What a lovely performance theatre, with such a lovely and helpful staff. I got the chance to see Santa Claus is Comin to town in January 2026. My first play of the year and my first time visiting Baltimore Center Stage. It certainly won't be my last. I'm not sure if there's a parking lot of this space, but plenty of street parking with no issues on a Saturday afternoon. clean bathrooms, nice mocktails and coffee at the concession stand. This was my first time at Center Stage, and it was a great experience from start to finish. I bought my tickets online but was called a few days before the show by the box office about an upgrade to my seat. Customer service was wonderful from the box office, to the concessions, to the ushers. I was also easily able to find parking on the street a short walk away. Purchased tickets to see Trinity at Baltimore Center Stage. The ticket purchasing process online was very user friendly. There is an affordable parking garage across the street and the area is well lit at night. As soon as you walk in there are staff there to direct you to where you need to go. We took the elevator to the top floor and was greeted as soon as we got off the elevator. They had drinks and light snacks for sale. The seating was comfy and intimate. The space is so quaint that every seat is a good seat. The play itself was amazing and the location made it that much more enjoyable. read more

This is my first time ever hearing about this theatre. I was told about the play "Akeelah and the Bee " from a good girlfriend so I decided to plan a mommy and me date for us to check out the play. Tickets were reasonable and easy to purchase. I was able to sign up for the newsletter. The theatre has great seats throughout. It was a packed house and all the actors from Baltimore School of the Arts did a phenomenal job. Street parking available. Will definitely plan to visit again. read more

I love Centerstage! I have been coming here for years for various events--- I even participated in their after school program for the arts when I was in high school. The theatre has so many different layers to it, you might not realize that there are many smaller theaters inside. They always put on great productions, and the collaborations they do with other smaller acting troupes have been great in the past, especially Dreamgirls with Art Centric. I'll be back soon enough to see what they have in store for the new season. read more

I attended my first play at Baltimore Center Stage a couple of weeks ago, for a performance of "Everything That Never Happened" (a play reimagining the characters of Shylock and Jessica from Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice"). Around since 1963, Baltimore Center Stage puts on some really interesting productions - creative plays, lesser known plays, modern plays, etc. The theater is really stunning as well, with great visibility of the stage from any seats. I already have tickets to see another production in May. I'm excited to return to Baltimore City Stage in May and in the future. I'm definitely going to keep my eyes out for exciting plays and productions. read more

Really cool theater I haven't been to since I was a kid! It's a small theater and stage so every seat is pretty close which makes it a bit more intimate. There are 2 levels. We came about 30 min before our show time and easily parked on the street out front, it is free after 6pm. There is also a garage caddy corner which a lot of other folks parked at. Came here to see standup show but they also have lots of creative plays throughout the year. They had a lot of alcohol, mocktails, sodas, and other drinks for purchase. They had a few snacks for sale as well. It's a nice large lobby with plenty of space to hang before your show. Overall I was pretty impressed with this theater and am definitely going to check out their calendar for the rest of the year!! read more

The black nativity was absolutely amazing. It reminded me of my childhood they touched on so many different songs from the Baptist Church and COGIC era and then they added their own flavor on it while still honoring the message of the song. you get to see the progression of the story explained in such a unique way If Vance Allen was alive today, he would have been proud. "Something About the Name Jesus." They tore it up. The gentleman singing the lead with the locks I have no words. ASTOUNDING!! We were getting ready to shout in there. The anointing was off the charts. It was an absolute display of excellence. No matter what your spiritual preferences, you have to honor the birth of Jesus and they did not disrespect it. It was just amazing. You must go. It's a must see!! BRAVO read more

This seat usher needs to slow down and show some grace. Please. Never been to this venue before, so we arrived on time, excited to see Mike Birbiglia after two months of looking forward to it--especially since this was our first real night out after six weeks of wife's recovery from cancer surgery. As we entered the main hall, we showed our tickets to the first usher, who began pointing us in the right direction. Then, out of nowhere, a second usher swooped in, seemingly trying to seat multiple couples at once. In the process, she put us in the wrong seats. Worse, the way she spoke to the first usher made it seem like she was trying to make him look incompetent. I felt bad for the guy--he had it right until she steamrolled in. Five minutes later, another couple arrived, looking confused. That same usher was called over, checked our tickets, and, without a hint of grace, announced that we were in the wrong seats. No acknowledgment that she was the one who put us there. Instead, she had us stand in front of a full crowd while she dramatically pointed across the room to our actual seats--the same ones the first usher had originally tried to send us to. At that moment, I should have said, "Oh, we're in the wrong seats? I'm sorry, one of the ushers (ahem, you) sat us here." But instead, I bit my tongue as and followed along as she huffed and sped us across the room, with my wife (the one recovering from the Dec surgery) struggling to keep up. Look, mistakes happen. But when you're the one who made it, at least own it with some grace. We didn't pay $400 to be rushed around like we were on a wrecking ball ride. Next time, we'll just seat ourselves--it'd be less hassle. If the issue is there weren't enough ushers, then the venue should fix that. But again, I'll remind that that 1st usher was actually sending us in the right direction before he was interrupted. Otherwise, the show and venue were fantastic. The front-of-house staff, greeters, door ushers, and even that first usher (who got cut off for doing his job correctly) were great. I actually feel bad for that guy if this is what he deals with. 3 stars--purely for the venue, show and everyone except that seating experience. Minus 2, not so much for the seating mix-up itself (things happen), but for the approach in fixing it. It just left that "something is off" feeling. read more

