We have not been to the BSO in quite some time, and we were completely taken aback at the many changes that have taken place. We were surprised to see that Casual Friday has come to the BSO. Have we lost all sense of decorum? People were dressed in what looked like their pj's, sweatpants, hoodies, tennis shoes, and the like. In addition, we were appalled to see that snacks and drinks can now be taken into the concert hall. What a shame! There was a short performance in the main lobby by OrchKids prior to the main performance. Orchkids was started while Marin Alsop was the conductor in residence for the BSO. Their performance was brilliant. We had tickets in Box B on the Terrace Level, which we do not recommend to anyone. I had to lean over the rail to only see half of the stage. (We were so close to the lights!) It was nice to have Marin Alsop return to conduct. She received a rousing welcome from the audience. There were two pieces played - Carlos Simon "Amen" and Charles Ives "Symphony No. 2" before the intermission. What we really came for was to see Yuchan Lim play the Sergei Rachmaninoff "Piano Concerto No 3 in C Minor. op 18." Mr. Lim brought the house down. He is the youngest person ever to win gold at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition at the age of 18. Mr. Lim had several curtain calls and played one encore. It was an incredible performance by Mr. Lim, Marin Alsop, and the BSO orchestra.

A wonderful night out with my daughter. I picked up our tickets from will call, a very easy process. The parking was a little tricky. Parking was available across the street, but they only took cash. You can pay for parking at the last two windows of will call but they have a cut off time (I believe 30 minutes before start time). That parking is behind the Symphony hall (a little walk). Finding our seats was very simple...floor seating and 4 upper levels as well. The facility was very nice and a great place for family or night out with friends. Security is present and they do check bags before allowing you to enter. Overall, a great night and I look forward to coming again.

Nothing like classical music to soothe the soul. It was a delight to see the BSO under the direction of Maestra Marin Alsop on the first night of the BSO's 2011-2012 season. Maestra Alsop was wonderful to watch - graceful, delicate and energetic. It was nice to watch a director who the orchestra responds to and isn't the only star of the show. The opening concert featured Mahler's Resurrection. It was an impressive concert of instruments, the Baltimore Choral Arts Society and featured opera soloists. I love the sound in the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. The acoustics are designed to provide a fantastic experience from each seat. The seats and legroom are very comfortable, even for a longer concert since it is a modern symphony hall versus a traditional theater. If you so happen to go unwillingly or you don't have a chance for pre-theater dinner and drinks, you can grab a drink or light snack in the lobby before the performance or during intermission.

The Meyerhoff is simply beautiful. I came this past weekend for the Mozart's Great Mass and had a great time. The acoustics were great as well. Our seats were in the Terrace Center, which were pretty high up, but we could still hear and see the concert perfectly. The staff members were very friendly and accommodating. They were quick to notice my confused looks and helped guide us in the right direction of our seats. Also, during the concert, there was a baby that kept making noise (why you would bring a baby to a symphony is beyond me). After many obvious head turns, a staff member politely asked the parent and baby to leave.

This 1 (wo)man play was highly entertaining and inspiring. It's a story of self-discovery at a time when racial tension & ignorance were at an all time high. They have a professional cadre of actors who perform on a regular basis throughout the season. Additionally, community access & engagement are also cornerstones of this theatre. Each play has "pay what you choose" tickets available so finances won't be a problem. Sad, I'm really late to the party. However, Go! Check out a play, take a class, become a sponsor, and donate!!! It's about teenage angst, and about aging, too, "akimbo" referring somewhat to an awkward posture. It's not easy to explain the story without giving a lot away. It's funny and also personal. This performance was quite good, by a national troupe on a nation-wide tour. The staging is casual-looking, the acting perfectly real, the dance and singing quite good. We came in large part for the wonderful music: a variety of jazz, folk, and rock, plus more, in a cabaret style. The Hippodrome was easy to drive to on a weekday evening, coming as we did a few blocks east of MLK on Baltimore Ave, or you could drive west from Light Street on Fayette. We love the classic vertical sign and broadway-like marquee, especially when it's glowing at night! The attached garage was super convenient, with elevators direct to the theater lobby, but note: cash isn't accepted for parking. The inside 1914 theater-space is gorgeous! Ornate walls and ceiling, and plush seats. Our seats were pretty comfortable with enough legroom. The Hippodrome presents broadway shows performed by national companies, right here in a lovely theater. In fact, we've seen three so far this year! Who needs New York :-)

GLOWS: The bathroom line is extremely long during intermission. I do feel like it was attempted to solve with making the restrooms unisex, but most ladies still gathered to use the bathroom labeled "women."

We've also been able to attend their David Lynch celebration Wonderful and Strange: A David Lynch Appreciation Festival which was one of the most interesting and lovingly crafted events related to Lynch or any director that I have ever experienced. Bottle Episodes was another great monthly event they ran which featured their awesome group of performers acting out television shows, I only hope one day they'll return as seeing shows like Unsolved Mysteries and GI Joe get acted out this way was extremely fun. The theater isn't huge but does have a clean bathroom and excellent setup for visual effects via projection. The theater is beautiful - very comfortable and intimate - not a bad seat in the house. They have a couple of bars and some seating areas, which made for an enjoyable intermission. My only (very small) complaint about the theater is that it was hard to find the bathrooms, and we waited a while, because the one women's room we found was a single stall bathroom. I think there was a larger women's room somewhere, but we didn't find it! The play was interesting - I'd never seen a theater adaptation of a Jane Austen novel, and the adaptation was interesting and some of the actors were really great. We had a great time. I was surprised to see and learn that not all of the Company's performances are of Shakespeare - later this season, they have August Wilson's Fences (part of the Baltimore August Wilson Celebration), Shakespeare's The Tempest, A Christmas Carol, and Shakespeare's The Tale of Cymbeline (performed outdoors in Ellicott City). I'll happily return for another performance!
