it was amazing. V removed my acrylics and did my manicure and it was pretty relaxing. I'm giving this place a 3 vice a 5 due to a few reasons. 1. There is no bathroom. You have to walk outside around the corner to use the restroom. 2. They do not place any disposable liner pedicure bags. Unless you watch them clean the bowl the previous customer was in you do not know how sanitary your feet are. That's like stepping into a shower and not knowing who cleaned the tiles possibly catching cross contamination. 3. They didn't clean the chair the lady customer was in I had to tell Vicky to do so prior to me sitting. 4. The chair I was in did not fully work for a back massage and did not recline back. Sitting up straight while you are getting a pedicure can be pretty uncomfortable for an hour especially for someone who has a lumbar fusion as such as myself. 5. While removing my acrylics Vy had to cut them down short which is the norm, however, while cutting my right pinky nail she cut straight in the middle and not on the sides. By doing this cracked my nail right down the middle leaving me in some pain. It was so painful I didn't even want a gel manicure I just wanted a protein polish and call it a night. I'll stick to my normal nail salon even if I have to drive further out than usual. read more

I want to update my review since the spas reopening after Covid. I made appts for 3 of us to have pedis and once again was not let down. The spa is very clean and uses all covid safety practices. It was great to have such a wonderful treatment after the long hiatus and once again my feet are happy and toes look amazing. The prices are a tiny bit higher than other places but it is because they do professional work. I have had too many times walking out of other salons and feeling like it was rushed and the polish looks sloppy. I've been really happy with Bamboo Spa but my teen daughter has had two bad experiences. She went in with friends before prom and they were rude to them, specifically demanding tips (which I had sent with my daughter and her friends along with cash for the the payment). Today, she went in again to get a gel manicure and pedicure. They painted her toes the wrong color. When she let them know, they just painted over the previous polish with the right color (instead of removing and doing it over), so the fingers and toes are a different color, which was not what she asked for. Also, one of the toes has a rather obvious blemish. It's a shame. She paid the same $90 + tip that any adult would pay, yet was bullied into accepting subpar work. read more

OMG, what a treat. This was my first visit to Bamboo Spa. I live in Berkeley near the Caldicott Tunnel. Therefore, Orinda is only a 15 minute easy drive. The first thing you notice about the spa is how spotlessly clean the space is and airy. The door was wide open to the open, bringing the fresh air inside. The manicurists wore masks, as well as the customers. Each client was separated by one seat between the other. I decided to go for the hot stone pedicure. It was a real treat. I felt like I was floating away into bless. Which was much needed in these times. I also had waxing done and eyebrow tint. I felt like a new woman after leaving Bamboo Spa. Another benefit of the shop is the beautiful area, with Starbucks a few doors down from the spa, a tea place across the street, and a little further down the street is Peets Coffee and Tea. The square has many nice cafes and restaurants if lunch is in the plan after your nail treatment. If you've been wanting some pampering and at the same time, feeling Covid safe, don't hesitate to book an appointment at Bamboo Spa. It's best to make an appointment, rather than walk-in. read more

Here on a vacation visiting my daughter. She is a massage therapist with a practice in town. I came along and thought I would get a pedicure while I waited for here. I passed by this spa more than a half hour before they opened and looked in the windows to see how clean it was. It is very clean! There was a woman in side. She motioned me in and I asked if there were any openings. She said of course! Come on in. I replied that I could come back when she opens. No no come now, you will be our first client. The place is warm, welcoming and nicely decorated. They have a nice pedicure menu to choose from. The massage was wonderful, and my feet are grateful for the extra attention. Kelly did my pedicure. Quality of the work and service at Bamboo Spa has not been consistent to say the least. A somewhat decent manicure on my first visit, and a convenient location lured me in a few more times, but only to be left disappointed, again and again. I don't think I'll be coming back, and not because Bamboo Spa is overpriced for what it is, but just so I don't have to endure the utmost crudity of its owner/manager, who prominently displays only 2 types of behavior: fulsome niceness to clients who she perceives valuable and an impertinent arrogance to those she does not. Who makes the cut is not 100% clear, but the visual display of your net worth may have something to do with it.. I just wonder, Is it a really smart strategy to treat (even some) of your paying customers like you don't want them there? It's likely you'll get what you want at the end.. read more

Beautiful new salon in Theater Square! Located across from Coldwell Banker. I called ahead to make sure they had time for me. They validate garage parking. The menu is succinct and there are no hidden charges. Prices are fair and you get a lot for your money. The salon is clean and nicely decorated with fresh flowers. Good magazine options - more importantly, the nail color choices are wonderful. The owner buys the newest OPI colors. This has got to be one of the nicest nail salons I've seen in awhile. It's clean, it's organized, it's cohesive it's bright. The staff is friendly and will only speak in English. They are in uniforms. Did I mention it's cleanliness. They only use high end products. They do not do acrylics- wish they did. This would be my spot. I only come here for pedis and for my daughters nails. Sadly, I do acrylic- so I go somewhere else for that. It's on the higher end of prices but as a business owner myself I know the rent can't be cheap and neither are wages. So I get it and I don't knock them for it. They also only use high end products. Again, all comes at a cost. You get what you pay for. You want cheap- than those salons are a dime a dozen. Came here with my mom for mother-daughter manicures. It's a family-run business with this location being their third, so you know they're doing things right! It's a really clean nail salon that recently opened a few weeks ago. They offer water, tea, and wine and they also have chocolate available throughout the salon. They play music that helps create a relaxing atmosphere and on top of that, it never got super loud and chaotic like other nail salons (which was a nice surprise since it was a Saturday). The owner did our manicures and although she worked fast, I never felt like she was rushing to just get it done and get us out, which I appreciate. They have a wide selection of OPI regular nail polish as well as gels. FYI they don't do acrylic nails, but they do offer waxing and different levels of manicures/pedicures.
