For being a campus cafe, this is honestly better than anything I could have hoped for. Decent selection, students passing by. Take me on a study date here ;)

    Yay! Iced latte!

My favorite balzac's location, hands down. Why? Location, location, location. It has a patio during good weather, spacious, lots of reasonable amount of outlets to charge your laptop, phone etc. Service is prompt, decent. I usually come here in the afternoon and I find this place is a hit or miss in terms of traffic. What I recommend is to charge your laptop prior so it's full battery, in case you visit and it's an absolute full house. I usually order just regular coffee like balzac's blend. I don't really order anything specific. Call me a boring coffee girl. Although, a friend once recommended me the cafe nordique (sp?) and this one is seasonal but sooo tasty! I can't remember what was inside...I do believe there was cardamom, honey? Feel free to autocorrect me, but all I know most definitely about this specific coffee is that it's served winter time, hence seasonal. Can't go wrong with Balzac's, they are a decent cafe! Highly recommend if you are in the Yonge and Dundas square area!

Parisian Mist in the signature Balzac's cup. Love in a cup!

Adorable, romantic décore (think: what France and French cafés look like in the movies), amazing hot (and cold) drinks, and a cozy studious atmosphere makes this one of my favorite coffee hotspots in the city! Service: Impeccable. There's a younger guy who makes my Parisian Mist, and he makes it to perfection. The staff here are knowledgeable about their offerings, surprisingly not pretentious considering the hipster Ryerson campus Balzac's is housed in, and also friendly and enthusiastic. They know their stuff here, and it shows! Quality ingredients and beans that are sourced locally and which the staff are happy to tell you about. Drinks: Amazing. I'm not a huge coffee drinker but my boyfriend is, and he adores Balzac's. My personal favorite is the Parisian Mist, which is Balzac's spin on the London Fog (and probably inspired by the French author himself, Honoré de Balzac.). The Parisian Mist contains milk (I get mine with soy milk which they didn't charge extra for,) and is infused with their Peterborough tea that has notes of floral, along with a bit of vanilla syrup. It's hot, light, frothy, and sweet but not too sweet and tastes like love on a rainy day in France. Yum. 110% recommend. Atmosphere: It gets a little crowded because of it's location on Ryerson campus, but Is perfect for a study session, a catch up with friends, or a date. The decoration and smaller tables for two, as well as communal tables in the centre make it ideal to chat or get down to business, and give Balzac's a very romantic, Euro feel. J'adore! Overall: Go here. Get a Parisian mist. Come on a rainy day. Write a novel. Get inspired. Just try it out :) I love it!

I really love the feel of this place.. Even better then the last time, apparently. It's very spacious and comfortable and I love the large communal tables. Everything is clean and well laid out. There are many coffee options and food options as well. Today's was popping in for a quick jolt of caffeine and so o ordered the noisette... Basically a flat white. It is nice and hot and just enough coffee and milk. Recommend and would return.

Solid matcha, beautiful latte art, delicious croissant sandwiches…read more Came just before 9am on a Saturday and managed to order before a morning crowd started to form. We got a matcha latte with oat milk, cappuccino, and the breakfast sandwich w smoked salmon (forgot the name). Matcha latte was great, I loved that they clarified whether I wanted sweetened or unsweetened. Sometimes cafes serve them sweetened without me realizing. It's not super crazy high quality but it's definitely better than most cafes. I only had a sip of the cappuccino but I could tell my mom didn't love it. It's just on the fruitier side so it tasted more sour and not creamy/smooth (which is what my mom prefers). Depends on your preference. She really liked the latte art though and didn't want to ruin it by drinking it! The sandwich was big and delicious. There's a hint of dill flavor which paired well with the salmon. I could tell my mom liked it. The cafe itself has a few tables and high top counter seating, as well as seating outside. There's two restrooms in the back. They seem to bake everything in house and it smelled wonderful as they brought stuff out the oven. Loved the all female staff!

This coffee shop is nestled semi-behind a pillar beside the lobby of the Intercontinental hotel Toronto, which adds to its charm for me, in a way. Love finding a good "hole in the wall" :) I love the bright, feminine, beachy decor and coral pink & aqua blue accents. It's not too tropical, but it definitely transports you outside of Canada. Coupled with Aussie staples like vegemite and Noosa magazines (takes me straight back there!), as well as gorgeous ceramic coffee mugs for purchase, the vibes are great here. While it is a smaller shop, there is enough seating for 3 tables, and it's very cozy. Had to go for a flat white, given the Aussie homage here. This one got my approval (and I'm picky about my flat whites) - they used a lighter, more balanced espresso roast, paired with just the right amount of creamy frothed milk. They also had a banana bread latte that my companion really enjoyed too! Looking forward to my next visit!

It's nice that they are open early-ish at 7am, though even a little bit earlier might be nice. The coffee is alright. The heart they draw for warm lattes is cute. Never tried an Aussie coffee brand before -- heard that they have high coffee standards there, but tbh couldn't really tell a difference. Maybe I'm just not a fan of fruity/sour beans. Can't say I get the hype, and quite overpriced too at $7-8+ for coffees. Guess it's the location and rent. It's better than Starbucks, but I don't think that is saying much. I do like that they have vegemite pastry, which you won't see at other places! Nice Australian touch.
