This was our 2nd visit to Bamboo Bistro and were disappointed both times. Our first visit was for dinner - the sauces on the entrees were covered in a dark gravy - not sauce and had little taste. The 2nd visit was for lunch for Bento boxes as the reviews for those seemed good. Very disappointed in the quality and taste other than the hot and sour soup. The miso was OK but thin. The sushi was old and dry with no flavor - obviously sitting around waiting to be used. Dumplings were OK but cold. Teriyaki was grilled chicken chunks that were overcooked and hard with a mild thin sauce poured over it. The tempura was OK but not crispy. We were looking for a decent place to go for a Bento box and Bamboo Bistro is not it. Obvious they assemble meals there instead of cooking to order. Mediocre at best. read more

I'm always disappointed when I have to leave a negative review, but this one earned it. The staff was so sweet so this is an extra sad post for me. Our total was about $37 for pickup, and unfortunately the food wasn't even close to being worth that price. The coconut shrimp were the biggest letdown. They arrived soggy, bland, and lacked any real seasoning. What really confused me was that the coconut wasn't part of the shrimp--it came as a separate dipping sauce. I expected coconut shrimp to be a complete dish with the coconut incorporated into the coating, not something I had to assemble myself. It felt unfinished and odd. The vegetable lo mein was just okay. The noodles were cooked fine, but there were very few fresh vegetables mixed in, making it feel more like plain noodles than vegetable lo mein. For the price, I expected a much better balance of vegetables and flavor. Overall, nothing tasted fresh or memorable, and the meal didn't justify the cost. We left disappointed and, unfortunately, won't be back. read more

No no no The hot pot needs more flavor in the broth. Overall sizzling plate with veggies & tofu was the best; when restaurants venture out of their comfort zones then we end up with things that are not pleasant (fusion) but the sizzling plate was fine. I've been here in the Villages for 10 years, I have searched for an Indian Buffet. I finally found a great one. I do not go to Indian restaurants because I get the dishes all mixed up, plus i enjoy the variety of the buffet. The buffet had all of my favorite dishes. If I could, I would give them 2.5 stars. My dish was, Tofu and Vegetables ok, heavy sauce, not much flavor and it came with rice. My wife liked her chicken wraps and she had a huge bowl of soup. The soup was without much flavor to me, but my wife really liked it. Our friends loved their dishes, another tofu and vegetables and also an eggplant dish. The service was great though and that made up for a lot. If I come back, I would try the Thai dishes, the curry or Pad Thai and see if those have the flavor that I like. The owner was very nice and gave us each some home made sangria to try. That was very nice. Overall, it is a great menu for both me and vegetarian and my wife Gluten Free. So well done there. It's a "No" in my book. Went twice in a week due to friends wanting to go, both based on another acquaintance's referral. Both visits were lunchtime. Place was relatively empty so we were always seated promptly. I found the interior very dark and a stale smell. Right across from hostess stand was a room divider to mask staff's area but one saw the clutter of plates and personal items. Menu is several pages and there are sections for lunch specials. Unfortunately for me, on both of my visits I sent food back as it a) miso soup, had a very off putting taste and b) chicken tempura (bento box) was a flat pounded boneless skinless chicken patty dredged in breading (add tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese and you'd have chicken Parmesan). My wait staff were both very polite and attentive and on both visits saw that my alternate choice was handled quickly. Just had lunch at the Bamboo Bistro: The summer roll was one shrimp and one piece of basil and about a cup of vermicelli noodles. Ordered beef pho and the vegetables that came out for the soup were expired and basil had worm holes in it. The limes were also expired. The waitress was great and brought me new produce. The garlic green beans were excellent. The true star of the meal. We had to ask for chopsticks, chili sauce, siracha and hoisin - all which are standard at any pho house. I have visited here twice after being new to the area. My first experience was pretty good, we had good service from Kenny, and the food had great presentation. Upon our first visit, we ordered numerous sushi rolls, and all was well except for the sushi roll containing crab. It was extremely fishy, to the point as if it had gone bad. We didn't eat it. Second visit we got to-go. This is where things got worse. We ordered the village sushi roll, along with sweet & sour chicken. The sushi roll tasted fine but later that night resulted in diarrhea and vomiting, a clear food poisoning indicator. The sweet & sour chicken so far has not made me sick, but the chicken was awful. It was extremely thin, heavily breaded, and well over cooked. Imagine chewing on a piece of rubber, that is what it was like. So despite our first better experience, the second experience definitely sealed the deal on us not coming back. Not to mention that the sushi and chicken cost me $35, so I was really expecting much better quality for the price. read more

The only thing tthat wasn't perfect was the waiter Kenny. Yes he was relatively ok at his job but there was no warm & fuzzy as top notch wait people are. Originally we had Destiny a beautiful girl with personality. Other than Kenny's shortcomings which are many the food was awesome. The owner sorry I don't know her name was onsite & always spot on. My biggest regret I forgot to take my before pictures of our plates. Rest assured everything we had was spectacular. This restaurant will be on my hit list for return visits. As always, Apsara is & will always be my favorite but Apsara is up north in Providence, R. I. Bamboo Harden is now my southern #2 Asian restaurant. Kudos x 99. Another nice Asian place in the Villages. The outside is very deceptive and you would never gather the inside is as lovely as it is. It's one of the few places in the Villages I can get my beloved eggplant with black bean sauce so that alone makes me happy. They have good lunch specials and it's easy parking too and you can sit outside. It's interesting how the Asian places around the Villages are consistently more upscale with good service and quality food whereas other establishments are more hit and miss. read more