I went to see plays at Center Stage a couple of times before I became a Yelper, and thus had not left a review. I attended Tiny Beautiful Things last night and highly enjoyed it, but that doesn't reflect the venue really. Center Stage is quite lovely inside and out and much larger than I knew. Last night, the play I saw was on the 4th floor - I didn't know they had theaters that high up in the building. Heck, I didn't know they had more than one theater! Center Stage is super clean all over, which is great! My only real complaint is I found the seat uncomfortable after about 60 minutes, and my 90 minute show didn't have an intermission. I'll keep needing an intermission in mind for the next play, lol. read more

My very first visit to Baltimore Center Stage, as an adult, was to see Agnes of God. Yes, that long ago. I have visited many times over the years and enjoyed each time. For this most recent visit to see Canton Waterfront I cannot say anything negative about the show, the performers - terrific, and staff - lovely. Although 90 minutes without a break surely tests my patience. I think because of the current political environment that has impacted my non-profit organization, and, sadly, living the impact daily, I was sad, on my evening out, to hear more political inferences. Clearly that is a "me" problem, not a problem with the play. The play's theme was a learning experience for me and I did enjoy that aspect. I recommend that others attend but be aware. read more

Popped in to see Dreamgirls (12/18 @ 7PM) and sang my heart out the ENTIRE TIME!! (Curtis was supposed to love me!!) Needed your vaccine card or negative PCR test 72 hours prior to showtime and had to keep your mask on the entire time, due to COVID. Great show! Dreamgirls was excellent. Staff were reminded patrons to keep their masks up. Cocktails were very well made. Bummed that covid still prevents patrons from enjoying them in the theater during the show. The facility was nice and there not appear to be a bad seat in the house. I had a chance to visit this theater after being invited to see the play "Jazz" based on the Toni Morrison book. The building itself and the reception area are very modern with an industrial decor. Lots of chic seating areas and a bar serving cocktails, beer and water for pre show mingling. There is also a restaurant on the upper level if you want a bite to eat along with more lounge like seating. A grand-ish staircase leads to the actual theater which in contrast to the lobby area was one of the most antique atmospheres I have ever been in. We were seated in one of those little balcony areas that only have two seats. The kind I always envied at other plays but honestly there wasn't a bad seat in the house because the play was semi in the round. From were we sat I felt I could almost reach out and.n.h touch the actors. And the ticket price was awesomely affordable. The challenge was finding a place to park. This area of Baltimore is both residential and commercial. You may want to research garages in the area. We got lucky and found on street parking but do your diligence and read the signs. read more

I love Center Stage! Every show I have gone to this year just gets better and better! As new arrivals to Baltimore, we found their "young patron" deal and purchased a go-pass for the season. What a deal!! These shows are wonderful and you get the whole season for $60 if you are under 40 years old. We have only gone to shows on week nights, most are crowded but clearly not sold out - a great showing for Tuesday or Wednesday nights. Every seat has been great, the shows take place in different theaters, but the layouts seem to always allow for all seats to be great seats! We've only tried the restaurant once - which was enjoyable. For the bar, if you purchase a souvenir cup (wine or coffee mug) you receive a discount when you bring it back (same day or in the future). Another great perk is that if you are a member there are discounts on the beverages / merchandise. I am sure we'll be buying season passes every year! What a gem! read more

My friend and I came here to see the final night of the play "Lookingglass Alice," at 7:30 pm on New Year's Eve. To our surprise, there was quite the crowd of people, with very few vacant seats. The play was really engaging, with top-notch actors, excellent stage movements and use of space, and stunning creative direction, all with the whimsy and adoration of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. A lovely homage. I had visited a year earlier to see "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" when renovations were still ongoing and the theater was at the time visually unpleasant. Having returned a full year later, and what looks to be after a multimillion-dollar renovation, what they've done with the space of the theater is phenomenal---the art, the decor, the carpeting, the walls, the windows, the lighting, the bar area, and the main counter, all squeaky clean, modern, and visually attractive. It's truly a masterpiece. The guest services attendants are quick, efficient, and properly trained. The ushers are all super-friendly and helpful. Everything ran smoothly, although the show started about 10 minutes late. This was my old neck of the woods when I lived in Baltimore, and normally street parking is nonexistent. However, there were plenty of spots very close to the theater and surprisingly free, but it was after normal business hours and on New Year's Eve. I will definitely return to Center Stage for another performance! Very tastefully done and the hard work and pride clearly shows in the finished product. Love, love, love! read more

