Thai Basil Chicken with Fried Rice
    Beth Ann M.

Went here for the first time with friends the other day, about mid afternoon, so not too crowded, which was perfect. This is a family owned restaurant and the servers/owner are super nice and helpful. We were able to sit where ever we wanted. It's booths mostly. They came to our table right away with crunchy noodles and duck sauce and took our drink orders. They have a nice selection of choices in the menu. You can do individual meals - such as Sesame chicken. And that comes with rice and is a large portion (plenty to take home). They also have combo meals, which 3 of us did. The combos come with choice of soup, steamed rice (or fried rice $1, lo mein noodles, etc.) a fried spring roll and your entrée of choice. It was a generous portion of food and everything was delicious! The sesame chicken was perfectly tender. The Thai chicken was lightly spicy and the shrimp and veggies had big, tender shrimp. I loved the wonton soup - it came piping hot and really warmed me up. I'd definitely go here again and try take out. Sitting down to eat was a nice treat and the food came super fast and was hot and fresh.

Excellent sit down Chinese place with very tasty meals served on real China and real forks and spoons. We had the crab Rangoon so crunchy and tasty, the General Tao's chicken that was seasoned well and not too spicy with tangy sauce and fried rice, also the shrimp fried rice was a generous portions had a wonderful flavor. All fresh made to order. The service was fast and friendly very attentive. Clean restaurant and normal Chinese decor. Can't wait to go back and try mire if their delicious food.

My go-to Chinese place in the villages. Service is great, the food is great! The Thai chicken, and the beef and broccoli are my favourites!

Date night! Finally , my wish to try Thai Ruby is granted. We went in a Monday night around 430 pm…read moreand were seated in the front window . Yay! I Iove the decor and lighting in here. Lights are low, dark wood, dark blue seating.... Totally different than other Village Square restaurants I've been too. In my opinion, the quietness inside is just wonderful for a change. We were served by Jack. My husband and I both appreciated his quiet friendly grace. He served a rather high maintenance table behind us with such patience, it was amazing to hear . No we weren't eavesdropping, they were being ridiculous. Anyhoo, we both got the spicy shrimp pad Thai and the spicy level was perfect. Hot enough to make me lightly sputter but just once. . My husband said, I could go back there again while I had already planned on what I'd like to try next time.

After not eating here for quite some time, I thought I would give it another shot…read more Many of the appetizers are around $12, a Thai tea is $9 and Tom Kha Gai soup for two is $13.99. Tonight we ordered the Panang Curry with chicken for $18.00. The dinner entree comes with zucchini and red peppers. I explained that I can't eat peppers and politely asked if they could substitute broccoli or green beans. I was told they can't make any substitutions and could only provide extra zucchini. Why??? The soup was served warm, almost room temp, and the portion is small considering the size of the bowl. The curry was served with an extremely small portion of rice, about the size of an ice cream scoop. About halfway through the dinner, the server returned to check on us and I asked for more rice. When the bill arrived, I noticed a separate $4 charge for jasmine rice. At no point did the server mention there would be an extra charge. I could buy a whole bag of rice for that price! I brought it to the manager's attention and was told that it's considered a side dish and the price is listed on the menu. Unfortunately, we were not offered a menu after ordering and nobody verbally advised us that it would be an extra charge. Charging $4 for a small scoop of rice, without informing the customer beforehand, feels excessive and misleading. The food may be good, but between the high prices, refusal to accommodate a simple vegetable substitution and unexpected charges, the overall experience simply does not sit well with us. Their high prices, small portions, lack of flexibility and transparency has become frustrating enough that we will not be returning.

Finally, a Good Ethnic Restaurant -- With Some Caveats…read more A neighbor recently told me about what they considered the best restaurant they've eaten at in The Villages -- a Chinese restaurant. They were so impressed on their first visit that they brought another neighbor along the second time, someone who owns a fine‑dining restaurant and is essentially a Michelin‑level chef from Washington State. He loved his dish as well, which definitely raised my expectations. Today, my spouse, two friends, and I decided to give it a try. As someone Asian, I'm not easily impressed by restaurants claiming to serve "authentic" Asian cuisine. I look for specific flavors, presentation, and a level of authenticity that matches the culture they represent. When I walk in, I look at what people are eating and who's working in the kitchen and dining room. Our server greeted us with a very thick accent and struggled to understand our questions about the menu. We found ourselves repeating things several times, which made ordering a bit challenging. When I began placing my order, I told him my first dish -- Shrimp Mei Fun -- and before I could continue, he immediately turned to my spouse for his order. I had to stop him and let him know I wasn't finished. The food came out quickly, but during the wait, no one checked on us or offered drink refills. When one of our friends' dishes arrived, the server said something none of us understood, and she seemed frustrated that we didn't respond. Our friend eventually realized the dish was meant for her -- except it wasn't what she ordered. She asked for Kung Pao Chicken but received General Tso's. She decided to keep it, and fortunately, everyone else's orders were correct. Now, the food itself? Delicious. Truly. If I were rating only the dishes, this would be a solid 5‑star review. But service matters, and unfortunately, the service fell short in several ways -- communication issues, no follow‑ups, and an incorrect order. Because of that, the best I can give is 3 stars. I would return, but only for takeout -- and I'd double‑check the order before leaving. It had the potential to be a great spot to bring my Sunday golf group, but after today, I don't think they could handle a party of 16.

REVIEW SAKURA JAPANESE RESTAURANT Today, 31 December 2025,…read moremy wife and I decided to have lunch at the Sakura Japanese restaurant in Colony Plaza, The Villages, Florida. We arrived at 1400 and there was a large number of people eating lunch, but seating remained available and our waiter soon appeared. We ordered a CocaCola and Green Tea while we perused the menu. My wife decided on the Tempura Bento box with pork katsu, while I chose the lunch combination of sushi and sashimi with salad and soup. We were both delighted! I found the sushi/sashimi combination to be delicious; more than I could comfortably eat after the salad with carrot-ginger dressing and clear soup. I took a taste of her pork katsu and found it surprisingly moist (much more moist and appealing than other Sakura restaurants here in The Villages). I was pleased that my tea was refilled on request. (One interesting aside: My sashimi plate was decorated by a variety of fresh spice leaves and a mysterious nest of what appeared to be shredded daikon radish with a green glow emanating from within. The green glow turned out to be a small battery powered green LED for ambiance!) All in all, an appealing performance by this Sakura at Colony Plaza; we shall return.