Attended a terrific show called "A Wonder in My Soul." What a fabulous performance and a compelling, poignant story! The actors were outstanding. And the venue is marvelous. Always a good time! Parking is convenient, drinks to purchase and a great live crowd is all that's needed when you see a show here. We saw SOUL the Stax Musical. Can we say AHMAZINNNNGGGG!!!!! Such an amazing cast and storyline about many of the music greats from the past. So good! The songs, the acting, the crowd, just a great evening! I love the interaction of the folks in the lobby before the show to get us exciting about what's to come. This theater and the staff that support the success of the arts...I just live for it. Was here for the penultimate weekend of "Fun Home." I was super impressed by how well the renovation worked out--the theatre is stunning and the seats comfortable, even while providing adequate leg room (not a given these days). The staff are efficient and great at crowd control (the large elevator helps), and audio quality inside the theatre was spot on. If the cast of "Fun Home" are any indication, Center Stage has done a great job building relationships with local talent--and they are certainly really talented. A new artistic director, Stephanie Ybarra, just joined the team, and I know I'm not the only one who is eager to see what she programs for her first full season in 19/20. My only note is that buying tickets online wasn't entirely user friendly--I had a discount code but didn't see the window to apply it (my bad) and ended up paying full price. Not my first choice, but happy to at least support some quality work by a neighbor. Center Stage is definitely on my radar! read more

I've had the pleasure of seeing every show this season thus far. Everything has been wonderful. The artistry and diversity in each shows offering is phenomenal! The theater is small but it is not lacking in any way. The newly renovated space is beautiful, inspiring and thought-provoking. I cannot gush enough. The last show, Twisted Melodies, is as rousing as it is dark. The subject matter, mental health, was handled with such style and grace that it moved people of all ages and backgrounds; It opened up the conversation on a topic that most people dread talking about. I found myself reflecting with strangers about the intricacies and delicacies of mental health, particularly related to "genius" in music. I will absolutely be buying season passes next year and you should too! read more

Not only that but if you are under 35, you can get a Go Pass which gives you access to all shows during the season at a low, low price!!! Not only that but if you want to bring a friend, their ticket is only $20.00 and they make sure you're seated together! Another option is to get a Go Pass with your friend and you can coordinate seating and show times together! Such a great deal! I have been a Go Pass member for two years and now that I have aged out, I have already invested in the 2015-2016 season to see what's in store! Our fried treated us to an evening at Center Stage. We attended a Play Lab and heard "Protect The Beautiful Place". What an interesting concept to have an audience sit in on what is really a rehearsal to iron out the kinks in the play. They told a riveting story - each of the performer's voices was captivating. They brought you into the story. Prior to the show, they hold a complimentary Toast Bar - a variety of breads that you can toast and add various toppings. We really enjoyed the evening. read more

If you are perfectly at peace with the dust-to-dust concept -- you know, the reality that all of us, except maybe Lenin and Kim Jong Il, are going to disintegrate anyway after we die, so who cares how? -- then the sight of a few old bones being pulverized by mallets won't bother you. Otherwise, you may feel just a wee bit twitchy during the second half of Martin McDonagh's "A Skull in Connemara," a dark-as-night comedy enjoying a decidedly vivid production at Center Stage. You may want to avoid a front row seat, too. Bone particles (or a realistic semblance thereof) fly as forcefully as insults and insinuations in this play. It's set in an Irish town where space in the church yard cemetery is at such a premium that those who have rested in peace for seven years are disinterred to make way for fresh customers. OK, so. That sure sounds extreme, but not in Connemara. No one even gives this practice much thought until Mick Dowd, the man in charge of the skeletal business, faces the prospect of uncovering his own wife. You see, her death never was satisfactorily explained for some people in town, so reopening her grave takes on a whole new level of interest. Things get pretty messy, in physical and emotional terms, before the digging (also in physical and emotional terms) is done. Oddly enough, things get awfully funny, too. Recently saw the play adaptation of Toni Morrison's novel Jazz. It was a wonderful experience. It's as if the audience is part of the production since the stage is within an arm's distance. The actors were phenomenal. They really made me feel like their characters were actually real, not fictional. There were some stage props (not an abundance but just enough) and other special effects on the screen behind the stage (for example, there was a background of the woods or the city during a particular setting). The staff were awesome and helpful. They've recently remodeled the entire building, and it looks amazing and welcoming. Lots of areas to lounge and have a chat before the show. If you bought tickets to a play at Centerstage, then you are bound to be delighted. I've been there a number of times seeing a variety of performances ranging from classics like Oscar Wilde to modern plays like adaptation to David Sedaris' "Santaland Diaries." Also, they have shows written by local Baltimoreans. Quite eclectic. The performances are quite good. Can't complain too much about that. Also, the space is nice: multiple theatres with areas for resting, dining, etc. I heard that subscription to Centerstage is quite fairly priced. For someone who is new to the area and wants to catch a play, I'd definitely suggest Centerstage as one of the first theatres to check out. read more
